Robert G. McCall, 70, of Butler died at 4 a.m. Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born July 7, 1931, in Meridian, he was the son of John M. and Anna Dumplex McCall.
He was a Protestant.
Mr. McCall retired from Local 47 of the Steamfitters and Pipefitters after 50 years.
He was a member of the Butler Moose and Slovak Club. He also was an avid NASCAR fan, bowler and golfer and enjoyed traveling in his RV.
Surviving are his wife, Miriam Jones McCall, whom he married Aug. 30, 1975; a daughter, Debra McCall of Southampton, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Nancy Miskow of Meridian; two stepsons, Renwick Brewster of Green Bay, Wis., and Drew Brewster of Houston, Washington County; and five grandchildren. A brother, John M. McCall II of New Bern, N.C., and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A brother preceded him in death.
McCALL - Friends of Robert G. McCall, who died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St. The funeral service will follow at 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

Jean E. Wright Palmer
Jean E. Wright Palmer, 62, of Dacono, Colo., formerly of Hooker, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, of natural causes.
Born in Providence, R.I., Jan. 6, 1940, she was the daughter of Helen Beatrice Nelson Martin and the late William Kenneth Martin.
She was a Lutheran.
Mrs. Palmer was a seamstress and enjoyed sewing as a hobby.
Surviving are her husband, Francis Eugene “Wally” Palmer; a son, Michael K. Wright of Hooker; two daughters, Mrs. Timothy (Cheryl) Hughes of Hilliards and Mrs. Allen (Christine) Boyd of Kennerdell; six grandchildren; two stepdaughters; and a stepson. Her mother of Warwick, R.I.; and a brother, William Martin of Warwick, also survive.
Visitation and funeral service will be announced pending her arrival in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Frederick A. Miller
Dr. Frederick A. Miller, 92, of Murrysville, formerly of Wilkinsburg, died Tuesday at Lancaster General Hospital, while visiting his daughter.
Born Feb. 16. 1909, in Butler, he was the son of Michael and Regina Mathes Miller.
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, he served his internship at South Side Hospital. He then was a pediatric resident at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine from 1938 to 1940 and was chief resident at Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh from 1940 to 1941.
Dr. Miller joined the pediatric practice of Dr. E.R. McCluskey in Pittsburgh in 1946. In 1964, he established a private practice at Penn Center in Wilkins Township and was a staff pediatrician at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, West Penn Hospital and Magee Women’s Hospital. He also was an adjunct professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania medical societies, the American Medical Association and the American College of Pediatrics.
He served as a major in the Army-Air Force from 1943 to 1946.
He was an avid fisherman and gardener.
Surviving are his wife, Lydia M. Elder, whom he married Jan. 6, 1940; a son, Frederick A. Miller. Jr. of Mt. Lebanon; a daughter, Lydia M. Lutz of Lancaster County; three grandchildren, and a sister, Katherine Bomyea of Southgate, Mich.
MILLER - Friends of Dr. Frederick A. Miller, who died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Jefferson Memorial Park Office Chapel, 401 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh. A blessing service will be private.

Helen Loretta Lackey
Helen Loretta Lackey, 85, of Baytree Lane died of natural causes at 7:20 a.m. Thursday at the Chicora Medical Center.
Born in Butler County, Jan. 12, 1916, she was the daughter of Charles E. and Julia A. Rodgers Haas.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church of Carbon Center and a 45-year member of the Bowbenders Card Club.
Mrs. Lackey attended St. Paul Catholic School.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thomas B. (Sue Ann) Gutherie of Butler; two sons, William C. and Donald D. Lackey, both of Butler; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Charles Edward Lackey, whom she married Oct. 26, 1935, at St. Paul Catholic Church, died Dec. 8, 1988. A great-granddaughter and a sister also preceded her in death.
LACKEY - There will be no visitation. Following cremation, a memorial service for Helen Loretta Lackey, who died Jan. 10, 2002, will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, Carbon Center. The Rev. Michael Maramowski will officiate.

Walter ‘Red’ Glodowski
Walter “Red” Glodowski, 85, of Harwick, Springdale Township, Allegheny County, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh.
Born Dec. 31, 1916, in Harwick, he was the son of Stanley and Rosalie Figura Glodowski and was a lifelong resident of the Harwick area.
He had been a coal miner for Duquesne Light Co. at its Harwick Mine and retired in 1977. He later worked at Satellite Alloy, Springdale.
Mr. Glodowski was a member of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, the United Mine Workers of America and the Polish Club, all of Harwick.
He enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving are a son, Larry Glodowski of Fenelton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A brother, Joseph Gladowski of Harwick, also survives.
His wife, Helen Muroski Glodowski; a son; and two brothers preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian burial was held today at Our Lady of Victory Church. Burial was at Deer Creek Cemetery , Harmar Township, Allegheny County.

