Edwin R. Martin, 80, of 146 Double Road in Connoquenessing Township, died at 12:50 p.m. Sunday at his home.
Born in Butler, June 13, 1922, he was the son of Paul and Margaret McCaffry Martin.
He had worked at the A&P grocery store in Butler and retired in 1978 after 33 years. He then worked for the Butler School District for 12 years before retiring in 1990.
He was a Protestant and served as an Army sergeant during World War II and the Korean War.
Surviving are two daughters, Penny Martin Sloan of Harrisville and Gwen Martin Beatty of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Brett Martin of Parker, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Three sisters, Garnet Martin and Karen McCall, both of Butler, and Sandra Castle of Larkspur, Colo.; two brothers, Paul Martin of Butler and Gerald Martin of California; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
His wife, Dolly Louise Shearer Martin, died Oct. 4, 1997. Five sisters and a brother also preceded him in death.
MARTIN - Friends of Edwin R. Martin, who died Sunday, March 30, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Harvey, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in American, officiating. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.
The VFW Post 249 Honor Guard will conduct graveside military honors.
Raydell Marie Horm
Raydell Marie Horm, 89, of Sarver died Sunday at the Oertel Care Center at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.
Born in Oil City, April 23, 1913, she was the daughter of Floyd and Ella Whaley.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Middlesex Presbyterian Church in Middlesex Township.
Surviving are two sons, John Horm of Annapolis, Md., and Edward Horm III of Tarentum; a daughter, Mrs. John (Elaine) Maltese of Silver Springs, Md.; a brother, Edward Whaley of Colorado; and a sister, Mrs. Emma “Tuss” McQuistion of Largo, Fla. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Her husband, Edward Horm, who died Aug. 10, 1998; two brothers, and three sisters preceded her in death.
HORM - Friends of Raydell Marie Horm, who died Sunday, March 30, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin Bowen, her church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Dorseyville.
Lila Gertrude Grindel
Lila Gertrude Grindel, 82, of 125 Maplewood Drive, Center Township, died at 6 a.m. Saturday at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born in Butler, Oct. 23, 1920, she was the daughter of Burton and Beulah Pollock Layton.
She was a homemaker and was active with the National, Pennsylvania and Unionville granges. She was a registered nurse and served as a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps from May 1945 to September 1946. She then was a registered nurse at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mrs. Grindel was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Center Township and the church Ladies Guild.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Frederick Grindel, whom she married Aug. 27, 1949; a son, Robert Dennis Grindel of Libertyville, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Patricia) Rajchel and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Herman, both of Butler; and seven grandchildren. A brother and a sister, William Layton and Mrs. Elmer (Grace) Sutton, both of Butler, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A brother preceded her in death.
GRINDEL - Friends of Lila Gertrude Grindel, who died Saturday, March 29, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, North Main Street Extension. The Rev. James Salberg will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery .
Clifton E. Fehl
Clifton E. Fehl, 88, of Renfrew died Friday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born Aug. 9, 1914, in Forward Township, he was a son of John and Catherine Nicklas Fehl.
Mr. Fehl was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Evans City.
He retired as a machinist for Castle Rubber Co. in East Butler in 1977.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II.
Mr. Fehl was a member of the American Legion Post 683 in Saxonburg and was a life member of the Butler Moose Lodge No. 64.
He was a former Connoquenessing Township supervisor and was the former owner/operator of Moose Home Park, Connoquenessing Township.
He is survived by three sons, Roger Fehl of Phoenix and Randy and Dennis Fehl, both of Renfrew; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
FEHL - Friends of Clifton E. Fehl, who died Friday, March 28, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 116 E. Main St., Evans City. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Thompson, his pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the White Oak Springs Cemetery , Renfrew.

