Buena A. Craig

Buena A. Craig, 84, of Millers Eddy, near Parker, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Millers Eddy on Jan. 25, 1918, she was the daughter of Milton and Pearl Barger Shakley.

She was a lifelong member of the Petrolia Presbyterian Church.

A 1936 alumna of Karns City High School, she was a homemaker.

Her husband, Paul C. Craig, whom she married June 29, 1938, at her parents’ home in Millers Eddy, died Aug. 25, 1971.

Surviving are a son, Dana C. Craig of Nevillewood; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Lewis of Chicora R.D. 1; and six nieces and nephews.

CRAIG - Friends of Buena A. Craig, who died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at RICHARD D HILLIS FUNERAL HOME, Petrolia. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Petrolia Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Rowe officiating. Burial will follow at Bradys Bend Cemetery .

James Richard Burris

James Richard Burris, 70, of Renfrew died Wednesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Pittsburgh.

Born in Butler, Oct. 14, 1932, he was the son of Nora Atkinson Burris and the late James R. Burris.

A graduate of Butler High School, he had worked in the paint shop at Pullman Standard and later was a driver at Butler Auto Auction.

Mr. Burris was a lifelong member of the Grace Lutheran Church and was one of the founders of Camp Lutherlyn.

He was a disabled veteran and a life member of the Joseph T. Black VFW Post 249 and the American Legion Post 117.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy L. Burris, whom he married Oct. 19, 1977; four daughters, Mrs. William (Diana) Kapp of Cabot, Melody Eppenger of Salt Springs, Fla., Kimberly Burris of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Mrs. Harry (Tina) Osche of Fenelton; three sons, James H. Burris of Orange, Calif., Michael Burris of Oceanside, Calif., and James R. Davis of Harrisville; and 11 grandchildren.

His mother of Butler; a brother, John Burris of Venice, Fla.; and a sister, Nancy Madison of Connoquenessing, also survive.

BURRIS - Friends of James Richard Burris, who died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Tim Bupp, his pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Butler Township.

Memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 220 W. New Castle St., Butler, PA 16001.

Mildred E. ‘Midge’ Baker

Mildred E. “Midge” Baker, 79, formerly of Carrie Way and East Main Street in Grove City, died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday at Grove Manor in Grove City after a two-year illness.

Born in Irwin Township, Venango County, June 11, 1923, she was the daughter of James E. and Edna Daugherty Adams.

A graduate of Harrisville High School, she was a homemaker and had retired as an office clerk and cashier at the A&P supermarket in Grove City.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the Harmony United Presbyterian Church of Harrisville.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Donna J.) Perrine of Jackson Center; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Irvin (Eldene) Cookson of Grove City, Marian Smith of Butler and Mrs. Lee (Irma) Schroeder of Sinton, Texas; and two brothers, J. Shirl Adams of Grove City and Randy Adams of Erie.

Her first husband, Perry L. McFadden, whom she married March 22, 1958, died April 21, 1981; and her second husband, Charles H. “Jim” Baker, whom she married June 27, 1983, died Oct. 3, 2000. A sister and two brothers also preceded her in death.

BAKER - Friends of Mildred E. “Midge” Baker, who died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. John McElwain, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.

Lillian Alma Woolley

Lillian Alma Woolley, 92, of Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center near Sligo, formerly of Perryville in Clarion County, died of natural causes at 1:15 a.m. Thursday at the center.

Born Sept. 6, 1910, in Cherry Run, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Willis and Della Slaughenhoupt Stewart.

Mrs. Woolley had been a clerk at the J&M Market in Parker for years and was a member of the Perryville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Eunice Aaron of Clarion; five grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.

Her husband, Glenn J. Woolley, whom she married Dec. 24, 1937, died Aug. 13, 1987. A son, three sisters and three brothers also preceded her in death.

WOOLLEY - Friends of Lillian Alma Woolley, who died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, will be received from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at H. JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, Wayne Street, Parker. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Arnold Rhodes, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Clarion, will officiate. Burial will be at Perryville Cemetery near Parker.

Memorial donations may be made to Perryville United Methodist Church, R.D. 1, Parker, PA 16049.

Shirley Evans Cubbison

Shirley Evans Cubbison, 72, of Farmington, N.Y., died Tuesday evening in Victor, N.Y., after a long illness.

Born in Pittsburgh, Jan. 27, 1930, she was the daughter of Harvey and Marion Evans.

A 1948 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, she graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College, now Slippery Rock University, in 1952 and had taught high school and middle school English and history in the Slippery Rock School District from 1950 to 1986. She also was a frequent faculty adviser to student theatrical performances, newspapers and literary publications.

Like her husband, she nurtured a strong interest in American history, nature and the environment and served several years as an adviser to the Old Stone House Chapter of the Pennsylvania Junior Historians. She also was a board member of the Associates of the Old Stone House.

She authored “Andy Over the Schoolhouse,” a book-length history of one-room schools in Butler County; co-authored a monograph on grist mills of Slippery Rock Creek; and most recently with Cindy Stouffer, she authored “A Colonel, A Flag, and A Dog,” the history of Sally the mascot of the 11th Pennsylvania Infantry in the Civil War.

Following her retirement, she was active in community affairs in Slippery Rock, where she played an instrumental role in the revitalization of the town’s Veterans Memorial Park and facilitated the move of a historic one-room schoolhouse to Slippery Rock University. As a resident of Gettysburg, she regularly volunteered at Strawberry Hills Nature Center, Fairfield. While in Farmington, she volunteered at F.F. Thompson Hospital.

