Richard E. Snow, age 78 of Sunflower Road, Butler, Pennsylvania passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at 11:35 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born in Bruin, Pennsylvania on July 16, 1927 he was the son of the late Melvin Snow and Lydia Painter Snow.
Mr. Snow was a veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the United States Navy in July of 1944 after his seventeenth birthday. After completing boot camp he volunteered to take part in military test experiments at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C. from 1944 to 1946 he served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Bache and the battleship U.S.S. Missouri. After his discharge he received a commendation from president Harry S. Truman and later one from the Secretary of Defense William Perry as well as a certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Veteran's Affairs. He was a member of the Michael Kosar Post # 0778 of the American Legion in Lyndora, Pennsylvania, the Joseph T. Black Post # 249 of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Butler, Pennsylvania, and was a member of The (DAV) Disabled American Veterans. He was employed as a carpenter at the Bethlehem Steel Shipyards in Baltimore, Maryland from 1948 to 1952, a salesman for Penn Industrial Supply Co. in Butler from 1952 to 1967. Mr. Snow retired in 1982 after fifteen years with Pullman Standard when the plant closed. Mr. Snow was also a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. He was a hunter, fisherman, and a traveler. He spent time researching his family genealogy.
Mr. Snow is survived by his wife, Janice Marie McCall Snow whom he marriage at St. Phillip and James Church in Baltimore, Maryland on September 18, 1950, they renewed their vows on May 7, 1994 at St. Alphonsus Church in Butler, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by one son, Timothy Snow of Lindenwold, New Jersey, four daughters, Patricia McNerney and her husband Dr. David McNerney of Rockville, Maryland, Cynthia Lee Kenyon and her husband Dr. David J. Kenyon of St. Louis, Missouri, Kathleen Huff of Butler, Pennsylvania and Carolyn Rutter and her husband Harry Rutter of Marlton, New Jersey, seven grandchildren, two brothers, Dean Snow of Butler, Pennsylvania and Barry Sheakley of Rifle, Colorado, and by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Laverne Snow and his son in-law Gary L. Huff.

Snow will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, September 15, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Roman Catholic Blessing Service will be held on Friday, September 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc. Interment will be in the North Side Cemetery.
Gretchen Freeze
November 7, 1917 - September 13, 2005
Gretchen Freeze, age 88, of Broad Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at 3:40 a.m. at her residence.
Born November 7, 1917 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Clair and Bess Frye Brunermer.
Mrs. Freeze was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Butler Women's Club, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Seventeeners Club. She was a life member of Tanglewood Senior Center.
Mrs. Freeze is survived by her son, Ronald J. and his wife, Carol Freeze of Butler, Pennsylvania; her two grandchildren, Julie Carolyn Freeze and Andrew James Freeze; two sisters, Mrs. Gene (Marjorie) O'Donnell and Mrs. Robert (Vivian) Logan both of Springdale, Pennsylvania; three brothers, Carl Brunermer of Butler, Pennsylvania, Robert Brunermer of Apollo, Pennsylvania and Richard Brunermer of Venice, Florida, and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Her husband, James E. Freeze, who was deceased July 22, 1985, preceded Mrs. Freeze in death.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, September 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend J. David Panther, pastor of her church, officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum of Butler County Memorial Park.
Shawn Benjamin Slater
September 1, 1987 - September 12, 2005
Shawn Benjamin Slater, age 18 of Stone Church Road, Prospect, Pennsylvania, collapsed Monday evening, September 12, 2005 while on the sidelines of a soccer game between Portersville Christian School and The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf of which he was a participant. He was rushed to nearby U.P. M. C. Shadyside but passed away shortly thereafter.
Shawn lived an exemplary life because he had no fear of death because he believed the ultimate part of his life was when he would see Jesus and pass into his arms.
Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1987 he was the son of Alan D. Slater and Alberta B. Stevenson Slater.
Shawn was a member of Beersheba Church in Prospect, Pennsylvania and a member of Portersville Bible Church's youth group. He was a senior at Portersville Christian School, a member of National Honor Society, Who's Who of American High School Students, National Honor Roll and Highest Honor Roll and was on course to be his graduating class' Salutatorian .He also received the American Legion Award. At school he was active member of the basketball and soccer teams and also participated in weightlifting. He was a member of drama class and chorus and had roles in three school productions; Honk, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and The Butler Did It. He enjoyed hunting, archery, paintball, fishing and jogging.
In addition to his parents he is also survived by one brother, Eric Alan Slater and one sister, Laura Lynn Slater both living at home, his paternal grandmother and step-grandfather Paul & Rita Slater of Mulberry, Florida, his maternal grandmother, Veva (Tootie) Stevenson of Prospect, Pennsylvania, and by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald E. Slater and his maternal grandfather George A. Stevenson Jr.

Funeral services will be from the Portersville Bible Church on Friday September 16, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend George Stevenson, III of Beersheba Church and Reverend Mike Charles of Portersville Bible Church officiating. Interment will follow in The Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mt. Chestnut, Pennsylvania.

Andrew E. "Gump" Kamerer, Sr., age 71 of Cliff Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 2:05 p.m. in the Butler V A Medical Center.
Born August 27, 1934 in Greece City, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late David Edward Kamerer and the late Bertha Rose Bowser.
Mr. Kamerer was a meat cutter for Miller's Quality Meats. He was Protestant by faith. Mr. Kamerer was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.
Mr. Kamerer is survived by one son, Andrew E. Kamerer, Jr. of Butler, Pennsylvania; daughter, Gwen Atkinson of Butler, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Ida (Peg) Smith of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Naomi (Rose) Thompson of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Dorothy (Janie) Caldwell of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Ann Margaret Boyd of Ravenna, Ohio; two brothers, Frank Kamerer of Grove City, Pennsylvania, and Thomas Kamerer of Butler, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Kamerer was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Margaret R. McMillin

Margaret R. McMillin, age 75 of Race Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 1:40 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born May 26, 1930 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Harry B. Carson and the late Irma Love.
Mrs. McMillin was a homemaker. She was a member of North Street Christian Church. Mrs. McMillin worked for many years for the Election Return Board for Butler County. She was a volunteer member for the Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. McMillin is survived by her husband, Laverne McMillin, Sr. whom she marriage on August 27, 1948, by two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Patricia) Brandt of Naples, Florida, Mrs. Timothy (Susan) Johnston of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania; two sons, Larry McMillin, and Laverne McMillin, Jr. both of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McMillin was preceded in death by a son, a grandson, a sister and a brother.

Nanci Marie Walters Lang, age 53 of 207 Fairfax Lane, Locust Grove, Virginia, died Friday, September 9, 2005 at 7:05 p.m. at the home of a relative.
Born October 10, 1951 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of William F. Walters and Patricia L. Potyka Walters.
Mrs. Lang was a legal secretary for several Butler attorneys. She was Presbyterian by faith. Mrs. Lang was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge Chapter 1592 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining.
Mrs. Lang is survived by her husband, Larry J. Lang whom she marriage on July 9, 1978, by one daughter, Sarah M. Lang of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania; her parents, Mr. William F. and Mrs. Patty L. Walters of Butler, Pennsylvania; one sister, Connie Steinberg of North Canton, Ohio; two nephews, Derek Steinberg, Robb Steinberg of North Canton, Ohio.
