Marion S. Sargent, 84, formerly of Aliquippa, died Tuesday at Valencia Woods Nursing Center.
Born July 31, 1918, in Aliquippa, she was the daughter of John Budd and Mary Elizabeth Galbreath Scott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John K. Sargent, who died on June 11, 2001.
She is survived by her son, Kent Sargent of New York City, and a daughter, Melinda Sargent of Alma, Mich.
SARGENT - Friends of Marion S. Sargent, who died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the HUNTSMAN ALIQUIPPA FUNERAL HOME, 2345 Mill St. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday. A private burial will be at Allegheny County Memorial Park.
Verna A. Shanor
Verna A. Shanor, 85, of Butler died at 1:25 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at the Sunnyview Nursing Home after an illness.
Born March 4, 1916, in Butler, she was the daughter of Otto and Louisa Schenck Fleske.
Mrs. Shanor was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a cousin, Nancy Campbell, with whom she made her home for 21 years; and a brother, John Fleske of Butler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Richard Shanor, who died Aug. 29, 1965; a sister; and three brothers.
There was no visitation and services were private. Arrangements were by Young Funeral Home in Butler.
Ambrose C. Elliott
Ambrose C. Elliott, 90, of 178 Bell Road, Wolf Creek Township, Mercer County, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday at his home after a brief illness.
Born in Slippery Rock Township, March 24, 1911, he was the son of Brose C. and Lottie Louise Hockenberry Elliott and the stepson of Boyd Wilson.
He retired after more than 62 years as a self-employed farmer. He also had been a Wolf Creek Township supervisor.
Mr. Elliott was a member of the Wayside Community Church of Findley Township, Mercer County.
He is survived by four children, Evelyn G. Blom, Mrs. Richard C. (Patricia A.) Bicehouse and Donald E. Elliott, all of Grove City, and Mrs. William (Shirley L.) Jenkins of Sandy Lake; four stepchildren, Mrs. William (Evelyn) Habel and Mrs. Edward (Jennifer “Jenny”) Klink, both of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Rebecca “Becky” Horstman of Colorado and Leonard J. Martin of Cranberry Township; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
A half brother, John E. Wilson of Grove City and of Bradenton, Fla., also survives.
His first wife, Grace Ellen Campbell Elliott, whom he married Dec. 25, 1933, died July 20,1982; and his second wife, Grace Houston Martin Elliott, whom he married Feb. 10, 1985, died June 26, 1995. A grandson also preceded him in death.

Ila Irene Kennedy
Ila Irene Stuckie Beighey Kennedy, 86, formerly of Prospect, died early Tuesday morning at LAS Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople.
Born July 24, 1915, in Connoquenessing, she was the daughter of Annie Stuckie.
A graduate of Slippery Rock College, she taught for 38 years in many one-room schools in what is now the Slippery Rock and Butler school districts.
She was a member of the Mount Nebo Presbyterian Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She also belonged to the Senior Citizens of Prospect and the Butler Teachers’ Association.
She is survived by a son, William Beighey of Butler; three daughters, Mrs. David (Jean) Ziegler of Evans City, Mrs. Ronald (Judy) Hirtzy of Gibsonia and Pamela Sue Kennedy of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray W. Beighey, who died Dec. 25, 1947; and her second husband, Lloyd D. Kennedy, whom she married Aug. 21, 1953, and who died Feb. 26, 1998.
KENNEDY - Friends of Ila Irene Stuckie Beighey Kennedy, who died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at EDWARD L. RAISLEY FUNERAL HOME, 387 Main St., Prospect. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Daniel Reuter will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.
Ryan James McCaffrey
Ryan James McCaffrey, 16, of Prospect died Tuesday from injuries in a two-vehicle accident in Slippery Rock Township.
Born Dec. 27, 1985, in San Angelo, Texas, he was the son of Patrick Joseph McCaffrey and Brenda Andrie Lentz.
He was a member of St. Christopher at the Lake Catholic Church in Prospect and belonged to the Faith Fellowship Alliance Church Youth Group in Butler.
He was a sophomore at Slippery Rock High School and was a two-year letterman in the marching band, where he was in the drum line. He was also in the percussion section of the Concert Band and belonged to the Spanish Club, the stage crew and enjoyed his ceramic classes. He was a former member of the Slippery Rock Junior High football and track teams.
He was employed at the Clearview Mall Eat ‘N Park.
He also had been a member of the Prospect Boys and Girls Club, where be had played football and baseball.
He enjoyed skate boarding, snow boarding and video games and was an Oakland Raiders’ fan.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Peter “Chief’ and Brenda Lentz, with whom he made his home; his father and his father’s fiancée, Patrick McCaffrey Sr. and Beverly Landis of Sarver; five brothers, Patrick Jr. and Sean McCaffrey, both at home, Peter Lentz of Fort Bragg, N.C., Christopher Lentz of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Joseph Landis of Sarver; and two sisters, April Lentz of Germany and Jennifer Landis of Sarver.
His maternal grandparents, Richard and Joyce Andrie of St. Cloud, Minn.; his paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Philomena McCaffrey of Youngstown, Ohio, and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Adam J.P. Protzman
Adam J.P. Protzman, 16, of Franklin Township died at 12:28 p.m. Tuesday from injuries in an automobile accident.
Born March 19, 1985, in Butler, he was the son of Gary Allen and Sue Ann Bartley Protzman.
He was a sophomore at Slippery Rock High School, where he was active in the Spanish Club and the Landscaping Club
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Garrah Lynn Protzman at home; his grandparents, Stanley and Pauline Bartley of Butler; and an uncle.

