Muriel A. Barclay

Muriel A. Barclay, 69, of Washington Township died Wednesday at Clarion Community Hospital after an illness,

Born in Butler County, April 19, 1934, she was the daughter of Glen and Garnet Fleeger Wolfe.

She was a farmhand on the Logut Farms near North Washington for more than 20 years. She also drove a school bus in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District for Woyner Bus Service for several years.

Mrs. Barclay was a Protestant.

Surviving are her husband, Robert E. Barclay, whom she married July 1, 1968; four sons, Robert S. Barclay of Grove City, and Ralph D., Roger E. and Roy E. Barclay, all of Parker; and a grandchild. Two sisters, Anna Johnson of Hooker and Mary Lou Turk of West Sunbury; two brothers, James and William Wolfe, both of Parker; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A sister preceded her in death.

BARCLAY - Friends of Muriel A. Barclay, who died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at H. JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Main Street, Eau Claire. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at West Sunbury Union Cemetery .

Carl Anthony Vogel

Carl Anthony Vogel, 79, of Dry Ridge, Ky., died April 12, 2003.

Born Jan. 12, 1924, in Butler, he was the son of Bernard and Grace Vogel.

He formerly lived in Butler and Cleveland, Ohio, and retired as a union mechanic.

Surviving are a son, Christopher A. Vogel of Euclid, Ohio; two brothers, William B. Vogel of Butler and Earl F. Vogel of Columbiana, Ohio; and two sisters, Virginia A. Kirk of New Brighton and Nancy M. Murray of Butler. His former wife, Bernice Shoup Vogel of Euclid, Ohio, also survives.

A brother and two sisters preceded him in death

Memorial services will be in Cleveland later.

Robert Shawgo

Robert Shawgo, 63, of Mercer, formerly of Slippery Rock, died of cancer April 18, 2003.

Born Oct. 2, 1939, he was the son of Opal Shawgo and the late John Shawgo.

He retired from Cooper Energy, Grove City.

Surviving are a son, Robert Shawgo of Slippery Rock; three daughters, Lorre Babcock of Callery, Michelle Bellinger of Springboro, Crawford County, and Dolores Manuel of Fairoak, Allegheny County; and three granddaughters. He also is survived by his mother of Grove City; his first wife, Dolores Kober Shawgo of Slippery Rock; his wife, Susan; four stepdaughters; two brothers; and a sister.

Helen M. Myers Sell

Helen M. Myers Sell, 93, of Cabot died early today at Concordia Care, Cabot.

Born in Gilpin Township, Armstrong County, Aug. 29, 1909, she was the daughter of Asa J. and Effie May Woodside Myers.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling.

Mrs. Sell was a member of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Sarver and the Sarver Community Choir.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. N.J. Blain and Mrs. D.A. Snyder; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Theodore Sell; eight brothers; and three great-grandchildren.

SELL - Friends of Helen M. Myers Sell, who died Friday, May 9, 2003, will be received from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg. Services will follow at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Hupp, her church pastor, officiating. Entombment will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Ministries, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023; or to Buffalo Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund, 678 Sarver Road, Sarver, PA 16055.

Emily V. Gnoth

Emily V. Smith Gnoth, 84, of Pleasant Hills died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at the Masonic Home in Sewickley.

Born July 8, 1918, in Erie, she was the daughter of John N. and Carrie Chrispen Smith.

She had been a registered nurse.

Mrs. Gnoth was a past matron of the Anna M. Rote Chapter 491 Order of the Eastern Star of Pleasant Hills and a member of the McKeesport Alumni Nurses Association and the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Edward J. Gnoth; a son, Edward L. Gnoth and his wife, Robin E., of Zelienople; two grandsons, Edward P. Gnoth and his wife, Faye, and James N. Gnoth and his wife, Melissa; a granddaughter, Lindsey Kirstatter; and a great-grandson, Sean Pugh.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Funeral services were today at the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Paul Thwaite officiated. Burial was at Belle Vernon Cemetery . JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, Pittsburgh, handled arrangements.

