Virginia D. Jewell, age 95, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at 11:40 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born July 7, 1912 in Connoquenessing Township, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Murl and Mattie Doutt Dumbaugh.
Mrs. Jewell was Protestant by faith.
Mrs. Jewell was a homemaker. She was a life member of the Tanglewood Senior Center and of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks. She also enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and ceramics.
Mrs. Jewell is survived by one son, Rex A. Jewell, Jr. of Butler, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Billie J. Morabito and her husband, Vito, of Butler, Pennsylvania, Nancy G. Sarver of Butler, Pennsylvania; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren; one brother, Max Dumbaugh of Pinnellas Park, Florida; two sisters, Pauline Fair of Naples, Florida, and Frances Donnel of Butler, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jewell was preceded in death by her husband, Rex A. Jewell, Sr. who was deceased on May 12, 1970 and also by one daughter, one great grandchild, four sisters and three brothers.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8.
Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 following visitation at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Ralph Link, retired minister, officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
Tom E. Ross
December 1, 1931 - January 22, 2008
Tom E. Ross, age 76 of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 5:00 a.m. in the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on December 1, 1931, he was the son of the late Wesley Ross and Rose Gearhart Ross.
Mr. Ross was a 1949 graduate of Butler High School, while in high school he worked as a soda jerk for the Cummings Candy Store. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. He marriage Lynn Ross on February 24, 1952 and retired as the Treasurer and Controller for Ocean Technology Corporation in Los Angeles, California.
He is survived by his wife Lynn Ross, one daughter, Pat Ross of California and one sister, Betty LaMar of Antioch, California, one grandson, Michael Ross of Easton, Pennsylvania and one daughter-in-law Kathy Ross of Easton, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by a son Robert Ross and a grandson Cory Ross.
Private services were held in Las Vegas.

Robert E. Thomas
September 26, 1925 - January 24, 2008
Robert E. Thomas, age 82, formerly of Mercer Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, Twelve Oaks, Sanford, Florida, New Haven Court of Butler and Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg Pennsylvania, was called to his Eternal Home with our Lord and Savior Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 1:25 p.m. at the Butler Veterans Medical Center under hospice care.
Born September 26, 1925 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Earl Snee and Olga Meier Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the Merchant Marines serving during World War II. He retired from Pullman Standard as the district sales manager.
He was a charter member and the first lay leader of Christ Community United Methodist Churchin Butler, Pennsylvania. While living in Florida, he was ordained as an elder in the Upsala Presbyterian Church in 2001.
He was active in the community were he served as a scoutmaster for Troop 13 for five years. He spent fifteen years on the Butler Township Water and Sewer Authority. He was a life member of the Pittsburgh Traffic Club. He was a member of the Miller Lodge #769 F. & A.M. and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was past member and officer of the American Rabbit Breeders Association and Butler Rabbit Club. He was a charter member of Mercer Road Fire Company.
Mr. Thomas is survived by three sons, Robert E. Thomas, Jr. and Terry L. Thomas both of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Barry D. Thomas of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Connie Shatz of Rockford, Michigan and Cathie York of Leesburg, Florida; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
His wife, whom he was marriage for fifty-eight years, Catherine Audrey Deer Thomas, deceased in 2001, a brother Earl and a grandson Scott R. Thomas, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at the Christ Community United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Lisa Grant, his church pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Community United Methodist Church, 205 North Duffy Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
Mary Esther Halstead
March 8, 1922 - January 26, 2008
Mary Esther Halstead, of East Cruikshank Road, Valencia, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 4:45 a.m. in the U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital.
Born March 8, 1922 in Penn Township, Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late William S. Cruikshank and the late Esther E. Maharg Cruikshank.
Mrs. Halstead was an elementary school teacher for Mars Area School District and formerly worked in the Butler County Commissioners office in the 1940s. She was a member of Glade Run United Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Halstead was active with her church, serving as an elder, singing in the choir and in the missionary society. Mrs. Halstead was a member of the Women's Club of South Butler County, the Grove City Women's club and a member of the PSEA.
Mrs. Halstead is survived by her sister, Margery Bish of Butler, Pennsylvania; by eleven nieces and nephews, nineteen grand-nieces and nephews, and by a number of cousins.
Mrs. Halstead was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Halstead who passed away on October 18, 2005.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 7 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Thursday, January 31, 2008, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church.
Services will be held at the Glade Run United Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Greg Weist of Glade Run United Presbyterian Church officiating.

Thomas W. Rowe, Jr.

Thomas W. Rowe, age 51 of Claytonia Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, January 28, 2008 at 12:54 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
Born December 26, 1956 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Thomas W. Rowe, Sr. and the late Bessie Nehls Rowe.
Mr. Rowe worked in the slab grinder department for AK Steel. He attended Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church. Mr. Rowe was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Mr. Rowe is survived by his wife, Donna Heckert Rowe, a sister and her husband, Mollie Ann and Larry Hibbs of Butler, Pennsylvania; by a sister-in-law, Diane Heckert of Butler, Pennsylvania, by a brother-in-law, Dale Heckert of Butler, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephew.
There will be no public visitation. Memorial services will be held at the First English Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend James W. Dollhopf of First English Lutheran Church officiating.
Memorial donations can be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1007 Evans City Road, Renfrew, Pennsylvania 16001.
Josephine Kellen Moxey
January 24, 1914 - January 31, 2008
Josephine Kellen Moxey, age 94, of Marwood Road, Cabot, Pennsylvania, formerly of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 11:40 a.m. in the Concordia Lutheran Home.
Born January 24, 1914 in Salem, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Frank C. Kellen, Sr. and the late Margaret Walter Kellen.
She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Cabot, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Moxey was an office manager for Dr. Carl Danielson, Sr. for 31 years. She also worked for the office of Dr. Dudeck. Mrs. Moxey was a volunteer with the American Red Cross at the Butler V.A. Medical Center in Butler.
Mrs. Moxey is survived by one brother, Walter H. Kellen of Charlotte, North Carolina and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Moxey was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur C. Moxey, Jr., who passed away on September 4, 1998 and by one brother, Frank C. Kellen, Jr.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, February 3, 2008 from 1 to 2.
Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home on Sunday, February 3, 2008 following visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Barry Keurulainen, her church pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.
