Vincent R. Kuharic

Vincent R. Kuharic, 88, most recently residing at Sherwood Oaks Nursing Home in Cranberry Township, formerly of New Castle Road in Butler, died Saturday evening, Nov. 30, 2002.

Born Sept. 27, 1914, in Monessen, Pa., he was a son of the late Paul and Anna Uhelova Kuharic.

He moved to Butler in 1924 when his father purchased a farm in Mount Chestnut. At age 12, he plowed his father’s fields behind a horse and mule on the farm. There he found numerous Indian arrowheads in the furrows, because the farm was on an old Indian encampment.

During the Depression he and his brothers introduced stock celery to the Pittsburgh farmer’s market to help provide for his family. He purchased greenhouses on New Castle Road before entering the U.S. Navy.

When returning from World War II, he raised potted plants and cut flowers in the greenhouses until he eventually became a florist at the same location as Kuharic Florist in Butler Township. He operated the business until he was no longer able in 1998.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 866 in Butler, F.T.D., and other flower wire services, and was a past president of the Western Pennsylvania Teleflora Wire Service.

Mr. Kuharic was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

Surviving are two sons, Vincent G. Kuharic of Meredith, N.H., and James Kuharic of Vinton, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Alexander (Anne) Robertson of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Patricia Strobel of Butler; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary T. (Hickey) Kuharic. She died July, 10, 2002. He was also preceded by two brothers, Paul and Joseph Kuharic.

KUHARIC - Friends of Vince Kuharic will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., with the Rev. Harry Bielewicz officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery following the Mass.

Members of the Knights of Columbus Council 866 will meet at 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home to recite the rosary.

St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday at the Church to recite the rosary.

Robert B. ‘Robby’ Wilbert

Robert B. “Robby” Wilbert, 22, of Butler died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born June 5, 1980, in Natrona Heights, he was a son of Robert H. and Mildred M. Mohan Wilbert.

He was a construction worker for a number of construction companies in the past four years and enjoyed listening to music.

Surviving are his parents of Butler; a brother and a sister, Jason A. and Jessica E. Wilbert, both of Butler; his paternal grandmother, Edith M. Wilbert of Carbon Center; and his maternal grandparents, Wilbert L. and Joann Mohan of Butler. A nephew and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME is handling arrangements.

Earl D. Montgomery

Earl D. Montgomery, 85, formerly of Orr Avenue in Kittanning, died Tuesday at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Kittanning.

Born Jan. 2, 1917, in Cowansville, he was the son of John D. and Anne Pearl Younkins Montgomery.

He retired as an auto mechanic at Schenley Distillery after 38 years. He also owned Montgomery Confectionery in Wick City, Armstrong County.

Mr. Montgomery was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church of Kittanning, the Kittanning VFW Post, Hose Company 6, Slate Lick League of Arts and the Pine Creek Sportsman’s Lodge.

He was a World War II Army veteran and enjoyed fishing and playing country music on the violin and guitar.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Howard (Cheryl) Quinn of Evans City, Ms. Nancy Pinkerton of Kittanning and Ms. Carol Rodnicki of Spring Church; two brothers, George and Derwood “Bud” Montgomery, both of Spartansburg, Pa.; and a sister, Ruby Hawkins of Kittanning. Six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

His wife of 57 years, Mary L. Smith Montgomery, died May 13, 1997. Four sisters and two brothers also preceded him in death.

MONTGOMERY - Friends of Earl D. Montgomery, who died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at KENNEDY & BLODGETT FUNERAL HOME, 253 N. Grant Ave., Kittanning. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Art Seaman, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington.

Memorial donations may be made to the Orphans of the Storm, R.R. 8, Kittanning, PA 16201.

Alvin ‘Jack’ McClelland

Alvin C. “Jack” McClelland, 81, of Pine Township, Mercer County, died at 2:12 p.m. Monday at Orchard Manor in Pine Township.

Born in Raymilton, Venango County, Feb. 6, 1921, he was the son of Frederick and Arvilla Perrine McClelland and grew up in the Children’s Home in Lewisburg.

A graduate of Mercer High School, he retired from the housekeeping department at United Community Hospital, Grove City.

Mr. McClelland was a member of the North Liberty Presbyterian Church since 1952. He was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and a supporter of the church baseball team. He was a 32nd degree Mason at the Cedar Lodge 800 of Grove City and a member of the New Castle Consistory, American Legion Post 393 of Slippery Rock and a life member of the VFW Post 11449 of Harper, Kan. He was an avid bowler.

He was a pharmacist mate in the Navy Medical Corps during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia June Land McClelland; four daughters, Mrs. Edward (Alice) Edminston of Hudson, Mass., Mrs. Ted (Juanita) Attard of Granger, Ind., Sara Webster of Corsica and Mrs. Richard (Mary) Wallace of Butler; and two sisters, Martha Miller of St. Cloud, Fla., and Caroline Berry of New Castle. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

McCLELLAND - Friends of Alvin C. “Jack” McClelland, who died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at North Liberty Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jerry Mahaffey officiating. Burial will be at North Liberty Cemetery .

Memorial donations may be made to the Food Pantry, c/o Grace United Methodist Church, 210 S. Broad St., Grove City, PA 16127; or to the Grove City Historical Society, 111 College Ave., Grove City, PA 16127.

