Blanche G. Brown

Blanche G. Brown, 76, of 231 Maple Street, Kittanning, died Wednesday at Sugar Creek Rest, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.

Born April 19, 1925, in Sagamore, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of Robert T. and Thelma McMillen Smith.

She had worked in the dietary department at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Kittanning.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Kittanning.

She enjoyed bingo, crafts and playing cards at the senior center.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel C. Brown whom she married Nov. 10, 1944; a son, Daniel O. Brown of Worthington R.D. 2; a brother, Jack Smith of Brook Park. Ohio; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Dorothy) Domen and Mrs. James (Grace Ann) Lach, both of Cleveland, Ohio.

A brother preceded her in death.

BROWN - Friends of Blanche G. Brown, who died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at BAUER FUNERAL HOME, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning. Visitation also will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Faith Presbyterian Church, Kittanning, where services will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. William King, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Kittanning Cemetery , Rayburn Township, Armstrong County.

Paul W. Best

Paul W. Best, 88, of Fombell died Wednesday at his home.

Born July 1, 1913, in Lancaster Township, he was the son of Sidney and Jennie McCollough Best.

Mr. Best was a member of Victory Assembly of God, Coitsville Township, Ohio.

He retired from US Steel’s National Tube Works in 1975.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret E. Lintz Best, whom he married Sept 16, 1935; a son, Paige W. Best of Fombell; four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Joan) Copeland of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. William (Connie) Tucker of Edinburg, Mrs. Benjamin (Barbara) Aiken of Portersville and Mrs. James (Faith) Kneal of Clarksville, Md.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A son, a sister and a brother preceded him in death.

BEST - Friends of Paul W. Best, who died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at GLENN-KLIDOO FUNERÀI HOME, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Victory Assembly of God, 3899 McCartney Road (Route 422), Coitsville Township. Ohio. The Rev. David Thomas and the Rev. Fred Baer, church pastors, will officiate. Burial will be at Grace Bible Church Cemetery , Harmony.

Viola M. Schwenke

Viola M. Schwenke, 92, of Mars, formerly of Wexford and Beechview, died early today at LAS/St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars after an illness.

Born in Pittsburgh, Nov. 11, 1909, she was the daughter of Frederick and Lena Ebling Murray.

She retired as a seamstress at Hughes & Hatcher department store, Pittsburgh.

Surviving are a son, Ronald Schwenke of Mars; 10 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, William C. Schwenke, whom she married Feb. 29, 1928, died in September 1973. Two sons also preceded her in death.

SCHWENKE - Friends of Viola M. Schwenke, who died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at McDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. The service will follow at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery .

Nedra B. Murray

Nedra B. Murray, 92, of Knox, Clarion County, died Jan. 14, 2002, at Clarion Hospital.

Born Jan. 18, 1909, in St. Petersburg, Clarion County, she was a daughter of Elmer E. “Ben” and Pearl Fillman Brown.

Mrs. Murray was a homemaker and seamstress and enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening.

She was a member of the Edenburg Presbyterian Church and the Knox Civic Club.

Surviving are a stepson, Ralph Murray Jr. of Oxnard, Calif.; and two step-grandchildren. A sister, June Hutchinson of Butler; two brothers. Tom B. and Don B. Brown, both of Butler; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Her first husband, Raymond C. Morgan, whom she married Feb. 22, 1937, died July 28, 1943; and her second husband, Ralph “Mutt” Murray, whom she married July 28, 1950, died Nov. 17, 1983. Four sisters and a brother also preceded her in death.

Services were at DAVID C. McENTIRE FUNERAL HOME Knox. Burial was at Knox Union Cemetery .

Memorial donations may be made to Edenburg Presbyterian Church, Knox, PA 16232; or to the American Heart Association.

Ralph ‘Bud’ Sandbach Jr.

Ralph “Bud” Franklin Sandbach Jr., 63, died at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sugarcreek Rest Home in Worthington.

Born Feb. 22, 1938, in Butler, he was the son of Ralph Franklin Sandbach Sr. and Mabel Claire Craig.

He had worked as a custodian for the Butler School District, retiring in July 2000, after 30 years.

Mr. Sandbach attended the Cornerstone Baptist Church and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

He was an Army veteran, and he had been active in the Butler Little Theater.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Herman (Naomi) Werksman of Penn Hills and Mrs. Mary M. Simmons, of Grove City; a niece; and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a nephew.

SANDBACH - Friends of Ralph “Bud” Franklin Sandbach Jr., who died Thursday Jan. 24, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Neyman, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ralph F. Sandbach Scholarship Fund, 120 Campus Lane, Butler, PA, 16001 or to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 771 Mercer Road, Butler, PA, 16001.

