Dorothy L. Bloom

Dorothy L. Bloom, 98, of Butler died at 8:20 a.m. Friday at Sunnyview Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 6, 1905, in Butler, she was the daughter of William and Mary Bailey Bortmas.

She was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church and a life member of Tanglewood Senior Center.

Mrs. Bloom was a homemaker and had worked for her brother at Butler Florist and for Pyles Store in Prospect in her early years.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Marcia) Walls of Butler, Ms. Mary Lou Sheldon of Butler and Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Rolf (Harriet) Amsler of Saline, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Harry J. Bloom, died Jan. 17, 1003. Four sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death.

BLOOM - Friends of Dorothy L. Bloom, who died Friday, March 14, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at WILLIAM F. YOUNG JR. FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Porter, her church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.

Robert S. Stump

Robert S. Stump, 62, of Valencia died Friday at UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born Feb. 26, 1941, in Camden-On-Gully, W.Va.

He is survived by a son, Eric Stump of Cranberry Township; a daughter, Laura Domen of Greentree; and two grandchildren.

STUMP - Friends of Robert S. Stump, who died Friday, March 14, 2003, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today at PAUL E. BOHN FUNERAL HOME, 1099 Maplewood Ave., Ambridge. The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

John N. Mostowy

John N. Mostowy, 85, of Butler, formerly of Bruin, died Saturday afternoon at his home after a long illness.

Born in West Butler, the Lyndora area, Sept. 12, 1917, he was the son of Mike and Parzia Sprink Mostowy.

He was a member and trustee of the Martinsburg Presbyterian Church of Bruin and a former member of the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Mostowy worked at Armco-Butler Works for 37 years and retired in 1975. He then worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation until 1979. He also had been self-employed as the owner of a pool hall and a shoe repair business while living in Bruin.

A veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged on Jan. 17, 1946, as a sergeant with the Army’s 309th Combat Engineers Battalion.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Gilbert Mostowy, whom he married Aug. 22, 1941; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (M. Dianne) Grazier of Butler; three sons, Richard D. Mostowy of LaJolla, Calif., John W. Mostowy of Sanford, N.C., and Ronald Mostowy of San Escondido, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Mike Mostowy of Bruin and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

His stepfather, three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

MOSTOWY - Friends of John N. Mostowy, who died Saturday, March 15, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at H. JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Wayne Street, Parker. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Allegheny Cemetery , near Parker.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Services of Butler County.

Betty M. Reighard

Betty M. Reighard, 75, of Rimersburg died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 2, 1927, in Rimersburg, she was the daughter of Lyman T. and Dorothy B. Henry Greenawalt.

A 1945 graduate of Rimersburg High School, she received an associate’s degree in business from the Butler County Community College in May 1982 and had been a clerk typist II at the Clarion County Welfare Office from July 1985 until she retired in September 2002.

She was a Protestant.

Surviving are a son, Robert James Reighard of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Katherine D. McCaslin of Poland, Ohio, and Cynthia Lynn Waldroup of East Brady; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by three brothers, James H. Greenawalt of Shippenville, Richard L. Greenawalt of East Brady and Edward A. Greenawalt of Rimersburg; three sisters, Jean Stupka of Pulaski, Lois Greenawalt of Rimersburg and Judith Burns of North Richardson Hills, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

A sister and a brother preceded her in death.

REIGHARD - Friends of Betty M. Reighard, who died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at RICHARD D. HILLIS FUNERAL HOME, Rimersburg. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Eaton, pastor of Rimersburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Rimersburg Cemetery .

Alvin G. TurIey

Alvin G. Turley, 69, of Cranberry Township died Tuesday at UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless.

Born July 8, 1933, in Ottawa, W.Va. he was the son of Hezekiah and Carrie Carver Turley.

Mr. Turley was a member and past president of the Cranberry Volunteer Fire Department and a volunteer at Camp Kon-O-Kwee and Boy Scout and Girl Scout camps.

He was the founder of Turley’s Towing Service in Cranberry Township. He also belonged to the Pennsylvania Towing Association and was presented the Tow Man 500 Award for being the 72nd oldest towing company in the United States.

He retired as a master sergeant in the Air Force after 23 years and had served in the Korean War.

He is survived by four daughters, Deborah Sahene of Bellevue, Kathy and Tina Turley, both of Cranberry Township, and Cindy Good of Portland, Maine; a son, James Turley of Cranberry Township; and a brother, Dennis Turley of Kent, Ohio. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

His wife, Shirley “Tootie” Turley, whom he married Nov. 15, 1955, died Aug. 29, 2001. Two brothers also preceded him in death.