Mrs. Cubbison lived in Slippery Rock for nearly 40 years and in Gettysburg for 10 years. She also lived in Mount Pleasant, Tenn. and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.

Her husband, William Charles Cubbison of Franklin, whom she married Dec. 24, 1950, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas Cubbison of West Point, N.Y., and Chuck and Cheri Cubbison of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Daniel Frye of Farmington; two brothers, R.C. Evans of Glendale, Ariz., and Charles Evans of Biglerville, Adams County; and a foster son, the Rev. Robert Kaylor and his wife Jennifer. Six grandchildren also survive

CUBBISON - Friends of Shirley Evans Cubbison, who died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Slippery Rock United Methodist Church. Her foster son, the Rev. Robert Kaylor will officiate. Burial will be at East Unity Cemetery , Cherry Valley.

Ethel G. Sumney

Ethel G. Sumney, 95, of Autumn Grove Care Center in Harrisville, formerly of Butler, died Thursday at the care center.

Born Aug. 15, 1907, in Worthington, she was the daughter of William G. and Rachel McElhaney Sumney.

She had worked as a housekeeper for the Hugh McGuire family in Butler for more than 30 years.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

Surviving is a brother, William Sumney of Chicora; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A sister preceded her in death.

SUMNEY - Friends of Ethel G. Sumney, who died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Harry Beilowicz, pastor of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery .

Lena Sequite

Lena Sequite, 88, of 408 Brown Ave., died Friday evening at Sunnyview Home, following an illness.

Born in Butler on June 22, 1914, she was the daughter of Luther and Annie Harbst Dickey.

A homemaker, she was formerly employed by Sunnyview Home in the housekeeping department, retiring Jan. 26, 1978, after 10 years.

An avid golfer and bowler, Mrs. Sequite loved all sports and enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

She belonged to numerous bowling leagues and was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

Surviving are a son, Anthony C. Sequite of Butler; two sisters, Mrs. Martha (Tootsie) Walker of Verona and Mrs. Anna Campbell of Slippery Rock; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Anthony D. Sequite, died May 25, 1969.

A brother and two sisters also preceded her in death.

SEQUITE - Friends of Lena Sequite, who died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave., Butler. There will be no visitation on Sunday. Blessing services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Dolan, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery .

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Butler County Humane Society, 1027 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.

Ruth I. Rodgers

Ruth I. Rodgers, 81, of 610 E. Main St. Ext., Grove City, died at 8:22 a.m. Friday at Orchard Manor in Pine Township after an extended illness.

Born in Harrisville on May 13, 1921, she was the daughter of William G. and Elsie Hummel Stillwagon.

She was a homemaker and had worked for the former Bashline Hospital in Central Supply, retiring in 1979. She had also worked as a beautician.

Mrs. Rodgers was a member of East Main Presbyterian Church in Grove City and a former member of VFW Post 519 Auxiliary in Grove City, Republican Women and the Mercer County Hairdressers Association.

She had worked as an Avon representative for many years and enjoyed cooking and sewing.

Surviving are her husband, John L. Rodgers of Grove City, whom she married Aug. 2, 1939; two daughters, Elaine K. Lehman of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Vivian R. Hartle of Grove City; two sons, Marvin L. Rodgers of Grove City and Rodney K. Rodgers of Harrisville; three sisters, Shirley Agostino and Patricia Flynn, both of Harrisville, and Delores Lucas of Grove City; two brothers, Robert Stillwagon of Grove City and James Stillwagon of Harrisville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, three brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

RODGERS - Friends of Ruth I. Rodgers, who died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald C. Hoagland, pastor of East Main Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be at Crestview Memorial Park in Grove City.

Layla Lee Domhoff

Layla Lee Domhoff, 12 days old, of Zelienople died Thursday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born Oct. 26, 2002, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Jeffrey L. and Lorraine Bungar Domhoff.

In addition to her parents of Zelienople, she is survived by three sisters, her twin Lia R. Domhoff and Kaylan C. and Kirstan L. Domhoff at home; her paternal grandmother, Patricia A. Caccia of Ellwood City; her maternal grandparents, Daniel W. and Kim Bungar of Harmony; her maternal great-grandfather, William Bungar of Butler; and her maternal great-grandmother, Amelia Bungar of Slippery Rock.

DOMHOFF - Friends of Layla Lee Domhoff, who died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. John W. Seth, pastor of Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church, officiating. Private burial will be at the English Lutheran Church Cemetery in Zelienople.

John H. Zambroski

John H. Zambroski, 87, of 111 Central Drive died at 9:59 a.m. Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital following complications from hip surgery.

Born in Butler, Oct. 23, 1915, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Zambroski.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1975 as assistant postmaster at the Butler Post Office.

Mr. Zambroski was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and a life member of the Butler Country Club and the Moose Lodge 64. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge 170, American Legion Post 117, Joseph T. Black VFW Post 249 and the Knights of Columbus. He was the past director of the Pennsylvania Federation of Clubs and was the current secretary-treasurer of the local Federation of Clubs.

He was a distinguished disabled veteran serving in Army Co. G, 179th Infantry Division during the Rome-Arno Campaign in World War II. He received many military citations, including the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Williams Zambroski, whom he married Oct. 22, 1961; two sons, James Patrick Zambroski of Louisville, Ky., and Richard W. Zambroski of Red Lion, York County; a daughter, Mrs. Drexel (Laurel) Johnson of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Four sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

ZAMBROSKI - Friends of John H. Zambroski, who died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery .

The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday at the church to recite the rosary.
