Joseph A. Alfano Sr., 60, of Aliquippa, Beaver County, died Friday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born Aug. 9, 1942, in Aliquippa, he was a son of Frank and Rose Alfano.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served for four years.
He was a member of the St. Titus Catholic Church in Aliquippa.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph Alfano Jr. of Cranberry Township, and Frank Alfano of Baltimore; a daughter, Lisa Claus of Butler; a brother, John Alfano of Indiana; two sisters, Rose Riccardi of Lynbrook, N.Y., and Dina Fayad of Aliquippa; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
ALFANO - Services for Joseph A. Alfano Sr., who died Friday, March 28, 2003, were at 11 a.m. today in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery .
The Beaver County Special Unit performed full military honors at the Cemetery today.
Jacob A. Lehnerd
Jacob Andrew Lehnerd, 6, son of Andrew Philip and Tracy Lynn Campbell Lehnerd of Jefferson Township, died Monday at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh of injuries received Saturday night in a two-vehicle accident in Jefferson Township.
Born Feb. 14, 1997, in Butler, he attended kindergarten at Saxonburg Primary Center and enjoyed Little League baseball, camping and the outdoors.
He belonged to the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Matthew James Lehnerd at home; his maternal grandparents, Jim and Nancy Campbell of Butler; and his paternal grandparents, Edward and Mary Lehnerd of Cabot. Also surviving are his godparents, Doug and Cindy Montgomery of Cabot; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
LEHNERD - Friends of Jacob Andrew Lehnerd, who died Monday, March 31, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Brewer, his church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery .
William ‘Ken’ Hillwig
William Kenneth “Ken” Hillwig, 88, of Marwood Road in Cabot, formerly of Bruin, died at 4 a.m. Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Conneration, Clarion County, July 22, 1914, he was the son of Leslie and Mae Gray Hillwig.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora; Connoquenessing I.O.O.F. Lodge 278, Butler, where he was noble grand; Bruin Volunteer Fire Department; and Bruin Senior Center.
Mr. Hillwig had attended Hillville School.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Evelyn King Hillwig, whom he married Oct. 11, 1940, in New Cumberland, W.Va.; two sons and their spouses, Dennis L. and Rita Hillwig of Chambersburg, Pa., and Jeffrey W. and Cindy Hillwig of Parker R.D. 3; four grandchildren, Matthew B. and Troy A. Hillwig, both of Chambersburg, Jolene M. Garcia and her husband Cortney of Hershey, and Gary A. Hillwig and his wife Tiffiny of Eau Claire; and a great-granddaughter, Chelsey Ann Hillwig of Eau Claire. Two sisters-in-law, Mary Hillwig of Chicora and Joan Hillwig of Chicora R.D.; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter and Elton Hillwig and two infant brothers.

Jeanne Ann Sawhook
Jeanne Ann Sawhook, 95, of Butler died at 2:25 p.m. Monday at NHC Health Care Nursing Home, Greenville, S.C.
Born in Tyrie, Aberdeen, Scotland, Feb. 18, 1908, she was the daughter of William Duffus and Mary Thompson Leith.
She was a homemaker.
A 1926 graduate of Butler High School, where she was valedictorian, she had been a social services worker for the Butler Presbyterian at the Lyndora Presbyterian Church and Community House before her marriage.
Mrs. Sawhook was a lifetime member of the Calvary Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where she was active in many groups including the Voyagers Sunday school class. She served as superintendent of the Junior Department and taught various Sunday school classes. She also taught in the Released Time Religious Education Program.
She had been a Cub Scout Den mother and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Sunnyview Monday Worship Service and Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s Sunday Coffee Hour.
Surviving are a son, retired Navy Capt. James L. Sawhook of Greenville, S.C.; a daughter, Marjorie Homeyard of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Walter James Sawhook, whom she married April 25, 1936, died April 25, 1993. She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter and two sisters.
SAWHOOK - There will be no visitation. Services for Jeanne Ann Sawhook, who died Monday, March 31, 2003, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. The Rev. Allen Moran, her church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.

