William E. Kolish, 44, of 888 Sarver Road, Winfield Township, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at his home.
Born May 29, 1958, in Homestead, he was the son of William Kolish and Delores (Fingal) Cervenyak.
Mr. Kolish was general manager for Glassmere Fuel in Tarentum, where he worked for 20 years. He also owned and operated B&L Rentals in Winfield Township for the past five years.
He was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Freeport.
He served in the Navy as an aircraft mechanic.
He was past president of the Saxonburg Baseball Association. He also coached T-ball and Little League baseball for Saxonburg.
Mr. Kolish enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie A (Macurdy) Kolish; three sons, Gregory, Jeffrey and Robert Kolish, at home; a daughter, Natalie Kolish, at home; his mother of Winfield Township; a brother, Mark S. Kolish of Buffalo Township; and three sisters, Mrs. Michelle (Mike) Critchlow, Mrs. Denise (Greg) Marburger and Mrs. Sherry (Tony) Ivanko, all of Winfield Township.
KOLISH - Friends of William E. Kolish of Winfield Township, who died Thursday, May 8, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the WILLIAM E. REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, 524 High St., Freeport. A parish wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Freeport, with the Rev. Thomas Federline, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery , Freeport.

Richard John Hockenberry Jr.
Richard John Hockenberry Jr., 6, of 2645 Oneida Valley Road in Petrolia died Saturday as the result of an accident at his home.
Born Sept. 23, 1996, in Butler, he was the son of Richard J. and Stacy R. Bergbigler Hockenberry.
He was a kindergarten student at Washington Elementary School in North Washington.
Along with his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Carissa Rose, Brittany Jean and Angelica Dawn, all at home; his maternal grandparents, Harry and Anna Bergbigler of Fenelton; his paternal grandfather, Richard McKruit of Butler; and his great-grandparents, Mrs. Rosamond Burke of Fenelton and Harry and Lottie Bergbigler of Butler. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
HOCKENBERRY - Friends of Richard J. Hockenberry Jr., who died Saturday, May 10, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home with Rev. James Lynn, pastor of the Butler Wesleyan Methodist Church, officiating. Final arrangements are incomplete.
Helen F. Cooper
Helen F. Cooper, 83, of Mars died Saturday morning at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township after an illness.
Born July 12, 1919, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Edgar J. and Henrietta Yeager Blaney.
Mrs. Cooper was a member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church and was an avid card player, flower gardener, dancer and pianist.
She was a retired shoe sales clerk for Camp Shoe Store in the Northway Mall.
Surviving are a daughter, Sydney Sheehy of Mars; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Cooper, who died in 1973.

Marlene L. Greenawalt, 50, of Hilliards died Tuesday afternoon at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital after an illness.

Helen E. Dietrich
Helen E. Dietrich, 82, of Sarver died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday at Fairwinds Manor in Sarver.
Born in Allegheny County, Oct. 5, 1920, she was the daughter of William and Clara Kessler Wagner.
Mrs. Dietrich was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Sarver. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and cooking.
She is survived by her husband, Albert Dietrich, whom she married May 20, 1950; a son, Daniel Dietrich of Stoneboro; four daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Susan) Marcinko, Mrs. Fred (Karen) Pierce and Ms. Janet Dietrich, all of Sarver, and Mrs. Leslie (Barbara) Harvey of Cabot; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Clarence Wagner of Cabot; and a sister, Mrs. Martha Strohm of Allegheny County also survive.
Four sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
DIETRICH - Friends of Helen E. Dietrich, who died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sarver, with the Rev Emery Barnett officiating. Burial will be at Sarverville Cemetery .

Jeffrey A. Christie
Jeffrey A. Christie, 34, of Hooker died unexpectedly Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born June 2, 1968, in Butler, he was the son of Richard D. and Carol L. Twentier Christie.
He was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church in Hooker and a social member of the West Sunbury American Legion.
Mr. Christie graduated from Moniteau High School in 1986 and was a supervisor and heavy equipment operator for Christie Excavating.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed go-cart racing with his son, golfing, hunting and basketball.
Surviving are a son, Devin A. Christie, at home; his parents of Hooker; two brothers, Richard L. Christie and his wife, Tammy, of Sugarland, Texas, and Michael R. Christie and his wife, Tiffany, of Annisville; and a sister, Leslie Y. Freshwater and her husband, Rudy, of Slippery Rock.
He also is survived by a nephew, Nicholas Christie of Annisville; a niece, Jordan Christie of Sugarland; his grandparents, Robert Loerch of Slippery Rock and Clyde and Helen Twentier Sr. of Butler; his paternal grandparents, Keith and Devona Christie of Hilliards; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Betty Twentier Loerch; and an uncle, Clyde Twentier Jr.

