Pearl Rice Mechling Simmons, age 94, of 136 Virginia Lane, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 2:58 a.m. in the U.P.M.C. Passavant North Hills.
Born August 22, 1913 in Donegal Township, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Viola Hoover Brooks.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker. She was employed at Scotts General Store in Fairview Township for 15 years. She was an aid for 2 years for the Karns City School District, as well as for the Butler Catholic School for 2 years.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by one son, Charles D. Rice and his wife, Ann, of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, one sister, Jessie Cumberland of Butler, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews. Sandra Merchant, her good friend and neighbor, one stepson, Dr. Randon Simmons and three step grandchildren, also survives her.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her three husbands, Edison C. Rice, Charles Mechling and Raymond Simmons, one daughter, Josephine Barger, two sons, Thomas E. Rice and Benjamin Rice, two granddaughters, Cheryl Kay Rice and Ellen Rice Carfano, two sisters, Catherine Noel and Dolly Holben and by one step-brother, Fred Brooks.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, January 14, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 from 10 -11 at the Fairview United Methodist Church.
Services will be held at the Fairview United Methodist Church following visitation on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Wade Berkey, her church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia, Pennsylvania.

Miriam Boyle Timblin

Miriam Boyle Timblin, age 84 of K & L Lane, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 5:05 p.m. in the U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital.
Born August 9, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Mervyn Boyle and the late Maude Woodburn.
Mrs. Timblin was a homemaker. She was an active member of Community Alliance Church, a former member of the choir, a member of the Alliance Women and a former deaconess.
Mrs. Timblin is survived by her husband, Clarence "Curly" L. Timblin whom she marriage on November 12, 1971, and by four daughters, Mrs. Roger (Karen) Wells of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Konny Wellington of San Pablo, California, Mrs. Harry (Gloria) Frenchak of Spring Branch, Texas, Mrs. Sandra Amos of San Antonio, Texas; four sons and their wives, James and Janice Brys of Warren, Pennsylvania, Ronald and Dorothy Brys of Austin, Texas, Randy and Patti Timblin of Pipe Creek, Texas, Richard and Diane Timblin of State College, Pennsylvania; eighteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Timblin was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 12, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Community Alliance Church, Mercer Road, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Dennis Krajacic of officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Royal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Alliance Church, Building Fund, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
Carol E. Jacobs
July 15, 1934 - January 9, 2008
Carol E. Jacobs, age 73 of Lincoln Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 3:25 p.m. at her residence.
Born July 15, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Roy Fennell and the late Genevieve Buchanan Fennell.
Mrs. Jacobs was a clerk for Department of Motor Vehicles. She was protestant by faith.
Mrs. Jacobs is survived by her two daughters, Tracey and Michael Newhart of Butler, Pennsylvania, Elaine Butler and her fiancé Larry Gaiser of East Brady, Pennsylvania; by eight grandchildren: Miriah, Eli, Angelina, Eric, Joshua, Cameron, Jeremy, and Lyndsay, and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jacobs was preceded in death by her first husband, Vincent Surra who passed away on January 13, 2004 and also by one sister and two brothers.
There will be no public visitation or service. Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania.
Oscar W. Oertel
July 10, 1924 - January 8, 2008
Oscar W. Oertel, age 83 of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at 12:45 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born July 10, 1924 in Herman, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Oscar C. Oertel and the late Rose Martha King Oertel.
Mr. Oertel was a Punch Operator for Pullman Standard for over 20 years until it's closing. He was a member of the Connoquenessing United Methodist Church. Mr. Oertel enjoyed gardening and camping.
Mr. Oertel is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Carrie E. Kidd Oertel whom he marriage on April 3, 1946, by his three sons, William A. and Darlene Oertel, Douglas W. and Linda Oertel, Perry L. Oertel of all of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania; his daughter-in-law, Kay A. Oertel of West Sunbury; two granddaughters, several step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Powell of Butler, Pennsylvania, Martha and Clyde Allison of Prospect, Pennsylvania; his adopted sister, Mildred and Rocco DiFonso of Jeannette, Pennsylvania and also by his three dogs, Bud, Tipper and Coy.
Mr. Oertel was preceded in death by his son, Larry E. Oertel, his brother, Alfred Oertel, his sister, Betty Brown and his adopted brother Harold West.

Audrey M. Bable, age 74, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 8:30 a.m.
Born August 29, 1933 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Carl A. and Marie E. Klepper Pflugh.
Mrs. Bable was a member of Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker. She had been employed at W.T. Grant Store in Butler, Pennsylvania as a clerk. She retired in 1994 as a tester for Magnetics.
She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida as well as camping with her friends.
Mrs. Bable is survived by her husband, Lee O. Bable whom she marriage on May 24, 1955; one son, Randall L. Bable of Kaufman, Texas; one daughter, Patricia D. Harmon and her husband, Paul of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Cassie and Corey Bable, Amanda, Joseph and Emily Harmon; one sister, Ruth A. Simmons of Butler, Pennsylvania; three brothers, A. Richard Pflugh, Carl A. Pflugh, and Ronald L. Pflugh all of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Betty S. Hutchens
August 9, 1925 - January 4, 2008
Betty S. Hutchens, age 82 of Easton, Pennsylvania, formerly of Butler and Oil City, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday, January 4, 2008 at 10:50 a.m. at The Moravian Village in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania of complications from cancer.
Born August 9, 1925 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Vincent H. Stevens and Twila Hoy Stevens.
Mrs. Hutchens was a graduate of the Kittanning High School, class of 1943. She retired from Pullman-Standard in Butler were she was a bookkeeper. Mrs. Hutchens was a former volunteer at Oil City Hospital, a teacher's aide at Oil City Public School, and volunteer for meals on wheels and the American Cancer Society. She also served Christ in many ways, she supplied bible tracts at the Union 76 Truck Plaza in Bloomsbury, Pennsylvania, she attended bible studies, served as a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Alter Guild at Good Hope Lutheran Church, Oil City, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Hutchens is survived by her husband William B. Hutchens whom she marriage on August 10, 1945 in Victoria, Texas, by one son, Scott A. Hutchens of Trexlertown, Pennsylvania, by one daughter, Joy A. McCreary and her husband Jeffrey of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania by one sister, Jane L. Stevens of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one brother Bob L. Stevens and his wife Cathy of Green Valley, Arizona, by four grandchildren, William McCreary, Jocelyn McCreary of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, David Hutchens and Rachel Hutchens of Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Friday, January 11, 2008 from noon until 1:00 p.m.
Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Tim Bupp of Grace@ Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.