Aldo J. Cassioli
Aldo J. Cassioli, 85, of Newhaven Court in Center Township, formerly of Brown Avenue, died at 9:20 a.m. Sunday at Sunnyview Nursing Home after an illness.
Born in Butler, March 6, 1918, he was the son of Giulio and Ada Baldacci Cassioli.
He retired in 1981 from Armco-Butler Works and was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.
Mr. Cassioli was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the Italian Society of Butler and a longtime member of YMCA, where he enjoyed early morning swims.
Surviving are his wife, Bertha Hergenroeder Cassioli, to whom he was married for 63 years; three sons, Richard and Thomas Cassioli, both of California, and George Cassioli of Butler; a daughter, Beth Cassioli of California; and a sister, Mrs. Ray (Norma) Yovanovich of Butler. Four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and number of nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Frances Rose Zaccari
Frances Rose Zaccari, 87, of 422 E. Jefferson St. died at 1:05 a.m. today at Sunnyview Nursing Home after an illness.
Born in Butler, Dec. 19, 1915, she was the daughter of John and Mary Weber.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
Surviving are a son, Michael “Mickey” Zaccari of Butler; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Sandy) Lucas of Butler; two brothers, Edward Weber of Butler and Joseph Weber of Lyndora; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Phillips of Butler and Mrs. Josephine Wasirick of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Zaccari, who died Feb. 13, 1983, and by two brothers.

Tami Lee Sweeney
Tami Lee Sweeney, 37, of Main Street, Petrolia, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 10 p.m. Saturday at her home.
Born in Phoenix, Ariz., March 24, 1965, she was the daughter of R. George and Gloria A. Miller Sweeney of Petrolia.
A 1984 graduate of Karns City High School, she was a member of the Petrolia Presbyterian Church and was active with the children’s Sunday school activities.
She is survived by her parents of Petrolia; her pet dog, Sami; a sister, Vicki L. Hefferan and husband Gerald of Butler; and two brothers, Richard L. Sweeney and wife Marcia E. of East Brady and Jeffrey L. Sweeney and wife Kathy S. of Chicora. Also surviving are four nieces, Jennifer and Stephanie Hefferan, both of Butler, Karissa Sweeney of Chicora and Michelle Sweeney of East Brady; and five nephews, Joel and Jacob Sweeney, both of East Brady, Zachary Hefferan of Butler and Jason and Dakota Sweeney, both of Chicora; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Herman M. Nelson
Herman M. Nelson, 72, of 712 Sunset Drive in Center Township died at 3:25 a.m. Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Butler, Nov. 6, 1930, he was the son of Merrill A. and Florence Park Nelson.
In 1990, he retired as a technician from the Army National Guard in Butler after 28 years.
He also retired as a sergeant first class with the Army National Guard on Nov. 6, 1990, after 42 years of military service and served with the 110th Infantry, 28th Infantry Division in Germany during the Korean War.
Mr. Nelson was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, William H. Miller Masonic Lodge 769, the United Commercial Travelers, VFW Post 249 and T.O.P.S. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Frida Mack Nelson, whom he married in Germany on Jan. 3, 1951; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Monica) Zarnick of Renfrew and Mrs. Jon (Debbie) Damiano of Richmond, Va.; a son, Herman R. Nelson of Butler; and six grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. James (Eleanor) Petsinger of Butler and Mrs. Carole Harrah of Nashville, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A son preceded him in death.
NELSON - Friends of Herman M. Nelson, who died Sunday, March 23, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First English Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Dollhopf officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.
Members of Masonic Lodge 769 will hold a memorial service at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be accorded at the Cemetery by VFW Post 249.

Kathleen A. Green
Kathleen A. Green, 47, of Bonniebrook Road died at 3:15 p.m. Sunday at home, following an extended illness.
Born March 2, 1956, in Butler, she was a daughter of John and Barbara (Green) Green.
She was a third grade teacher at St. Wendelin Catholic School in Carbon Center for the last 11 years. Prior to that, she had worked at Marmon Keystone Corp. in Butler.
Ms. Green was a Butler High School graduate. She also graduated from the Butler County Community College and Clarion University, where she earned degrees in elementary education and early childhood development.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, where she served as a lector and had been a Eucharistic minister. She also was a youth group leader at the parish and was a former parish council member.
Ms. Green was a volunteer at the Butler Junior Conservation School in East Butler, and had served as a chaperone for a Girl Scout trip to Alaska.
She enjoyed bowling and participating with the Trees and Flowers team.
She is survived by a brother, Dennis Green of Butler; five sisters, Mrs. Nancy Burns of Goldsboro, N.C., Mrs. Brian (Donna) Schaffner of Martinsburg, W.Va., Mrs. Randall (Patricia) Tack of Sugar Grove, Pa., Mrs. Norman (Mary) Fallen of Evans City and Mrs. Kevin (Elaine) Mikula of York; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by two brothers.

Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church in Carbon Center. The Rev. Michael Maranowski, her pastor, and the Rev. Harry Bielewicz, pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church in Butler, will officiate. Burial will be at the parish Cemetery .
A parish vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
