Catherine J. Walker, 99, of Sunnyview Home died at 8:25 p.m. Thursday at the home.
Born Feb. 18, 1902, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Mark and Delia Laffey Burke.
Mrs. Walker had been a buyer for the stationery department for the former Rosenbaum’s Department Store in Pittsburgh. She also been worked at Bell Telephone in Pittsburgh.
She was a member of St. Pauls Roman Catholic Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Samuel (Margaret) Bello of Butler; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Walker, who died in 1983; a son; four sisters, and four brothers.

Lisa Ann Sutton
Lisa Ann Sutton, 42, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Evans City, died on Dec. 30, 2001, at her home.
Born Nov. 7, 1959, in Butler, she was the daughter of Nancy Hesselgesser Sutton and the late James E. Sutton, Jr., who died Saturday.
She had been an office worker.
She was an avid reader and a member of the Support Group of Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala.
She was a member of the College Church of Wheaton, Ill.
She is survived by her mother of Ocala, with whom she made her home; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ruth Hesselgesser of Gibsonia, formerly of Marwood; three brothers, James E. Sutton III of Haltom City, Texas, David E. Sutton of Clintonville and Lorin P. Sutton of Clovis, Calif.; two aunts, and nine cousins.

William A. McCafferty
William A. McCafferty, 70, of Freeport Road, Butler, died Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born March 13, 1931, in Sarver, he was the son of Arthur and Margaret Hilliard McCafferty.
Mr. McCafferty was a superintendent for Ross and Kennedy Corp. in Pittsburgh for 35 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Covenant United Presbyterian Church in Butler. He also belonged to the Carpenters Union Local 500 in Butler.
Mr. McCafferty enjoyed remodeling and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Clark McCafferty, whom he married Dec. 8, 1950; a daughter, Mrs. William (Deborah) Rhodaberger of Tecumseh, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Jack (Florence) Bouch of Sarver; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a grandson.

Mary Rusnock Bogany
Mary Rusnock Bogany, 94, of Brady View Manor in East Brady, formerly of New Kensington, died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1908, in Dunlevy, Washington County, she was the daughter of Michael and Mary Krause Rusnock.
Except for the past five years, she lived in New Kensington her entire life, and she was a member of the All Saints Roman Catholic Church of Arnold and the Ladies Aide Society of the church.
She enjoyed baking and cooking.
Surviving are two sons, J. Thomas Bogany of New Kensington and R. Lawrence Bogany of Leechburg; two daughters, Phyllis Lampo of Karns City and Marion Campitella of Eighty Four; and a sister, Margaret Rusnock of Erie. Nine grandchildren and 13 grandchildren also survive.
Her husband, John G. Bogany, died in 1982. Six brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.
A blessing service was held this morning at JOHN F. KRUPA FUNERAL HOME, New Kensington. A Christian funeral Mass followed at All Saints Church, Arnold. Burial was at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery , Lower Burrell.

Mary Margaret Denniston
Mary Margaret Denniston, 87, of Portersville died at 11:45 p.m. Friday at the Sunnyview Home in Butler.
Born May 10, 1914, in Allegheny County, she as the daughter of Arthur Garfield and Lyla Mae Strohm Johnson.
She was a homemaker and a Protestant.
Mrs. Denniston in survived by five daughters, Clara Mae Nossek of Pittsburgh, Margaret Marie Conrad of Salinesville, Ohio, Laura June Basham of Grove City, Dorothy Louise Duperault of Texas, and Mary Elizabeth Mowry of Hammond, Ind.; three sons, Thomas Arthur Denniston of Portersville; Charles Howard Denniston of Prospect and Bernard James Denniston of Butler and a sister, Elma Evans of Mercer. Also surviving are a sister, Elma Evans of Mercer; 18 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Clifford Denniston, whom she married Nov. 23, 1937, and who died July 9, 1979, two sisters and a brother.