TURLEY - Friends of Alvin G. Turley, who died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME, 219 E. Grandview Avenue, Zelienople. Funeral services will at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral, home. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Reformed Church Cemetery , Zelienople.

Memorial donations may be made to Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer, Fombell, PA 16123; or to Cranberry Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 802 Thompson Park Drive, Cranberry Township, PA 16066.

Gordon R. Prentice

Gordon R. Prentice, 81, of North Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Butler, died Friday.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Seattle Pacific College, his master’s degree from Slippery Rock University in 1967 and he attended Roberts Wesleyan College in North Chili, N.Y., and California (Pa.) University.

While in Butler, he had been a sixth-grade teacher in the Slippery Rock School District and was the assistant pastor of the Highland Free Methodist Church of Tarentum and Creighton. His latest position was world missions director at Cape Coral Community Church in Florida.

Surviving are his wife, Ethel Prentice; three brothers, Carl, Walter and Donald Prentice; five grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

PRENTICE - Friends of Gordon R. Prentice, who died Friday, March 14, 2003, will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Cape Coral Community Church, where the service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Park Cemetery . LEE MEMORIAL PARK FUNERAL HOME, Lehigh Acres, Fla., is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cape Coral Community Church Mission Fund.

Mary Keczmer
Wednesday, March 19, 2003
Mary Keczmer, 86, of Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg, died early today at the center.
Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg, is completing arrangements.

Gilbert L. Claypoole

Gilbert L. “Bunt” Claypoole, 77, of 123 Fairview Ave. died at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, after an illness.

Born in Butler, June 15, 1925, he was the son of Howard and Myrtle Ace Claypoole.

He enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing and had been employed at Central Chemical in Butler for years.

Surviving are five sons, Leroy Claypoole of Karns City, Ralph Claypoole of Petrolia, Carl Claypoole of Washington, Pa., and Gene and Paul Claypoole, both of Butler; two daughters, Linda Atwell of Mercer and Norma Claypoole of Butler; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Howard Claypoole of Mount Jackson, Lawrence County, and Charles Claypoole of Chicora; a sister, Mary Boofer of Parker; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Two sisters preceded him in death.

CLAYPOOLE - Friends of Gilbert L. “Bunt” Claypoole, who died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at RICHARD D HILLIS FUNERAL HOME, Petrolia. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Perkin, pastor of the Free Methodist Church of Butler, officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery , Petrolia.

Memorial donations may be made to Gene Claypoole, 182 Wesley Lane, Butler, PA 16002.

Nancy Marie Bowser

Nancy Marie Bowser, 60, of Mercer died at 3:50 a.m. Thursday at United Community Hospital, Grove City.

Born in New Castle, May 30, 1942, she was the daughter of Betty Bessho Baxter and the late David Andrew Baxter.

She was a clerk at Point Hoagie.

Surviving are three daughters, Vickie Cypher of Mercer, Kathleen Cromer of Hermitage and Debbie Aller of New Castle; two sons, Terry Bowser of Mercer and David Baxter of Harlansburg; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Harry Baxter of Mercer, Larry Baxter of Arizona and Russell Bessho of Midland, Texas, and a sister, Linda Bowser of Middleburg, Fla., also survive.

A brother preceded her in death.

BOWSER - Services for Nancy Marie Bowser, who died Thursday, March 20, 2003, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at R. CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, Wilmington Road, New Castle. The Rev. Douglas Molgaard, pastor of Barkeyville Church of God, will officiate. There will be no visitation.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, Wexford Professional Bldg. II, 11676 Perry Highway, Wexford, PA 15090.

Andy Adams

Andy Adams, 94, of Kittanning, formerly of Whitestown Road, died Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born April 25, 1908, in Coraopolis, he was the son of George Adams.

A retired coal miner, he had worked for Wildwood Coal Co. in the North Park area and later worked for R&P Coal Co. in Indiana, Pa.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, the Mount Chestnut Senior Center, the A.A.R.P. and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 64. He also was a volunteer who provided transportation for the elderly and visited with shut-ins. He enjoyed gardening and handiwork.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Ann M. Hattz Adams, whom he married Nov. 22, 1945; a son, Robert A. Adams of Valencia; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jean) Davidson Jr. of Kittanning; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A daughter, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

ADAMS - Friends of Andy Adams, who died Thursday, March 20, 2003, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. The Rev. Harry Bielewicz will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.

The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will recite the Rosary at 9:35 a.m. Monday at the church.