Reed H. ‘Pete’ Saul

Reed H. “Pete” Saul, 87, of Evans City died Saturday at his home.

Born Feb. 21, 1915, in McKeesport, he was the son of William J. and Emma (Diven) Saul.

Mr. Saul was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, and he was a member and past commander of Evans City VFW Post 419.

Mr. Saul was a coal miner, retiring from the Bethlehem Mines in 1980, where he also was captain of the mine rescue team and head of the safety committee.

Mr. Saul is survived by his wife Esther Saul, whom he married on Nov. 11, 1982; three daughters Patricia Kugel of Southaven, Miss., Virginia Morgan of Evans City, and Diane Bowman of Oveida, Fla.; stepchildren, Judith Skupnik, Kathryn Moldovsky, Lorraine Baker, and Ron, Louis, Robert, Mary, Thomas and David Kobet; 27 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Saul was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen Saul, who died in 1980, and a son.

SAUL - Friends of Reed H. “Pete” Saul, who died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 116 E. Main St., Evans City, where a blessing service will follow Monday at 9 p.m. with Fr. William J. Ritzert, pastor of St. Matthias Church, Evans City, officiating. Burial will be in the Evans City Cemetery , Evans City.

George W. Reamer

George W. Reamer, 91, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Norwalk, Ohio, died Saturday.

Born July 21, 1911, in Butler County, he was the son of Henry and Gertrude Hickey Reamer.

He had been a blacksmith at Brooker Brothers in Norwalk and attended the Calvary Baptist Church, Norwalk.

Surviving are three sons, George L., William and Sam Reamer, all of Norwalk; and four daughters, Grace West and Linda Ferguson, both of Toledo, Janet Hetrick of Oakdale, Conn., and Suzanne Hestermann of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He also is survived by 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

His wife, Anna Wise Reamer, whom he married Feb. 21, 1934, in Butler County, died March 22, 2002. Three brothers and a grandson also preceded him in death.

REAMER - Friends of George W. Reamer, who died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, 250 Benedict Ave., Norwalk, where services will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. James McClain and the Rev. Romyne Strickland will officiate. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery , Norwalk. FOOS-KLEIN FUNERAL HOME, Clyde, Ohio, is handling arrangements.

Ida May Piroth

Ida May Piroth, 66, of Cranberry Township died Friday at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born May 15, 1936, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Walter and Myrtle (High) Carothers.

Mrs. Piroth was a Methodist.

She worked for the Cranberry Eagle delivering papers.

Surviving are her husband, Robert J. Piroth, whom she married March 4, 1964; a son, David William Piroth of Cranberry Township; two sisters, Wilma Haas of Ohio and Nancy Carothers of the North Hills; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter.

PIROTH - Friends of Ida May Piroth, who died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park.

Velma M. Stevenson

Velma M. Stevenson, 79, of 427 New Castle Road died at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Autumn Grove Care Center, Harrisville.

Born in Beaver Township, Clarion County, Nov. 5, 1922, she was the daughter of Irwin J. and Goldie Erene Long Barnett.

She was a homemaker and had worked at Spaide Shirt Factory in Butler.

Mrs. Stevenson was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women and was a former Sunday school teacher. She also belonged to the Women of the Moose, Lodge 260; Tanglewood Senior Center; 60 Plus and the 60 Plus Bowling League; and the American Association of Retired People. She was a former Girl Scout leader.

She enjoyed traveling and was an avid bingo player.

Surviving are her husband, Wilbur Stevenson, whom she married June 22, 1985; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Shirley) Lawrence and Mrs. Mark (Susan) Gutshall, both of Butler; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister, Guy and Kenneth Barnett and Mrs. Dorothy Motter, all of Knox, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Brown, who died Jan. 27,1973; six brothers; and two sisters.

STEVENSON - Friends of Velma M. Stevenson, who died Friday Jan. 18, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 205 N. Duffy Road. The Rev. Oden Warman, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.

John V. Skendall

John V. Skendall, 88, of Shaler Township died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Massachusetts on Oct. 11, 1913.

Mr. Skendall had been a safety engineer for an insurance company.

His wife, Margaret E. Dunn Skendall, preceded him in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Bernot of Butler and Mary Mahoney and Ann Teele; and a son, John F. Skendall.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated today at St. Bonaventure Church, Glenshaw, with the Rev. George Newmeyer, church pastor, officiating. Burial was at Mount Royal Cemetery , Glenshaw.

Arrangements were handled by BOCK FUNERAL HOME, Glenshaw.