Esther A. Bell
Esther A. Bell, 92, formerly of Villa Drive, Butler, died Saturday morning at the Chicora Medical Center.
She was born on Jan. 10, 1909, in Butler, the daughter of Walter Albert and Theresa Hilderbrand Lucas.
A homemaker, Mrs. Bell worked as a cashier at the Woolworth store on Main Street for 30 years until her retirement in 1951.
She was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian and a life member of the Christian Mothers organization at St. Fidelis. She also belonged to the American Association of Retired Persons.
Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Bell, who died Sept. 29, 1994; two brothers; and four sisters.
BELL - Friends of Esther A. Bell, who died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Helen ‘Delores’ Trofimuk
Helen “Delores” Trofimuk, 85, of Howard Street died at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. John Specialty Care Home, Mars.
Born in Butler, Oct. 18, 1916, she was the daughter of George and Lola Woodworth Faber.
Mrs. Trofimuk had worked as a sales clerk in the ladies dress department at Troutman’s department store on Main Street for years.
She was a lifelong member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Butler.
She enjoyed bowling and had been in various bowling leagues.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond E. Trofimuk, whom she married June 9, 1937; a daughter, Mrs. John (Brenda) Sloboda of Butler; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Rook of Butler; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a niece; a nephew; and a cousin.

Jack Leroy Snyder
Jack Leroy Snyder, 38, of 408 Virginia Ave. died at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the emergency room of Butler Memorial Hospital from natural causes.
Born Aug. 11, 1963, in Butler, he was a son of William and Alice Barger Snyder.
He was a 1982 graduate of East Brady High School and was employed as a roofer.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Snyder; two sons, Sean Snyder, at home, and Troy Scott of Butler; two daughters, Tasha Snyder, at home, and Samantha Snyder of Chicora; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Norma Matuke of Butler; three brothers, William and Harry Snyder, both of Karns City, and Richard Snyder of North Washington; three sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Cindy) Slagle and Mrs. Patrick (Peg) Claypoole, both of Bruin, and Mrs. Ralph (Faye) Claypoole of Petrolia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Carl E. Shields, businessman; volunteer
Carl E. Shields, 94, of St. Barnabas Village, formerly of Butler, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Passavant Hospital, McCandless.
Born Jan. 8, 1907, in Edgewood, he was the son of Charles Garfield Shields and Ella Glasser Shields.
In 1933, he established Carl E. Shields & Co., an insurance office, in the Nixon Hotel and expanded into real estate after receiving his real estate license in 1940. He is credited for the development of McQuistion Manor, Northvue and the Meadowood residential plans. He served 11 years on the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission, where he helped formulate many procedures still in place today.
He also was active with the International Real Estate Federation, was a past president of Butler County Board of Realtors and vice president of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors-District 7. He wrote a weekly promotional column, “Chili” - for hot news - in the Butler Eagle for more than 15 years, beginning in the late 1940s.
Mr. Shields was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 313 of Indiana, Pa., and Syria Temple.
In the Butler community, he served on committees for the city planning commission, the American Cancer Society and the boards of directors for the Butler Library, Chamber of Commerce and YMCA. He also sponsored a Girl Scout troop.
In 1984, he was presented with the Chamber of Commerce President’s Award, and he recently was honored as Realtor Emeritus by the local, state and national associations of Realtors.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie Van Stone Shields, whom he married June 16, 1933; two daughters, Sandra Miles of El Paso, Texas, and Mrs. William (Mary Ellen) Carpenter of Las Vegas; a son, C. Edwin Shields of Butler; and a brother, Theodore Shields of Portland, Ore. Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Elsie L. Trusel Reno
Elsie L. Trusel Reno, 99, of Portersville died at 11 p.m. Saturday at the Golden Hill Nursing Home.
Born July 31, 1902, in Rose Point, Lawrence County, she was a daughter of James and Jemima Rodgers Ramsey.
She was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in the Slippery Rock area from 1921 to 1924. After that, she married and became a homemaker.
She was one of the first graduates of the Slippery Rock Normal School.
She was the oldest member of the Oak Grove United Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by six daughters: Mary Cross and Margaret Newton, both of Ellwood City, Elsie Kerr of New Castle, Barbara Dymond of Falls, Pa., Kathy Jartz of Chicago, and Joyce Mulhollen of Evans City; four sons, the Rev. James Trusel of Beaver Falls, Robert Trusel of Portersville, and James Reno and Jon Reno, both of Ellwood City; numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Harry Trusel and Howard Reno.
Also preceding her in death were three sisters and a brother.
