Leonard G. Anderson

Leonard G. Anderson, 73, of Renfrew died Saturday at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh from injuries he received in an automobile accident on Route 8 in Middlesex Township.

Born Aug. 27, 1928, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of Charles and Elvira Mattson Anderson.

He owned Mr. Leonard’s Beauty Salon in Allison Park for more than 40 years.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was active in the Marine Corps League, Three Rivers Leatherneck Detachment.

He was a life member of the Pittsburgh VFW Post 278.

He was a life member and official for the Steel City Region of the Sports Car Club of America. He also was a life member of the North Hills Sports Car Club and a life member of the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Christensen Anderson, whom he married Sept. 28, 1963.

Also surviving are two sons, Gregory Anderson of Cranberry Township and Chris Anderson of Renfrew; a daughter, Eileen Hanger of Chaska, Minn.; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

ANDERSON - Friends of Leonard G. Anderson, who died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Toys for Tots program.

Mary A. Armstrong

Mary A. Armstrong, 88, a resident of the Lowrie House Assisted Living home in Butler, died there Saturday.

She was formerly of West Diamond Street and also formerly of Bry-Mor Court in Butler.

Born April 11, 1913, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of John and Mary Hayes McNamara.

She was secretary for her husband when he was an alderman in Butler and also when he worked as the first district justice for the City of Butler until his death.

In 1971, she became secretary for the Butler County Detective Office until her retirement in 1979.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

Surviving are two sons, John H. Armstrong of Indiana, Pa., and Brian “Corky” Armstrong of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard “Pooch” (Patricia Ann) Ordy of Butler; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Armstrong, who died Nov. 21, 1970.

She was also preceded in death by her companion of many years, Stephen J. Geibel, who died in 1989; and by two brothers and a sister.

ARMSTRONG - Friends of Mary Armstrong, who died Saturday, Dec. 29. 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery .

St. Paul’s Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday at the church to recite the rosary.

Carrie L. Snow

Carrie L. Snow, 86, of Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Grove City and formerly of Kennerdell, died at 11:10 p.m. Saturday at the nursing home.

Born Oct. 21, 1915, at Parkers Landing, Allegheny Township, Butler County, she was the daughter of Frank and Margaret Grossman Huff Sr.

She was a housewife.

She was a former member of the Church of God of Prophecy at Six Points, Butler County.

She attended Butler County schools and was a member of the A.A.R.P. of Clintonville.

She enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening and flowers.

She and her husband pumped oil in southern Venango County.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Esther) Turner of Butler and Judith Schrecengost of Hamburg, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon Snow, who died Oct. 29, 1981, and whom she married Jan. 27, 1932.

Also preceding her in death were three sons, a daughter, two sisters, and two brothers.

SNOW - Friends of Carrie L. Snow, who died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the LARRY E. MCKINLEY FUNERAL HOME, Clintonville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Patterson, chaplain of Orchard Manor, Grove City, officiating. Burial will be in the Allegheny Church Cemetery , Allegheny Township, Butler County.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Activity Fund at Orchard Manor, 20 Orchard Drive, Grove City, PA 16127.

Douglas J. Hart

Douglas J. Hart, 76, of Slippery Rock Borough died at 2:50 a.m. Sunday from an extended illness at Creek Meadows Assisted Care Facility in Zelienople.

Born July 30, 1925, in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of Douglas and Trixie Davidson Hart. He lived for more than 50 years in Hollywood, Calif., before moving back to Butler County.

He was a retired purchasing director for Warner Brothers Studio in Hollywood.

He also owned and operated his own business, The Back Lot, until 1999. His company sold movie memorabilia and movie scripts.

He was a Presbyterian.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Voss of Slippery Rock; a nephew, Douglas Voss of Harrisburg; two nieces, Dr. Erica Voss Meloy and Kerry Voss Smith, both of Harrisburg; and several cousins.

HART - Services for Douglas J. Hart, who died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The Rev. Donald Voss, his brother-in-law, will officiate. Burial will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery in Slippery Rock Township.

Elizabeth L. Yost

Elizabeth L. Yost, 84, of Summit Township died at 8:20 p.m. Sunday at UPMC Passavant Hospital.

Born July 10, 1918, in Chicora, she was the daughter of George and Anna Marie Wagner Lechner.

Mrs. Yost was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher and enjoyed quilting and baking.

She is survived by a son, George Yost of Butler; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Susan) Anderson of Prospect; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Yost, who died Dec. 28, 1998.