Marion R. Knauff
Marion R. Knauff, 78, of Evans City died Tuesday at Evergreen Nursing Center, Harmony.
Born June 25, 1924, in Evans City, she was the daughter of LaVerne G. and C. Alberta Marburger Ramsey.
Mrs. Knauff had been a secretary at MSA in Callery for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Evans City and a member and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also was a volunteer for the Evans City Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are her husband, W. Kenneth Knauff Jr., whom she married July 12, 1943; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki L. and J. Patrick Sammons of Evans City; and a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald L. and Julia Rahiser Knauff of Evans City. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tiffany Burke, Kyle Knauff, Kimberly Deane and Ken Sammons; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet O. Kephart, who died Aug. 18, 1999.
KNAUFF - Friends of Marion R. Knauff, who died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 116 E. Main St., Evans City. Florence S. Lewis
Florence S. Lewis, 90, formerly of Butler, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter in Pennsylvania Furnace, Centre County.
Born June 22, 1912, in Butler, she was the daughter of Philip and Mary J. Effenbergr Stehle.
She was a graduate of Butler High School and retired in 1977 as the credit manager at the J.C. Penney store in Butler after 26 years.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of North Street Christian Church, where she was a deaconess and belonged to the Homebuilders Class. She also belonged to the Eastern Star.
Surviving are a daughter, Selma L. King of Pennsylvania Furnace; a son, Gilbert L. “Gib” Lewis Jr. of Butler; a sister, Lillian Hutchison of State College; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Gilbert L. Lewis Sr., died Sept. 29, 1951. A brother and a sister also preceded her in death.
LEWIS - A memorial service for Florence S. Lewis, who died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, will be held at 11 a.m. April 12 at North Street Christian Church. The Rev. Robert Huber will officiate. Ruth L. Foreman
Ruth L. Foreman, 85, of Las Vegas, formerly of Butler, died at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday at Mountainview Hospital, Las Vegas.
Born in Butler, March 19, 1918, she was the daughter of Edward and Emma Frederick Yost.
She was a homemaker and a former member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Surviving are two sons, Walter E. Foreman of Houston and John W. Foreman of Baltimore; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Paul W. Foreman, died March 18, 1977. Five brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.

Dorothy L. Angert
Dorothy L. “Dolly” Angert, 56, of 210 McClain Ave., died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at her home after an illness.
Born in Butler, Feb. 15, 1947, she was the daughter of Leonard S. and Dorothy DeRita Codispot Sr.
She was a homemaker and formerly worked at Natili Restaurant and Lounge. She attended the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her husband, Robert L. Angert, to whom she was married for 39 years; two daughters, Mrs. David (Donna) Snyder and Mrs. Scott (Toni) Michael, both of Butler; three brothers, Joseph Codispot of California, and Michael A. and Leonard Codispot Jr., both of Butler; and two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Virginia) Smith of Butler and Mrs. Madeline “Midge” Freehling of Saxonburg. Also surviving are five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
A sister, a brother and a niece preceded her in death.

James H. Reed Sr.
James H. Reed Sr., 73, of 110 Hawksview Lane died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center after an illness.’
Born in Wyano, Westmoreland County, May 14, 1929, he was the son of James A. and Edna A. Lowry Reed.
He retired from the Army after 22 years. During his career he served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He then worked at the Butler Post Office.
Mr. Reed attended St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville, had been an umpire for Little League Baseball and belonged to the East Butler Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife, Mary B. McGuire Reed, to whom he was married for 50 years; a son, James H. Reed Jr. of Dover, York County; a daughter, Mrs. Brian (Sheila) Donelson of Fenelton; a brother, Allen Reed of East Pittsburgh; and two sisters, Mrs. Jacob (Florence) Day of Berlin, Somerset County, and Mrs. Virginia Hunkele of Gibsonia. Five grandchildren also survive.
A grandson preceded him in death.

Charles E. Rupkey
Charles E. Rupkey, 79, of Valencia, formerly of Sharpsburg, died Friday evening at his home.
Born Feb. 14, 1924, in Quantico, Va., he was the son of Charles E. and Olive Pearl Knight Rupkey.
He had worked as a boilermaker for the union and for companies.
Mr. Rupkey served with the Army during World War II.
He was a member of Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Glade Mills and the Holy Sepulcher Knights of Columbus Council 10175.
Surviving are his companion, Evelyn Bradt; a daughter, Vivian Coward of Valencia; two sisters, Peggy Scherer of Key West, Fla., and Shirley Brandt of Laurel, Md.; and a grandson.
His wife, Mary Belsito Rupkey, whom he married on Sept. 14, 1945, died July 29, 1998.
Four brothers and a sister also preceded him in death.