Joseph R. Vedilago
Joseph R. Vedilago, 18, of Seldom Seen Lane, Slippery Rock, died at 12:28 p.m. Tuesday from injuries he suffered in a car accident.
Born July 2, 1983, in Queens Borough, New York, he was a son of John Vedilago and JoAnn Johnson Ferguson.
He was a senior at Slippery Rock High School, where he belonged to the marching band, drama club, soccer team and leadership council.
He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock.
He is survived by his mother of Slippery Rock; his father of Gotenberg, Sweden; a brother, John Vedilago of Slippery Rock; a sister, Sarah Ferguson of Slippery Rock; and paternal grandparents, Bernard and Elizabeth Ferguson of Westerly, R.I.
VEDILAGO - Friends of Joseph R. Vedilago, who died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock. The Fr. James Armstrong, pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be private.
Robert L. Young
Robert L. Young, 70, of Butler died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 4, 1931, in Wilkinsburg, he was the son of Harry Lester and Alma Hawbaker Young.
He was a member and elder of the Calvary Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he was on the board of trustees and in the chorus. He was a life member of the Butler Elks Lodge 170 and a former member of the United Commercial Travelers.
A graduate of Wilkinsburg High School and Slippery Rock University, he received his master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and taught in Jefferson Township schools. He later was a principal in the Fox Chapel School District in Allegheny County and at the Clearfield and Oakland Township schools in Butler County.
He retired as a sales representative with Silver-Burdett-Ginn, a textbook company.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce A. Humes Young, whom he married June 11, 1955; two daughters, Michele Young of Butler and Debbie Young of Atlanta; a son, Robert H. Young of Butler; two sisters, Elisabeth Young and Mary Louise Oberlin, both of Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren.
A sister preceded him in death.

Lisa Ann Sutton
Lisa Ann Sutton, 42, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Evans City, died Sunday at her residence.
Born Nov. 7, 1959, in Butler, she was the daughter of James E. and Nancy Hesselgesser Sutton.
She was a member of the College Church of Wheaton, Ill. She was an office worker and was an avid reader. She was a member of the Support Group of Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala, Fla.
She is survived by her parents, with whom she made her home; three brothers, James E. Sutton III of Haltom City, Texas, David E. Sutton of Clintonville and Lorin P. Sutton of Clovis, Calif.; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ruth Hesselgesser, Gibsonia, formerly of Marwood; two aunts; and nine cousins.
SUTTON - Friends of Lisa Ann Sutton, who died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the KINSEY-VOLZ FUNERAL HOME, Evans City. Services will follow at noon Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffrey MacKay of First Baptist Church, Evans City, officiating. Burial will be at Evans City Cemetery .
The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be directed to the attention of Jim Lyons at Epilepsy Services of North Central Florida, Gainesville, Fla.
Michael L. Stepp
Michael L. Stepp, 88, of 110 Bellefield Drive, Butler Township, died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.
Born in Butler, June 25, 1913, he was the son of Michael and Mary Petrun Stepp.
He had worked in the finishing department at Armco-Butler Works and retired in 1975 after 42 years.
Mr. Stepp was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Butler Armco Vets Club and a life member of the Butler City Hunting & Fishing Club and the National Rifle Association.
He was a World War II veteran of the Army’s 9th Air Corps.
Surviving are a son, Richard L. Stepp of Gainesville, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard A. (Carolyn) Heck of Wellsboro, Tioga County; four grandsons; a great-grandson; two nieces; and a nephew.
His wife, Estella Pearce Stepp, died Aug. 15, 1987. A sister also preceded him in death.
