Eugene Logan McCandless, 82, of Butler died Wednesday morning at Sunnyview Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Born in Mars, Jan. 1, 1919, he was the son of Floyd Milton and Maudella Pinkerton McCandless.
He was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church, where he had been a Sunday school teacher and an usher. He was a life member of Mars American Legion Post 787.
Mr. McCandless had been a produce manager at the A&P supermarkets in Butler.
He served as an Army technical sergeant during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was an animal lover and a member of the Butler County Humane Society. He also was an avid bowler and gardener.
Surviving are three nephews, Richard McCandless of Butler, Vincent McCandless of Forest, Va., and Robert McCandless of Mansfield, Ohio.
A sister and three brothers preceded him in death.
McCANDLESS - There will be no public visitation. A memorial service for Eugene Logan McCandless, who died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hill United Presbyterian Church. The Rev Clark Sawyer, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park & Mausoleum, Butler Township.

Ronald T. Padglek
Ronald T. Padglek, 57, of 688 Crisswell Road died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at the Oakland Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Pittsburgh.
Born in McKees Rocks, July 6, 1944, he was the son of Robert and Margaret Mahr Padglek.
He had been a self-employed courier.
Mr. Padglek was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Christine Thompson and Mrs. Gerald (Nicole) Campbell, both of Butler; a sister, Mrs. Michael (Doreen) Albin of Butler; a step-grandchild; and two nephews.
PADGLEK - Friends of Ronald T. Padglek, who died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, will be received from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave. A blessing service will follow at noon Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery , Allegheny County.
Clara E. Rodgers
Clara E. Rodgers, 94, of 236 S. Duffy Road died at 3:46 a.m. today at Butler Memorial Hospital after an illness.
Born in Wampum, Lawrence County, June 25, 1907, she was the daughter of Martin L. and Mary May Fosnaught Lawrence.
She retired as a dietician at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 1977 after 20 years. She formerly worked at Kraus’ Bakery on West Jefferson Street.
Mrs. Rodgers was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and a life member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Teresa M. Andras, Mrs. Lorraine C. Laconi, Mrs. Paul (Leona J.) Angert and Mrs. John (Bernice L.) Kuzio, all of Butler; two brothers, Leroy M. Lawrence of Owensboro, Ky., and Loyal Stevick of Lexington Park, Md.; and a sister, Mrs. Loretta Quigley of East Falmouth, Mass. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Rodgers, who died July 16, 1974. A son, a brother and a sister also preceded her in death.

Barbara L. Bowser
Barbara L. Bowser, 68, of Natrona Heights died unexpectedly at 10:40 a.m. Thursday at her home.
Born July 29, 1933, in Tarentum, she was the daughter of Michael A. Sr. and Stella A. Anicka Michalek.
A 1951 alumna of Tarentum High School, she was a homemaker and lived in Natrona Heights for the past 41 years. She also was an attendant in the operating room and worked in the housekeeping department at Allegheny Valley Hospital for a number of years.
Mrs. Bowser was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Worship Site of Natrona Heights. She was a member and treasurer of Citizens Hose Co. Auxiliary, Natrona Heights.
She enjoyed playing bingo.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Melvin H. Bowser; a son, Michael W. Bowser of Middletown, Pa., two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Lou Ann) Tack of Hummellstown, Dauphin County, and Sue A. Bowser at home; and three granddaughters. Three brothers, Michael A. Michalek Jr. of Plymouth, Mich., Frank J. Michalek of Butler and John J. Michalek of Baltimore, Md.; and two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Helen) Klucinec of Vero Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Andrew (Theresa) Ross of Melbourne Beach, Fla., also survive.
Two sisters preceded her in death.
BOWSER - Friends of Barbara L. Anne Marie Cronin
Anne Marie “Annie” Cronin, 45, of Churchton, Md., died of cancer Dec. 19, 2001, at her home after a 6-month illness.
She was born April 8, 1956, in Prince George’s County, Md.
Mrs. Cronin graduated from Duval High School, Maryland, in 1973 and was a hair stylist in Deale and Crofton in Maryland for more than 20 years.
She enjoyed skiing, boating, the beach, dancing and singing.
Surviving are her husband, Scott Allan Cronin, whom she married April 5, 1987; a son, Cory Allan Cronin, and a daughter, Shannon Ashley Cronin, both of Churchton; her parents, Glenn Rhodes Smith of Butler and Cleone Marie Smith-Dade of Churchton; a brother, Tom Smith of Historic Plant City, Fla.; and three sisters, Glenda Schaffner of Butler, Diane Alferez of Brandywine and Lisa Bates of Churchton.
Her first husband, Dennis Paul Griffin, died in 1982.
Burial was at Fort Lincoln Cemetery , Maryland.

