Katherine was an avid gardener and had a green thumb that was the envy of the neighborhood. She could make anything grow and she enjoyed canning what she produced. During her travels she was always ready and willing to try new foods and was always interested in novel plants. She made the best Polish dishes and pies and when asked for her recipes would say “Oh, just add and mix until it feels right” a really frustrating situation for budding chefs!
One of her favorite forms of relaxation was to go berry picking - especially strawberries or blueberries.
All through her life, she enjoyed her crafts that included quilting, knitting and especially her well-known Santas and Easter Bunnies, which were often ordered months in advance.
She was always very generous with the time and efforts. She always looked forward to donating her pies and crafts to organizations such as Sunnyview Nursing Home to raise money for their special needs.
Katherine and John were also longtime members of the Keystone Squares where they thoroughly enjoyed their square dancing. One of the high points of their square dancing was the opportunity to be in San Antonio, Texas for the national convention in 1973.
Katherine was an excellent seamstress and she made all of her square dancing dresses as well as John’s decorative shirts.
