Charles E. Burr, Jr., age 92 formerly of Butler, died Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Edward White Hospital, St. Petersburg, Florida.
Born August 24, 1913 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Burr was a store manager for Pennsylvania State Liquor Store in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1975.
Mr. Burr, Jr. is survived by one niece, Linda Felts of Davenport, Iowa; and one nephew, Kenneth Wiles of San Raphael, California.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 2:00 p.m.. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Betty M. Whitmer
January 1, 1930 - September 7, 2005
Betty M. Whitmer, age 75 of Main Street, Emlenton, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 5:10 a.m. in UPMC Northwest Franklin Hospital.
Born January 1, 1930 in Bruin, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Edwin C. Wolff and the late Florence Durnell.
Mrs. Whitmer was a worker for IGA Grocery Store retiring in 1990 after 17 years of service. She was Lutheran by faith. Mrs. Whitmer was a member of Dehart Rossman Wenner American Legion Auxiliary for 42 years, she volunteered at Books Galore at Crawford Center in Emlenton, she was a member of Senior Centers of Parker, and a volunteer of Faith Action. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing cards, gardening and driving for senior citizens.
Mrs. Whitmer is survived by one son, Richard Whitmer of State College, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Loretta Whitmer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Victoria Whitmer of Emlenton, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, one sister, Nina Lee Manuel of West Sunbury, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Whitmer was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Whitmer who passed away in August of 1978 and by a brother.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Howard John Clark
December 14, 1924 - September 5, 2005
Howard John Clark, age 80 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, September 5, 2005 at U.P.M.C. Passavant hospital after a short illness.
Born December 14, 1924 he was the son of the late Alderman John D. Clark and the late Bertha A. (Cross) Clark.
Mr. Clark graduated from Butler High school in 1942 and Washington and Jefferson College in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He served in the U. S. Army 1950-1952 with the Second Historical Detachment. Mr. Clark coached several winning independent basketball teams, played softball and enjoyed golf. He also was a basketball official. He served as a physical director at various YMCA's from 1954-1972. He retired from Butler County Community College in 1992 after 17 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he and his wife were greeters. He was a member of Hiland Golf Course and AARP.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Carol E. (Seely) Clark whom he marriage on June 12, 1954; one son, Thomas A. Clark, a daughter-in-law, Donna Clark, two grand-daughters, Danielle and Kaitlyn and a grandson, Andy Clark of Hatboro, Pennsylvania; three nieces, one great-niece, one great nephew, and a number of cousins.
There will be no public viewing. Funeral service will be private. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park
Memorial donations in lieu of flower's may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home.
Rita M. Schaffer
November 30, 1930 - September 2, 2005
Rita M. Schaffer, age 74, of Three Degree Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died peacefully Friday, September 2, 2005 at 2:10 p.m. at U.P.M.C. Cranberry Place in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.
Born November 30, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the Edward and Marie Robesh Mueller.
Mrs. Schaffer retired from Butler County Community College and she worked in the financial aid department. Mrs. Schaffer was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was active in her church, she sang in the choir and was part of a women's trio. She also volunteered and participated in small groups at her church. Mrs. Schaffer enjoyed traveling in the motor home with her husband over the years.
She had a beautiful smile and made many friends throughout her lifetime. During her last year of life, she was touched by caring doctors, nurses, and aides at the Butler Memorial Hospital, the Butler Dialysis Center, the Butler Regional Cancer Center and by the Cranberry Place. Her family and friends surrounded her with love, encouragement, support and prayers.
Mrs. Schaffer will be missed by her caring husband of over 50 years, William R. Schaffer; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Diane) Hillwig of Dover, Ohio; a son, Glenn R. Schaffer of Butler, Pennsylvania; three special grandsons, Jay, Joel and Jordan Hillwig; two sisters, Jane Cunic of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Emily Mueller of Detroit, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
One brother preceded Mrs. Schaffer in death.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, September 4, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Monday, September 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend J. David Panther, pastor of her church, officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum of Butler County Memorial Park.

Eva Truman Gold
December 8, 1906 - September 2, 2005
Eva Truman Gold, age 98, formerly of Butler, Pennsylvania and a resident for the past eight years at Country Meadows in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, died Friday, September 2, 2005 at 4:00 a.m. at Country Meadows.
Born December 8, 1906 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Joseph Frank and Myrtle Mae Johnston Truman.
Mrs. Gold was a 1924 graduate of Butler High School and a 1928 graduate of Muskingum College. She was a member of St Andrew's United Presbyterian Church in Butler, Pennsylvania where she had been a Sunday school teacher for many years, a former deacon and had been a member of the session.
Mrs. Gold was a homemaker.
Mrs. Gold is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. John R. (Doris) Gottschall of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Janet Gold of Denver of Denver, Colorado; two grandsons; her brother, Lee Truman of Indianapolis, Indiana and by her six nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Fred N. Gold, who she marriage on June 12, 1930 and was deceased on November 2, 1985, and by one brother and two sisters, preceded Mrs. Gold in death.
Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dennis Molnar, of The Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Craig A. Thompson, age 36 of St. Barnabas, Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, October 30, 2005 at 8:40 p.m. in the U.P.M.C. Passavant hospital.
Born May 7, 1969 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Geraldine Thompson.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Thompson of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania; aunt, Esther McLaughlin of Butler, Pennsylvania; and uncle, Michael Thompson of Butler, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his mother.
