Gilbert G. Rieger, Sr., age 90 of Boydstown Road, West Sunbury, Pennsylvania, died Monday, August 22, 2005 at 1:38 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born February 14, 1915 in Center Township, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Daniel Rieger and the late Amelia Kummer.
Mr. Rieger was the former owner and operator of the Rieger Lawn and Garden store in Freeport, Pennsylvania. He established the Gravely Tractor in Western Pennsylvania and also sold International and Gravely Tractors for 45 years. Mr. Rieger was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeport, Pennsylvania. He was an officer at the time the Butler Farm Show was founded in 1948.
Mr. Rieger is survived by two sons and their wives, Gilbert and Eileen Rieger, Jr. of Karns City, Pennsylvania, James E. and Suzie Rieger of West Sunbury, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Linda Ochs and her companion, George Bonnett of Butler, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Rieger was preceded in death by his wife, Florence O. Plaisted Rieger who passed away on March 23, 1989 and by one sister and three brothers.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, August 25, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, August 26, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Karl Schoch, hospice chaplain at Southerncare officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
Keylan James Bowers
January 22, 2005 - August 21, 2005
Keylan James Bowers, 7-month-old son of Braden E. Bowers and April C. Ferguson of West Sunbury Road in Butler, Pennsylvania, died at 8:47 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2005 at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He was born January 22, 2005 in Butler, Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Ronald and Linda Bowers; his maternal grandparents, Amy and Jeffrey Atkison of Emlenton, Pennsylvania; his paternal great-grandmother, Kathryn Bowers of Butler, Pennsylvania; his maternal great-grandmother, Mary McIntyre of Butler, Pennsylvania; his maternal great-grandparents, Alma and Jim Atkison of Butler, Pennsylvania; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
His paternal grandfather, James Ferguson and his great-grandparents preceded him in death.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, August 25, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
Funeral services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, August 26, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. with Reverend Ralph Link, retired pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Harold H. "Hesh" Mintz
June 15, 1924 - August 21, 2005
Harold H. "Hesh" Mintz, age 81, of Lancia Royale Nursing Home in Steubenville, Ohio, formerly of Butler, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 at the Trinity West Medical Center in Steubenville.
Born in Butler, Pennsylvania, June 15, 1924, he was the son of Bernard and Rebecca Belkan Mintz.
He was alumni of Butler High School and a member of the Butler Area Sports Hall of Fame. He was a former member of the Congregation B'nai Abraham.
Mr. Mintz was a retired attorney and had been an administrator at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
He served as a commissioned officer in the Navy during World War II.
Surviving are a son, Frederick Mintz of San Diego, California; two grandchildren; and nephews.
A sister and two brothers preceded him in death.
There will be no public visitation.
Funeral services and burial will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2005 at B'nai Abraham Cemetery with Cantor Adriane Caplowe of Congregation B'nai Abraham officiating.
Marie A. Piraino
March 8, 1923 - August 21, 2005
Marie A. Piraino, age 82, of Sunnyview Home, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 at 3:40 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born March 8, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Michael DelBene and the late Mary Kengerski.
Mrs. Piraino was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. Mrs. Piraino was a thirty plus years member of the Sunrise Bowling League.
Mrs. Piraino is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Al "Sonny" (Kitty) Aul of Butler, Pennsylvania; sister, Charlotte Senko of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Gloria DelBene of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two grandsons and their wives, A. Carl and Tammy Aul of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania, Ronald G. and Karen Aul of Butler, Pennsylvania; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ashley and Kaylee and also by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Piraino was preceded in death by her first husband, Ruben Henderson and by her second husband Ernest Piraino and also by one brother, Anthony.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
Nellie C. Shannon
August 16, 1909 - August 20, 2005
Nellie Cornelia Shannon, age 96 formerly of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 3:10 p.m. in Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot, Pennsylvania.
Born August 16, 1909 in Monongahela, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Frank Stephen Wray and the late Bernice Hayden.
Mrs. Shannon was a retired school teacher. She was minister's wife and a social worker for the Department of Public Assistance. Mrs. Shannon was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her interests include traveling, camping, genealogy. She had been active in the Pittsburgh Historical Society, Women's Business Association and various church groups. She is an alumni of Union High School class of 1928 and Muskingum College class of 1933.
Mrs. Shannon is survived by three daughters, Nancy C. Shannon of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Robert (Bernice) Bell of Bellingham, Washington, Mrs. James (Barbara) Swidzinski of Butler, Pennsylvania; one son, Allan Wray Shannon of Maui, Hawaii; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Shannon was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend William Allan Shannon who passed away on August 22, 1980.

Louise E. (Wezzie) Black, age 83 of New Castle Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, August 19, 2005 at 7:05 p.m. in the Sunnyview Home.
Born October 1, 1921 in Worthington, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Elmer G. Gaiser and the late Bernnita Bowser.
Mrs. Black was a cook for the Shell Diner and the Summit Dinner. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Black is survived by two sisters, Maxine L. Gaiser of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Lois M. Zanover of Springdale, Pennsylvania; two brothers, William H. Gaiser of Key West, Florida, Wilfred A. Gaiser of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Black who passed away on October 15, 1984 and by three sisters and one brother.