Thomas Mawhinney Sr.
Thomas E. Mawhinney Sr., 59, of Middlesex Township, died Monday afternoon at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital, Aspinwall, after an illness.
Born in Oil City, Dec. 5, 1942, he was the son of Robert Mawhinney and Dorothy Ley Mawhinney Fuls.
He was a delivery driver for United Parcel Service in Aliquippa and was a member of Local 261 of the Teamster’s Union in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Mawhinney was a member of the Clinton Presbyterian Church USA, Butler American Legion Post 117 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 957 of Harmony.
He was a Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn “Katie” Jones Mawhinney, whom he married May 13, 1965; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Tracey) Goupil of Butler; two sons, Thomas E. Mawhinney Jr. of Portersville and Joseph W. Mawhinney of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. James (Nancy) McKrell of Russellton and Mrs. Robert (Janet) Ludwick of Inman, S.C.; two brothers, the Rev. James Mawhinney of Lakeland, Fla., and Robert Mawhinney of Edgewater, Fla. Six grandchildren.

Raymond L. Lucas
Raymond L. Lucas, 61, of North Washington Road, Fairview, died at 5:35 a.m. Monday at Sugar Creek Rest, near Worthington, after a long illness.
Born in Butler, July 23, 1940, he was the son of Purl and Helen E. Riggle Lucas.
He was educated in the Karns City School District and was a switch technician at Sprint for 36 years.
Mr. Lucas was a Protestant and was a member of Victory Lodge 694 F&AM of Butler.
He was an avid citizens band radio operator and was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League and the Ham Emergency Radio Group. He operated under the call sign W3RAY.
He served with the Army in Vietnam, Thailand and Iceland and retired in 2001 as a technical sergeant in the Air Force Reserves after 33 years.
Surviving are a son, Michael L. Lucas of Prospect; a daughter, Mrs. Greg (Raelee) Emslie of Cranberry Township; and four grandchildren. A brother, Terry E. Lucas of Karns City; a sister, Mrs. Audrey L. Burchardt of Butler; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Two sisters preceded him in death.

Jessie C. Johnston
Jessie C. Johnston, 78, formerly of Forestville, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Orchard Manor, Grove City.
Born Jan. 2, 1924, in Clay Township, she was the daughter of Christian and Amy Young George.
She was a housekeeper at Bonetti Health Care, now Autumn Grove Care Center, in Harrisville and a cook at the former Dot and Ron’s Restaurant in Grove City.
Mrs. Johnston was a member of the Forestville United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the women’s group and the adult Sunday school class.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gary L. (Donna L.) Fitzingo of Boyers, Mrs. Gerald (Cathy J.) McCurdy of New Castle and Tracey L. Johnston of Latham, N.Y.; a son, Terry W. Johnston of Grove City; two sisters, Dorothy Mershimer of Butler and Margaret V. Ritenour of Forestville; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Deloss E. Johnston, whom she married May 5, 1942. Also preceding her in death were a son, a brother and a great-grandchild.

Flossie S. McMillin
Flossie S. McMillin, 87, of Roanoke, Va., formerly Hillville, near Parker and Melbourne, Fla., died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter in Roanoke.
Born in East Butler, April 25, 1915, she was the daughter of John Alfred and Bessie Alice Shakely Snyder.
She was a member of the Harbor City Christian Church in Melbourne and a 50-year member of the Order of the Easter Star Chapter 230 of New Bethlehem.
Mrs. McMillin had worked in the cafeteria at Sabal Elementary School in Melbourne for 40 years and retired at the age of 74.
Surviving are two sons, James Willis McMillin III of Edinburg and John Alfred McMillin of Melbourne; two daughters, Ruth Ann McConnel of Melbourne and Mary Alice Hull of Roanoke. Nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Her husband, James Willis McMillin II, whom she married June 20, 1934, in New Castle, died April 29, 1959. A brother and a sister also preceded her in death.

Paul Roger Betty
Paul Roger Betty, 78, of Prospect died Sunday at the Autumn Grove Care Center in Harrisville.
Born April 6, 1923, in Butler, he was the son of Wasyl and Helen Shpak Betty.
He was a 1942 graduate of Butler High School, where he played football and basketball. He also played basketball for the YMCA and was an assistant coach.
Mr. Betty was a 36-year employee of the Metallurgical Department of Armco-Butler Works.
He served in the Medical Corps of the Army during World War II.
He was Catholic and was a member of the Slovak Club, the Italian Club and the YMCA.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Bartley Hixson Betty, whom he married Aug. 23, 1973. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Paula) McKee of Butler; three sons, Roger, Bruce and Brant Betty, all of Butler; a stepdaughter, Jane Hixson of Evans City; a stepson, Robert Hixson of Prospect; three sisters, Ann Youshaw and Catherine Chenot, both of Butler, and Nell Lester of California; a brother, Peter Betty of Butler; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