YOST - Friends of Elizabeth L. Yost, who died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Leseganich, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Gruenwald Cemetery .

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler, PA 16001.

Charles J. Cipra

Charles J. Cipra, 85, of Mars and formerly of St. Barnabas Village died Saturday at Fosnight Personal Care Home in Richland Township.

Born Sept. 16, 1916, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of Charles and Bohumelia Yelnika Cipra.

He worked for the Cement Mason’s Union Local 526 in Pittsburgh, where he was a member. He also owned the Wilkins Construction Co. in Homestead.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Perry Cipra, whom he married Aug. 22, 1940.

Also surviving are three daughters: Bonnie Weigand of Boca Raton, Fla., Mrs. William (Margaret) Hanlon of Mars and Mrs. John (Becky) Augustine of Louisville, Colo.; two brothers, Otto Cipra of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and George Cipra of Allison Park; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

CIPRA - Friends of Charles J. Cipra, who died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Gascoine, pastor of the Mars United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Allegheny County Memorial Park, McCandless Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mars United Methodist Church, Pittsburgh Street, Mars, PA 16046.

Ralph J. Beck Jr.

Ralph J. Beck Jr., 50, of Sheffield, Warren County, died Tuesday.

He was born Dec. 30, 1951, in Pittsburgh.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Beck; a daughter, Alisa Beck; a stepdaughter, Tammie Heasley; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Mary D. Beck, and a sister, Liane Wasson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph J. Beck Sr.

BECK - Friends of Ralph J. Beck Jr., who died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at NEELY FUNERAL HOME, 2208 Mount Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure Church, Glenshaw.

Leland L. Cooper

Leland L. Cooper, 76, of Cabot died Wednesday at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.

Born in Sarver, June 24, 1925, he was the son of Howard Albert and Alpha Lerner Cooper.

He retired from Du-Co Ceramics in Saxonburg in 1989 after 30 years as a tool and die maker and design engineer.

Mr. Cooper was a member and former elder of Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Co. and VFW Post 7376 and American Legion Post 683, both of Saxonburg.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

During World War II, he was an Army tank gunner.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Reedy Cooper, whom he married Sept. 21, 1946; a son, Howard W. Cooper of Cabot; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Diana) Weleski of Cabot and Ms. LuAnn Slater of Syracuse, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A brother, Reldon W. Cooper of Saxonburg and a sister, Mrs. Leona “Dolly” Murphy of Cabot also survive.

COOPER - Friends of Leland L. Cooper, who died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Brewer, his church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Saxonburg Memorial Church Cemetery .

Memorial donations may be made to Saxonburg Area Library, P.O. Box 454, Saxonburg, PA 16056.

Norma L. Snyder

Norma L. Snyder, 63, of Butler died of cancer at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 17, 1938, in Butler, she was the daughter of Grace Bicker Markovich and the late John Markovich.

She was a member and active volunteer at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her husband, Ronald R. Snyder, whom she married Oct. 12, 1956; a daughter, Mrs. David (Sharon) McAnallen of Karns City; a son, Ronald Snyder of Saxonburg; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Her mother and a brother, Ricky Markovich, both of Saxonburg, also survive.

A brother preceded her in death.

Private funeral services were held today at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME. The Rev. Philip Williams, her church pastor, officiated. Burial was at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.

David Harold Kniess

David Harold Kniess, 46, of Prospect died Tuesday morning at his home after an illness.

Born Oct. 17, 1955, in Butler, he was the son of Harold and Irene Pryor Kniess.

He was a journeyman electrician and member of Local Union 10. He was a member of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief for two years. He was a member of the Moraine Preservation Fund.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Nicodemus Kniess, whom he married Dec. 21.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael Thompson of Branchton and Clinton Warman, at home; three daughters, Amber Warman of Evans City and Kelly Kniess and Brittney Scherz, both at home; a brother, Randall Kniess of Butler; and three sisters, Sherry Stelter of Ellwood City, Pamela Kniess of Butler and Mrs. Dennis (Barbara) Kruetz of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Kniess.

KNIESS - Friends of David Harold Kniess, who died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at EDWARD L. RAISLEY FUNERAL HOME, 387 Main St., Prospect. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeffrey Curtis, pastor of Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Prospect. Memorial contributions can be made to the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department or the Moraine Preservation Fund, 118 Shore Drive, Portersville, PA 16051.
