Thomas L. Nolan

Thomas L. Nolan, 63, of Harmony died Thursday at his home.

Born May 26, 1939, in Harmony, he was the son of Francis and Ruth Peffer Nolan.

Mr. Nolan was a member of Grace Church of Harmony, where he attended the Senior Saints. He also was a member of Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie S. Nolan of Harmony and Dana L. Shelton of Warminster, Bucks County; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Thomas Nolan, who died Feb. 6, 2002; and a daughter.

NOLAN - Friends of Thomas L. Nolan, who died Thursday, May 8, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Peter Everett, his church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Grace Church Cemetery , Harmony.

Memorial donations may be made to the Grace Church Senior Saints, P.O. Box 275, Main and Mercer streets, Harmony, PA 16037; or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 810 River Ave., Suite 100, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Arlene A. Natili

Arlene A. Natili, 88, of Butler died Thursday at Concordia Care in Cabot after a short illness.

Born June 9, 1914, in Butler, she was a daughter of John and Loretta Schnur Steighner.

She was a homemaker and mother. Prior to her marriage, she had worked at Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Natili was a lifetime member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and was a former member of the women’s council of the church. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.

Her husband, Raymond L. Natili Sr., former Butler restaurateur, whom she married Sept. 1, 1938, died June 22, 1997.

Surviving are six sons, Raymond L. Natili Jr. and his wife, Charlotte, of Washington, Pa., Richard P. Natili and his wife, Marilyn, of Murrysville, Robert J. Natili and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Butler, John A. Natili and his wife, Darlene, of Lexington, S.C., George W. Natili and his wife, Nancy, of Slippery Rock and James D. Natili of Dulith, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Nancy A. Natili) Vavro and Mary A. Natili, both of Butler; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by three sisters, Sister Joan Loretta, O.S.B. of Elizabeth, N.J., Mary Sheffield of Santa Monica, Calif., and Katherine Fillhart of Butler; a brother, John C. Steighner and his wife, Sheila, of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

NATILI - Friends of Arlene A. Natili, who died, Thursday, May 8, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St. The Rev. Jack Nanz will officiate. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

The Women’s Council of St. Peter Parish will recite the rosary at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Wayne E. Karnes

Wayne E. Karnes, 90, of Chicora, died at 4:40 p.m. Friday at the Chicora Medical Center.

Born Aug. 12, 1912, in Knox, he was a son of Clark and Mary Webster Karnes.

A steamfitter and master plumber by trade, Mr. Karnes was the owner-operator of Butler Plumbing and Heating, and L&K Plumbing and Heating companies.

He also owned and operated, with his wife, the Karnes Kennel in Summit Township. Mr. Karnes raised and showed Belgian sheepdogs. He was a lifetime member of the Butler Kennel Club.

Mr. Karnes was also a member of the Butler Elks and enjoyed golfing, bowling and woodworking.

He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth “Joy” Hoffman of Butler; a son, Larry D. Karnes of Connoquenessing; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Owen (Alma) Anderson of Butler; two half sisters, Maxine Wray of St. Petersburg and Delores Rice of Florida; and a half brother, Burdette Karnes of Emlenton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve “Jean” E. Karnes, who died April 5, 2003; a daughter; an infant daughter; two brothers; a half sister; and a half brother.

KARNES - Friends of Wayne E. Karnes, who died Friday, May 9, 2003, will be received from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ralph Link officiating. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park.

Stanley W. Evans Jr.

Stanley W. Evans Jr., 75, of 102 Artlee Ave., Butler, died Thursday evening at his home after an illness.

Born in Ellwood City on Oct. 2, 1927, he was the son of Stanley W. Sr. and Florence E. Davies Evans.

Mr. Evans served in the Navy during World War II.

He was an electronics salesman for General Instruments Co. for more than 25 years, retiring in 1992.

Mr. Evans was a member of the Christ Community Methodist Church on Duffy Road. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and was a member of the Ellwood City Lodge 599 F&AM, the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Valley of New Castle and the Shrine in Charleston, W.Va.

He is survived by his wife, Janet V. Ferrari Evans, whom he married 53 years ago; two daughters, Barbara Jean Evans of Butler and Stacey Ann Evans of Philadelphia; a sister, Mrs. Cloise (Patricia) Houck of Ellwood City; and two children.

EVANS - Friends of Stanley W. Evans Jr., who died Thursday, May 8, 2003, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Oden Warman, pastor of the Christ Community Methodist Church, and the Rev. Cloyd M. Osborne, former pastor of Christ Community Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park in Rochester.

Mary Lou Wagner

Mary Lou Wagner, 58, of Hooker Road, Karns City, died at 4:05 a.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pittsburgh March 20, 1945, she was the daughter of Archie and Sadie E. Bright.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Wagner was an active member of the Butler Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school for years.

She is survived by her husband, James L. Wagner, whom she married Nov. 28, 1968; one daughter, Mrs. Brian (Nancy) McNeish of West Sunbury; two sons, Randy L. Wagner of Karns City and James L. Wagner Jr. of West Sunbury; and two grandchildren.

Wagner – Friends of Mary Lou Wagner, who died Saturday, May 10, 2003, will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and noon until time of service Tuesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Robert Calhoon, church pastor, officiating. Entombment will be at Mount Royal Cemetery in Glenshaw.