Shirley A. Dunn

Shirley A. Dunn, 64, of McBride Road in Brady Township died at 5:17 a.m. Thursday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a long illness.

Born in North Braddock, Allegheny County, Nov. 30, 1938, she was the daughter of John and Mary Lowers Yericic.

She was a mail clerk at the Slippery Rock Post Office and a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock

Surviving are her husband, David William Dunn, whom she married May 13, 1955; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Patricia Ann) Domain of Penn Hills; two sons, David James Dunn of Martin, Ga., and Paul E. Dunn of Slippery Rock; and four grandchildren. Two sisters and a brother, Sandra Farren and John Yericic, both of Murrysville, and Alice Styke of North Braddock, also survive.

Services will be private, and arrangements are by the SMITH FUNERAL HOME of Slippery Rock.

Eugene C. Barnes

Eugene Clarence Barnes, 80, of Cabot died Thursday at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.

Born in Coylesville, Nov. 29, 1922, he was the son of Reuben and Elizabeth Cooper Barnes.

He retired from Armstrong Cement Co. of West Winfield in 1985 and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church of Sarver.

Mr. Barnes was a World War II Army veteran serving from February 1943 to December 1945 with the 204th AA Division.

He is survived by his wife, Leona G. Freehling Barnes, whom he married Aug. 26, 1951; a son, Douglas Barnes of Chambersburg; two daughters, Janine Berkoben of Butler and Mrs. Ronald (Tracy) Rieder of Chicora; and two granddaughters. Two sisters, Inez Stewart of Kittanning and Opal Myers of New Jersey also survive.

A sister preceded him in death.

BARNES - Friends of Eugene Clarence Barnes, who died Thursday, May 8, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Howard Greenfield, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery .

Howard E. Ray, 80, of Portersville died early today at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Raisley Funeral Home, Prospect, is completing arrangements.

Eileen J. Miller

Eileen J. Miller, 86, formerly of Harrisville and Girard, Erie County, died Monday at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center following an extended illness.

Born in New Florence, Westmoreland County on Oct. 27, 1916, she was the daughter of Russell and Bertha Henry Jobe.

She was a graduate of Harrisville High School, Slippery Rock University and Edinboro University.

She had taught briefly in the Millcreek School District and was an investigator with the State of Pennsylvania for many years.

In Erie, she was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, and had also belonged to the Harrisville United Methodist Church in Butler County. She sang with the Sweet Adelines, enjoyed traveling and had spent winters in Florida.

Following her retirement, she was the founder of the Feed My Sheep Food Pantry for Northwest Butler County, located now in Slippery Rock.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne M. Lewis of Erie; a son, Michael S. Miller of Erie; a sister, Roberta Surrena of Harrisville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Miller, in 1997; two sons, a grandson and a brother.

MILLER - Friends of Eileen J. Miller, who died Monday, April 7, 2003, will be received from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at the BURTON WEST LAKE FUNERAL HOME, 3816 West Lake Road, Erie. Services will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Patterson, pastor of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery , Erie County.

Memorials may be made to the Feed My Sheep Food Pantry, 320 North Main St., Slippery Rock, PA 16057.

Mary I. Harkness

Mary I. Harkness, 79, of Butler died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at her home.

Born in Ireland, March 1, 1924, she was the daughter of John Patrick and Kathleen Dowd.

Surviving are her husband, Dale C. Harkness whom she married Sept. 24, 1943; three sons, Dale P. and Ralph D. Harkness, both of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Larry M. Harkness of West View; and seven grandchildren.

Four sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

HARKNESS - Friends of Mary I. Harkness, who died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at WILLIAM F. YOUNG, JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., 127 W. Jefferson St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Christopher at the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Prospect. The Rev. Matthew Tosello will officiate. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery , Prospect.