Mary DeMarco Ley

Mary Donina DeMarco Ley, 95, died Tuesday at Concordia Nursing Home, Cabot.

Surviving are a son, Thomas Ley of Butler; two sisters, Christine Sarsfield and Angeline Buchovecky; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was the wife of the late Wilbert E. Ley. Five brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.

LEY - Friends of Mary Donina DeMarco Ley, who died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and Thursday at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, 4900 Centre Ave. at Devonshire Street, Pittsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Cathedral, Oakland.

Dolores C. Kasper

Dolores C. Kasper, 88, of Marshall Township, formerly of Harmony, died Tuesday at UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless.

Born Sept. 2, 1914, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of John J. and Louise Stritzinger.

She was a member of St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church, Zelienople.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Norman (Iris) Sturgess of Marshall Township, Mrs. William (Joan) Steffler of Fombell and Mrs. R. Edward (Donna) Kellerman of Butler; a son, Terry Kasper of Ontario. Canada; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Paul H. Kasper, whom she married May 25, 1937, died Jan. 20, 1988. Two sons, three sisters and six brothers also preceded her in death.

KASPER - Friends of Dolores C. Kasper, who died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, will be received from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. There will be no visitation on Thanksgiving Day A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church, Zelienople. The Rev. Charles Bergman will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Gregory Cemetery , Zelienople.

Memorial donations maybe made to Zelienople Area Public Library, 227 S. High St., Zelienople, PA 16063.

Clifford A. Kamerer

Clifford A. Kamerer, 71, of Butler died at 3:29 p.m. Saturday at his home.

Born March 8, 1931, in Perry Township, Armstrong County, he was the son of David Edward and Bertha Rebecca Bowser Kamerer.

Surviving are four sisters, Dorothy J. Caldwell of Fenelton, Anne Boyd of Ravenna, Ohio, and Rose Thompson and Mrs. David (Ida “Peg”) Smith, both of Butler; and four brothers, William, Tom and Andy Kamerer, all of Butler, and Frank Kamerer of Grove City.

A sister and two brothers preceded him in death.

KAMERER - A memorial service for Clifford A. Kamerer, who died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at WILLIAM F. YOUNG, JR. FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St. The Rev. Sherry Cook will officiate. Private burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.

Martha R. Miller

Martha R. Miller, 81, of Harrisville died at 7:43 a.m. Wednesday at her home.

Born May 1, 1921, in Fuller, Jefferson County, she was the daughter of Adam Dinsmore and Ella E. (Wolfe) Dinsmore.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Anthony (Joan) Kearney of Harrisville; three sons, Donald F. Miller and Ronald E. Miller, both of Harrisville, and Garry L. Miller of Mercer; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin M. “Tank” Miller, whom she married May 25, 1939, and who died Nov. 1, 1981; a sister and two brothers.

MILLER - Friends of Martha R. Miller, who died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at JAMISON FUNERAL HOME, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harrisville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Willard S. Morse, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Prairie Cemetery in Harrisville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Harrisville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 424, Harrisville, PA 16038.

Pila U. Silagyi

Pila U. Silagyi, 76, of Jefferson Township, formerly of Natrona Heights and Lafayette, Colo., died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Jefferson Township, where she had been a resident for the last four years.

Born Jan. 11, 1926, in Brackenridge, she was the daughter of Antonio Urbano and Placeres (Navas) Urbano.

Mrs. Silagyi retired after 20 years from Follensbee and Gruner Distributing in Sharpsburg, where she was an accountant. She was also a former flight attendant for TWA.

She was a member of Our Lady Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Worship Site.

A 1943 graduate of Har-Brack High School, she was also a graduate of Robert Morris College.

She was an avid tennis player and member of the Monroeville Racquet Club.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Scot T. (Cindy A.) Cameron of Clinton Township, Saxonburg; and two sisters, Joann Nicassio of Penn Hills and Mrs. Bob (Josephine) Morgan of Lafayette.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Silagyi, who died in 1989; and a sister, Manola Falsetti, who died in 1992.

SILAGYI - Friends of Pila U. Silagyi, who died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at DUSTER FUNERAL HOME, Tenth Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 315 Stoneyhollow Road, Cabot. The Rev. Michael P. Greb will officiate. A private burial will be held at Mount Airy Cemetery in Natrona Heights.

Billy H. Badger

Billy H. Badger, 81, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Portersville died Wednesday at home.

He worked as a supervisor for Westinghouse in Columbus, Ohio, until his retirement in 1976.

He and his wife then moved to Glendale, Ariz., where they have resided since 1976.

Mr. Badger was an active member of the Northwest Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, LoRetta Badger; three sons, Bill Badger of Laurelville, Ohio, Richard Badger of Brooksville, Ky., and Ray Badger of Show Low, Ariz.; two daughters, Linda Skufza and Nancy Lopez, both of Glendale, Ariz.; three sisters, Melissa Allen, Edis Horn and Doris Schaab; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and three brothers.

BADGER - Friends of Billy H. Badger, who died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Northwest Baptist Church, Phoenix. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Northwest Baptist Church, 6701 North 43rd Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85019.