Violet Marie Faley Muth
Violet Marie Faley Muth, 72, of Slippery Rock died Thursday morning at her daughter’s home following an illness.
Born Aug. 24, 1929, in Perth Amboy, N.J., she was the daughter of Andrew and Marie Faley.
From 1947 to 1960, she had been a bacteriology technician at Merck and Co. in Rahway, N.J.
She lived in Clark, N.J., until moving to Slippery Rock in 1984 and was an active member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Clark Post 328.
An avid bowler, she had been the New Jersey state champion in the B Division and was a member of the 600 Club at Majestic Lanes. She also enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Kathleen) Horvath of South Plainfield, N.J., and Mrs. Trevor (Susan) Hawley, with whom she made her home in Slippery Rock; and six grandchildren. Three sisters, Mary Paczkowski and Helen Erdek, both of South Amboy, N.J., and Ann Rex of Anaheim, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
MUTH - A memorial Mass for Violet Marie Faley Muth, who died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church, Slippery Rock. Burial will be in New Jersey.

Frank Jacob Wagner
Frank Jacob Wagner, 89, of Butler died Thursday at his home.
Born in Rayburn Township, Armstrong County, March 12, 1912, he was the son of John and Maude Schall Wagner.
He was a member of Center Hill Church of the Brethren, North Buffalo Township, Armstrong County.
Mr. Wagner had been a self-employed carpenter and farmer.
Surviving are four sons, Frankie Wagner Jr. of Worthington, Harold Wagner of Shawnee, Okla., Ken Wagner of Fredonia and Richard Wagner of Portland, Pa.; three daughters, Nancy Willyard of Worthington, Joyce Barnhart of Sykesville, Md., and Gloria Cogley of New Kensington; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild. Also surviving is his companion Veronica Holly of Butler.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iona Bowser, who died in 1975; two brothers; three sisters; and a great-grandchild.
WAGNER - Friends of Frank Jacob Wagner, who died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at F. Grace E. Young
Grace E. Young, 88, of Butler died at 9 p.m. Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 17, 1913, in Kittanning, she was the daughter of Clyde Cyrus and Beulah Maude Bowser Rumbaugh.
She had been a supervisor at Bantam Car Works and later for the Butler Association of the Blind.
Mrs. Young was a member of Tanglewood Senior Center.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Mrs. Bud (Jean) Wilkins of Lady Lake, Fla.; a sister, Esther Jamison of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Glover, who died Jan 6, 1963; her second husband, Henry Seifried, who died Nov. 24, 1967; and her third husband, William J. Young, who died Jan. 7, 1991. Three sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death.
YOUNG - Friends of Grace E. Young, who died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME 127 W. Richard Anthony Huff,
ex-county commissioner
Richard Anthony Huff, 73, of Butler died Thursday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital after an illness.
Born June 30, 1928, in Butler, he was the son of George Frank and Daisie Van Dyke Huff.
He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Prospect and a former member of the church council. He was a life member of VFW Post 249 and a member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association and the International Charolais Association.
He served as a Butler County Commissioner from 1982 to 1987, was a former committeeman and chairman of the Republican Party in Butler County and was a former Connoquenessing Township supervisor.
Mr. Huff retired from Armco-Butler Works after 32 years. He also owned and operated Rich-Mart Farms.
During the Korean War, he served with the Navy on the U.S.S. Los Angeles.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Hilliard Huff, whom he married Dec. 21, 1950; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Tamara) Rupert and Mrs. Melvin (Theresa) Dunlap, both of Butler; two sons, Timothy L. and Thomas D. Huff, both of Butler; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Geraldine Stephenson and Theresa Gold, both of Butler; and a brother, Paul Huff of Vero Beach, Fla.
Three brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.
HUFF - There will be no public visitation. A memorial service for Richard Anthony Huff, who died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 149 Church St., Prospect. The Rev Cary Brown, interim church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

William I. MacDonald
William I. MacDonald, 76, of Butler died Thursday at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born July 19, 1925, in Butler, he was a son of James W. and Florence Stover MacDonald.
He retired in 1972 as a crane operator in the open hearth at Armco-Butler Works after 26 years. He also was a part-time bartender at the Majestic, the Keg and the T-Bar in the Butler area for more than 20 years.
Mr. MacDonald was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman and a life member of Herman Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn C. Shuler MacDonald, whom he married July 14, 1949; three sons, David W. MacDonald of Butler, and Dennis J. and Gary L. MacDonald, both of Fenelton; a daughter, Julie A. Hook of Saxonburg; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