Jean S. Rider

Jean S. Rider, 71, of Butler died Sunday at Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg, after a long illness.

Born Nov. 1, 1931, in Butler, she was the daughter of Albert and Margaret Bennis Stutz.

She was a 1950 graduate of Butler High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader and was voted “Best Sport.”

She was a homemaker and mother. She also had worked for eight years as the bookkeeper at Robins Furniture Store in Butler.

Mrs. Rider was a former board member of the American Cancer Society, where she was active in the “Reach for Recovery” program, an instructor for the “I Can Cope” classes. She also was a member of the Breast Cancer Support Group at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.

Those who knew her will remember her as a kind and gentle soul that touched the lives of all who knew her. “She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was first.”

Surviving are her husband, Richard B. “Dick” Rider, whom she married May 25, 1957; a son and his wife, Richard B. “Rich” and Marcia Rider II of Butler; two daughters, Diane M. Pelusi and her husband, Steven, of Butler and Tracey J. Rider-Snelson and her husband, Richard, of Coatesville; two brothers and their wives, Richard and Wilma Stutz of Grove City and Ronald and Janet Stutz of Westfield, Mass.; two sister-in-laws, Sarah Stutz Braden and Jeanne Stutz McKivigan, both of Butler; and seven grandchildren, Chas, Ross, Sean, Sara, and Mark Pelusi and Courtney and Derek Snelson. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond “Sonny” Stutz and David Stutz.

RIDER - Friends of Jean S. Rider, who died May 11, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. The Rev. Harry Bielewicz will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery .

Memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Unit of the American Cancer Society, or the Butler Memorial Hospital Foundation “Tree of Life.”

The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday at the church to recite the rosary.

Dorothy J. Rhea

Dorothy J. Rhea, 92, of Parker died Sunday morning at the Caring Place in Franklin after an illness.

Born June 15, 1910, in Parker, she was the daughter of Khlare and Edna Gray DeRocher.

She graduated from the former Parker High School in 1927, and then graduated from Edinboro State Teachers College, now Edinboro University, in 1929 with a degree in elementary and art education. Mrs. Rhea did graduate work at both Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh. She was a longtime member of the Edinboro Alumni Association.

Mrs. Rhea was a teacher for more than 40 years at a number of schools. She taught for years in the Verona School District, now the Riverview School District.

She was a member of the Parker Presbyterian Church.

An avid bridge player, she was a member of the American Contract Bridge League. She also served as director for the Parker Duplicate Bridge Club for years.

Surviving are three daughters, Janice and Virginia Rhea of New York City, and Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Day of Houston; four grandchildren; a brother, Henry DeRocher of Aurora, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Paul Rhea, whom she married June 24, 1938, and who died Nov. 13, 1987.

RHEA - Friends of Dorothy J. Rhea, who died Sunday, May 11, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at H JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Wayne Street, Parker. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Anschutz, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Parker Presbyterian Cemetery .

Arthur H. Pellegrini

Arthur H. Pellegrini, 88, of Butler died Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital after an illness.

He was born on March 13, 1915, in Butler, a son of Primo and Cesare Collodi Pellegrini.

Mr. Pellegrini worked as a foreman in the Erection Shop of the Pullman-Standard plant for more than 30 years until his retirement in 1978.

A member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Mr. Pellegrini served as an usher. He also was a member of the Italian Fraternal Society in Butler and of the Pullman-Standard Foreman’s Club.

Mr. Pellegrini served as a Little League baseball coach in Butler and West Sunbury, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Catizone Pellegrini, whom he married 66 years ago; a son, Arthur A. “Tony” Pellegrini of Chicora; a sister, Mrs. Yolanda Pucci of Butler; a brother, Joseph Pellegrini of Butler; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and a grandson.

PELLEGRINI - Friends of Arthur H. Pellegrini, who died Friday, May 9, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery .

The St. Michael Bereavement Group will meet at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home for a scriptural wake service.

Lorraine ‘Larry’ M. Hoover Miller

Lorraine “Larry” M. Hoover Miller, 72, of Adams Township died Sunday at home.

Born in Pittsburgh Feb. 9, 1931, she was the daughter of Samuel and Anne Daniels Hoover.

Mrs. Miller was for years a secretary for Auld Real Estate until her retirement. She was a member of St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church in Mars.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond R. Miller Jr.; a daughter, Michelle Miller of Tacoma, Wash.; three sons, Raymond R. Miller of Alexandria. Va., James R. Miller of Alabama and Michael L. Miller of Richland Township.

Mrs. Miller is also survived by two brothers, Samuel Hoover Jr. and Daniel Hoover, both of Spring Hill, Fla.; and five sisters, Charlotte Hoburg of Allison Park, Josie Brent of Mars, Anna Kamphaus of Spring Hill, Fla., Almeda Blankenship of Urbana, Ohio, and Gladys Kern of McCandless Township.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

MILLER - Friends of Lorraine “Larry” M. Hoover Miller, who died Sunday, May 11, 2003, will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the HERBERT R. KING FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 8 at 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church in Mars with the Rev. Charles Bober as the celebrant. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Glenshaw.
