Ada G. Hartzell, 85 of Chicora Medical Center, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 9:25 a.m. in Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born November 8, 1918 in Penn Township, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Harry A. Giles and Ethel West.
Mrs. Hartzell worked as a bookkeeper for R. W. McDonald and Sons retiring in 1983 after 22 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and former missionary treasurer of the church for 35 years and was former Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Hartzell is survived by three sons, Charles R. Hartzell, III of Wilmington, Delaware, Harry A. Hartzell of Bainbridge, Ohio, Martin E. Hartzell of Dayton, Tennessee, two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Judith) Entner of Malvern, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Anthony (JoAnn) Grus of Butler, Pennsylvania, Eleven Grandchildren, Twenty Great- Grandchildren, one brother, Merrill Giles of Butler, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hartzell was preceded in death by her husband Charles R. Hartzell, Jr., five brothers and 4 sisters.
Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend David Maitland Officiating. Interment will follow in Summit United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Saul Emigh
June 21, 1916 - March 27, 2004
Saul Emigh, 87 of Decatur Drive, Butler, died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 6:20 p.m. in Butler V A Medical Center.
Born June 21, 1916 in Penn Run, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Frank Emigh and Sarah Grey.
Mr. Emigh worked as the director of facilities for Butler County Community College retiring in 1982 after 15 years of service. He was a member of Christ Outreach Church. Mr. Emigh was an avid hunter, loved his family, sports fan, fisherman and enjoyed gardening. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army WW II involved in three major battles of the European operations; Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. He was injured in action and awarded the Purple Heart.
Mr. Emigh is survived by his wife, Marjorie Isobel Reighard Emigh, whom he marriage on February 15, 1945, by two sons, Frederick Mark Emigh of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Robert Saul Emigh of Butler, Pennsylvania, two daughters, Marjorie Joanne Yost of Butler, Pennsylvania, Joyce Elizabeth Moore of Butler, Pennsylvania, one sister, June Emigh of Clymer, Pennsylvania, six grandchildren; David and Stephen Goslaw of Butler, Pennsylvania, Rebecca Daw of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jared Emigh of Penfield, New York, Zachary and Nathan Emigh of Butler, Pennsylvania, six great-grandchildren; Brittany, Garett, Rachel and Rebecca Goslaw, Christopher and Madison Daw, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Emigh was preceded in death by his six brothers; Paul, Willis, Frank, Norman, Edward, and Ollie and four sisters; Ethel, Nora, Gertrude and Iva.
Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Christ Outreach Church, Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. David West officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Dorothy I. Kerr
June 13, 1917 - March 20, 2004
Dorothy I. Kerr, 86 of North Duffy Road, Butler, died Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 4:43 a.m. in Sunnyview Home.
Born June 13, 1917 in Millvale, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of John D. Pyle and Clara B. Johnston.
Mrs. Kerr was a homemaker. She was Baptist by faith. Mrs. Kerr was very artistic and enjoyed music, reading, gardening, cooking, playing games and doing puzzles.
Mrs. Kerr is survived by four daughters, Mrs. David (Joyce Ann) Carson of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Louise Yingling of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Paul (Marjorie Jane) Smith of Clarion, Pennsylvania, Marcia Jean Graham of Butler, Pennsylvania, one step-son, George K. Kerr of Butler, Pennsylvania, twenty grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, three great-great -grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kerr was preceded in death by her husband Merrill E. Kerr, who passed away on November 5, 1991, and by four brothers, three sisters, a grandson and a stepson.
Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Saturday, March 27, 2004 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. With the Reverend Sherry Cook from the Fenelton United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Bernice Jaffe Abes
January 19, 1913 - March 18, 2004
Bernice Jaffe Abes, 91 formerly of Margate, Florida and Butler, died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at 11:36 a.m. in Shadyside Hospital.
Born January 19, 1913 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Frank Jaffe and Sadie Diamond.
She was a former member of Congregation B'Nai Abraham and Sisterhood where she had been very active. She and her beloved husband Harry, of 65 years, resided in Butler, Pennsylvania until 1980 when they retired a moved to Florida. While in Florida, she became an active member of the City of Hope and a life member of Hadassah. She was an avid duplicate bridge player.
Surviving are Son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Tobi Abes of Canton, Ohio, Son, Edward Abes of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Daughter, Mrs. David (Karen) Bergman of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Seven Loving Grandchildren whom she was proud of, Sister, Mrs. LaRose Black of Butler, Pennsylvania, Sister-in-law, Gerry Jaffe of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Preceding her in death were her husband Harry Abes, who passed away on February 16, 2002?

Graveside Services will be held at B'Nai Abraham Cemetery, Sunday, March 21, 2004 at Noon with the Lay Leader Margo Maynard officiating. Interment will follow in B'Nai Abraham Cemetery.

Lena M. Atwell, 90 formerly of Butler, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 2:52 a.m. at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Wilmington, North Carolina.
Born April 18, 1913 in Callensburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of George C. Haldeman and Sadie Elnora Switzer Haldeman.
Mrs. Atwell was a retired self-employed grocer. She was a graduate of Butler High School. She was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church, Butler and Chapel by the Sea, Fort Myers, Florida. She made quilts all of her life and she was active with a quilting society in Florida.
Mrs. Atwell is survived by one son, Gary Atwell of Wilmington, North Carolina, three sisters, Virginia Powell of Canton, Ohio, Betty Richardson of Cape Coral, Florida, Patricia Ray of Alliance, Ohio, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great great Grandchild.
Mrs. Atwell is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Eakin Atwell, who passed away on June 24, 1997, and by one son and one brother.

Born November 12, 1926 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Graham and Blanche Long.
She worked as an examiner for Bobbie Brooks Co. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one son, Randy Graham of Butler, Pennsylvania, two grandsons, two sisters, Mrs. Goldie Hackett, and Mrs. Cora Lacheskey both of Butler, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her three brothers.
