Delores “Maxine” Meier, 71, of Butler died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday.
Born Feb. 4, 1932, she was the daughter of Edward S. and Catherine Curley Ross.
Mrs. Meier retired from Bell Telephone after 30 years.
She was a member of the Oak Hills Christian Church and a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Mrs. Meier is survived by her husband, Paul R. Meier, whom she married Nov. 26, 1955; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
MEIER - Friends of Delores “Maxine” Meier, who died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, may attend a graveside service at 2 p.m. Monday at the Summit United Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Phillip Conyers Jr. of Oak Hill Christian Church officiating. There is no visitation. Arrangements are being made by the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, Butler.

Ethel J. Harmon
Ethel J. Harmon, 80, formerly of Zelienople, died Friday at Creek Meadows Personal Assisted Living, Franklin Township.
Born March 2, 1923, in Beaver, she was a daughter of Lawrence A. and C. Verl Headland Peters.
Mrs. Harmon was a member of the Park United Presbyterian Church in Zelienople, and a member of the Portersville Keenagers.
She is survived by two sons, James W. Harmon of Prospect and Lawrence D. Harmon of Evans City; a daughter, Trudy L. Lutz of Zelienople; a sister, Ruth Morrow of Clearwater, Fla.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William V. Harmon, whom she married in 1941 and who died Sept. 18, 1984; a brother; and two sisters.
HARMON - Friends of Ethel J. Harmon, who died Friday, April 4, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Clyde, interim pastor of Park United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.

Jean Carney
Jean Carney of New Castle died Monday afternoon at Jameson Memorial Hospital, New Castle.
Born in New Castle, she was the daughter of John and Anna Ballas Selegean.
She was retired from the Lawrence County Vocational-Technical School and had been co-owner of Carney Brothers Greenhouse. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Mrs. Carney was a member of St. Michael Church, St. Vincent DePaul Roman Catholic Parish of New Castle. She also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of South New Castle Borough Volunteer Fire Department.
She is survived by two daughters, Marietta and JoLynn Carney, both of New Castle; a son, Thomas Carney of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Mae Glodic of New Castle; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Her husband, Joseph Carney, whom she married June 25, 1945, died Dec. 1, 1970. A brother also preceded her in death.
CARNEY - Friends of Jean Carney, who died Monday, March 24, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at ED & DON DECARBO FUNERAL HOME, 941 S. Mill St., New Castle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, New Castle. The procession will leave the funeral home for the church at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Ben Vaghetto of St. Vincent DePaul Parish will officiate. Burial will be at St. Vitus Church Cemetery .
Ana Sloan Stewart
Ana Alers Sloan Stewart 82, formerly of Lumar Village, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at Sugar Creek Rest, Worthington.
Born in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, March 3, 1921, she was the daughter of Tomas and Clemencia Sellas Alers.
She had worked at the Nixon Hotel in the 1950s. She also had worked at Capitol Cleaners and retired from the food service department of the Butler School District in 1983 after 17 years.
Mrs. Stewart was a member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, the AARP and formerly was active with PARC.
Surviving are her husband, Donald R. Stewart, whom she married Oct. 3, 1953; two daughters, Mrs. David (Joanne) Ellenberger of Butler and Mrs. David (Kathleen) Shidemantle of Harmony; three sons, Joseph Sloan of Houston, Texas, Tomas Sloan of Natrona Heights and Stanley Stewart of Butler; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Ofelia Alers of Tampa, Fla., and Aida Gil de Lamadrid of Ponce, Puerto Rico; and a brother, Juan Alers of Ponce, also survive.
Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
STEWART - Friends of Ana Alers Sloan Stewart, who died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Mohr, her church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery .

Robert M. Hilliard
Robert M. Hilliard, 77, of Whitehall, Allegheny County, died Saturday from a heart attack.
Born Feb. 21, 1926, in Butler, he was the son of William J. and Hazel Cunningham Hilliard.
He was a January 1944 graduate of Butler High School.
He was a former state trooper stationed at Greensburg, and retired as a manager from Bell of Pennsylvania in 1985 after 32 years.
Mr. Hilliard was a recipient of Bell’s Meritorius Service Award for helping to save the life of a young boy who had fallen through a glass storm door.
He attended Duff’s Iron City College, where he was a member of Delta Nu Omega Fraternity.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Lou Soffee; a son, William J. Hilliard of Silver Springs, Md., and several cousins.
HILLIARD - Funeral services for Robert M. Hilliard, who died Saturday, March 22, 2003, were held on Monday at the John F. Slater Funeral Home in Brentwood.

Thomas W. Hartmann
Thomas W. Hartmann, 83, of Harmony died Wednesday at the Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony.
Born Sept. 12, 1919, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of Alfred and Mary Welty Hartmann Sr.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Charlotte Hartmann of Zelienople, a niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
HARTMANN - Friends of Thomas W. Hartmann, who died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 will be received from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Alma Diane Dovey, 52, of Jefferson Township died Thursday at the home of her sister in Jefferson Township.

Jane E. Schroeder
Jane E. Schroeder, 85, of Valencia died Friday evening at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.
Born April 4, 1917, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Martha McChesney Devakos.
A homemaker, she was a member of Glade Run United Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Belinda Spring of Middlesex Township; a son, Edward Schroeder of Middlesex Township; a sister, Agnes Dittmar of Beechview; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Her husband, Edward M. Schroeder, died in 1963.
Two brothers also preceded her in death.

Esther Marie ‘Pat’ Moser
Esther Marie “Pat” Moser, 91, of Butler died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at home.
Born Dec. 21, 1911, in Butler, she was a daughter of David and Wilhelmina Voland Markle.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith Danielson of Butler; a daughter-in-law, Jean Moser of Butler; two granddaughters, Melissa Moser and Stephanie Moser, both of Butler; a sister, Florence Markle of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Moser Sr., whom she married Oct. 22, 1934, and who died in 1978.
Also preceding her in death were a son, Donald Moser Jr.; a son-in-law, Dr. Carl Danielson Jr.; and two brothers and two sisters.
MOSER - Friends of Esther Marie “Pat” Moser, who died Saturday, March 29, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. James E. Minda
James E. Minda, 44, of Butler died at 6:10 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003 at Sunnyview Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 22, 1958, in McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, he was a son of Earl and Jeannette Pergantis Minda.
He had worked as a welder for Pullman Standard and Trinity Industries.
Mr. Minda was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Cumberland Minda; two daughters, Maria Minda and Sara Minda, both of Butler; and two brothers, Timothy Minda of Butler and Greg Minda of Volant.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Private services were today at the YOUNG FUNERAL HOME in Butler. The Rev. John Neyman officiated. Burial was in West Sunbury Union Cemetery .