Dixie J. West
Dixie J. West, 66, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died Tuesday at her home in Ridgeville, Washington Township.
Born April 11, 1937, in Ridgeville, she was the daughter of Earl and Kathryn Mae Smith Hutchison.
She was a member of the Ridgeville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters Wanda Hornbeck of Hilliards and Mrs. Carmen (Carol) Marterella of Boyers; a brother, Detmar E. Hutchison of Hilliards; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Richard West, who died April 25, 1985, and a sister preceded her in death.
WEST - Friends of Dixie J. West, who died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Esther L. Welton
Esther L. Slater Welton, 86, of 608 Stowe St., Grove City, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City, after a long illness.
Born in New Vernon Township, Mercer County, Sept. 6, 1916, she was the daughter of Warren E. and Ida L. Montgomery Slater.
A graduate of Sandy Lake High School, she was a homemaker and lived at her Grove City address since 1956. She was a resident of Grove Manor since October 2002.
Mrs. Welton was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church and Grove City AARP. She enjoyed camping, crafts and bird watching.
She is survived by three daughters, Marjorie Stewart of Grove City, Brenda J. Haynie of Warren, Ohio, and Cheri F. Metz of West Middlesex; a sister, Carrie Sharp of Sandy Lake; a brother, Walter “Bud” Slater of Fairview; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Ralph A. Welton, whom she married Jan. 22, 1935, died Feb. 15, 2002. A son, two brothers, three sisters, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter also preceded her in death.
WELTON - Friends of Esther L. Welton, who died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Morse, her church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.
Christian L. Penrod
Christian Lanier Penrod, infant son of Joseph and Danielle Penrod of Chicora, died Wednesday at Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born April 25, 2003, in Pittsburgh.
His family belongs to St. Peter Roman Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Nicholas E. Penrod at home; his maternal grandparents: Hubert “Stitch” and Carol “Kit” Lanier of Butler; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Ann Murray of Butler; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
His paternal grandfather, Robert E. Penrod, preceded him in death.
PENROD - There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian burial for Christian Lanier Penrod, who died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Franklin Street, with the Rev. Jack Nanz, officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery . Arrangements by GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME.
The Women’s Council of St. Peter Parish will recite the rosary at 10:40 a.m. Friday at the church.
Ann Diehm Newcombe
Ann Diehm Newcombe, 81, of Bradford died May 1, 2003, after a long illness.
Born March 3, 1922, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Judge Edgar G. and Maude Hertzler Diehm.
She was raised in Youngstown, Ohio, and graduated from the city’s South High School. While attending Juniata College in Huntingdon, she met her husband, Robert Anthony Newcombe, who survives. They were married Nov. 4, 1942, in Nashville, Tenn.
Her lifetime passion was raising her six children and serving her church and community, and her involvement at the Bradford First Presbyterian Church took place over years. She was a 25-year member of the church choir and was active as a Sunday school teacher and in the Women’s Circle, the Presbyterian Women and the Silver Link Society.
She was actively involved in raising money and awareness for the McKean County Cancer Society and was active in the Republican Party.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann, and her husband, former Butler resident, Dr. David Gumpper of Mount Bethel, Northampton County; five sons, David Newcombe and his wife, Pat, of Ferrum Va., Robert D. Newcombe of Butler, John W. and Joseph M. Newcombe, both of Bradford, and Thomas I. Newcombe and his wife, Debra, of Titusville. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Leah and Paul Gumpper, Meghan McCauley, Michael and Beth Newcombe, Dustin, Katie and Andrew Newcombe, and Cory, Ashley and David Newcombe.
A brother, William H. Diehm of Poland, Ohio; and a sister, Mary Jane Coffman of Baltimore, Md., also survive.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Diehm.
A memorial service was Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, Bradford. A private graveside service was at Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township, Huntingdon County.
