Gean M. Tinker

November 29, 1926 - March 16, 2006

Gean Marie Durham Tinker, age 79 of East Fulton Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Butler Memorial Hospital

Born November 29, 1926 in Richmond, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late John Durham and the late Elizabeth Robards.

Mrs. Tinker was a secretary for Northwestern Mutual Life along with her husband who sold insurance. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Madison High School. Mrs. Tinker graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky University with a major in chemistry and a minor in music. She belonged to the Butler County Symphony playing principle second violin for 32 years. She was a member of the Women's Bowling Association and was an avid bowler. She loved to win at Scrabble against her friends.

Mrs. Tinker is survived by one son, Paul Tinker of Greenwood, Louisiana; and one daughter, Elizabeth G. Watson of El Paso, Texas.

Mrs. Tinker was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Tinker whom she marriage on September 5, 1953, he passed away on October 2, 2005.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, March 19, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America on Monday, March 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend J. D. Funyak, of Covenant Community Presbyterian Church, Wexford, Pennsylvania officiating. Interment will follow in Summit U. P. Church Cemetery.

H. Paul Keck

May 21, 1931 - March 14, 2006

H. Paul Keck, age 74 of Wichita, Kansas, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 in the Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.

Born May 21, 1931 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Herman P. Keck and the late Emma L. Whiteside Keck.

Mr. Keck was a sales representative for DeVore and Sons, Inc. for 33 plus years. For several years, he worked for Callery Chemical Company in Callery, Pennsylvania and then moved to that company's facilities in Lawrence, Kansas, and later to Muskogee, Oklahoma. In 1962, Paul joined the Advance Products Company of Wichita, Kansas, first as a salesman and later becoming sales manager. He traveled throughout the United States and Canada representing the company, which manufactures audio visual equipment, including welded steel table for projectors, television monitors and computer. His honesty and integrity in dealing with customers was instrumental in creating the highly favorable reputation, which that company still enjoys. He also contributed numerous ideas for new products, which encouraged the growth and success of the company. In addition to supervising the sales and customer service personnel, Paul was responsible for advertising, literature design and preparation, and planning many, many sales conventions and exhibits. He retired in 1996, and continued to live in Wichita. He served on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Arthritis Foundation, and was member of the Blue Sky Investment Club. He retained his membership in St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Butler, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Keck is survived by a number of cousins.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, March 19, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, March 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Robert W. Strobel interim pastor of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

In addition, there will be a ceremony of Remembrance and Celebration of his life at on Monday March 20th in Wichita, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 West Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to Kansas Arthritis Foundation, Kansas Chapter, 1999 North Amidon Avenue, Suite 105, Wichita, Kansas 67203-2122 or to Salvation Army, 313 West Cunningham Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Florence M. Conner

February 23, 1925 - March 14, 2006

Florence M. Conner, age 81 of Burtner Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Hundred, West Virginia died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. in the Sunnyview Home.

Born February 23, 1925 in Hundred, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Appy Wright and the late Alice LeMasters.

Mrs. Conner was a grocery store manager. She was a Methodist by faith. She lived her life in Hundred, West Virginia until age 74 then moved to this area to be with her family.

Mrs. Conner is survived by one daughter, Ruth (Ed) Wetzel of Butler, Pennsylvania; one sister, Betty Jones of New Cumberland, West Virginia; and one brother, Ray LeMasters of Columbus, Ohio.

Mrs. Conner was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Conner who passed away in 1979 and by three brothers and one sister.

Dorothy E. Leighton

July 13, 1920 - March 14, 2006

Dorothy E. Leighton, age 85 of Vets Club Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 7:50 a.m. at her residence.

Born July 13, 1920 in Meridian, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Paul C. Kradel and the late Jean Canon.

Mrs. Leighton was a homemaker. She was a member of North Street Christian Church. She enjoyed being with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Leighton is survived by her husband, Harry B. Leighton, Jr. whom she marriage on October 18, 1939, one son, Jim Leighton and his wife Joan of Kittanning, Pennsylvania; two daughters and their husbands, Debra K. and Douglas Garvin of West Chester, Ohio, Sally J. and Ralph E. Cooper of Butler, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Jimmy Leighton of Ford City, Pennsylvania, Kelli Myers of Adrian, Pennsylvania, Krystal Garvin of New York City, New York; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Evan Leighton; one brother, Paul F. Kradel and his wife Donna of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by three nieces and five nephews.

A private funeral service was held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Robert C. Huber of North Street Christian Church officiating.

Contributions may be made to Hospice Program of the Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

John J. Millen

June 12, 1920 - March 14, 2006

John J. Millen, age 85 of East Christie Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 7:40 a.m. in the Sunnyview Home.

Born June 12, 1920 in Endicott, New York he was the son of the late Stiles Millen and the late Grace Satterly.

Mr. Millen was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Asbury Sunday Sunday School Class and was also an usher. He taught English at Butler High School from 1949 to 1959, he then taught English is Abington, Pennsylvania for 7 years. Mr. Millen returned to Butler in 1967 as a professor of speech, English and semantics at Butler County Community College until his retirement in 1985. While at Butler High School he directed many high school plays. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the African and European campaigns as an anti-aircraft gunner. He was an avid golfer and bridge player. Mr. Millen was a former board member with Butler County Symphony Association and Butler City Zoning Board. He was also an alumni of Pitt University.

Mr. Millen is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Henry Millen whom he marriage on September 8, 1946, two sons and their wives, Jay and Cindy Millen of Mims, Florida, Henry L. and Faye Millen of Coffeyville, Kansas; one grandchild, Joshua Millen; two step-grandchildren, Mariah Fine and Jeremiah Johnson; one brother, Donald Millen of Yellow Pine, Idaho; and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Millen was preceded in death by his four sisters and two brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, March 16, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend J. David Panther officiating. Interment will follow in Summit U. P. Church Cemetery.

Joseph F. Sawron

August 26, 1925 - March 12, 2006

Joseph Frances Sawron, age 80 of East Locust Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at 7:20 a.m. at his residence.

Born August 26, 1925 in Lyndora, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Joseph Sawron and the late Katherine Demko.

Mr. Sawron was a retired welder for Pullman-Standard. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and WW II, where he served in the Pacific. He enjoyed flea marketing and gardening.

Mr. Sawron is survived by his wife Betty J. Sawron whom he marriage on October 22, 1949, one daughter, Diane Lynn Cottone; one son, Joseph Edwin Sawron of both of Butler, Pennsylvania; one grandchild, one great-grandchild, one sister, Katherine Sheppeck of Butler, Pennsylvania, number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sawron was preceded in death by his five sisters.

A memorial service will be held at the Salvation Army, 313 West Cunningham Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Major Robert Carney officiating. Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania.

James B. Hill

August 1, 1928 - March 8, 2006

James B. Hill, age 77 of 459 Fisher Road, Cabot, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 10:02 p.m. in the Alle-Kiski Medical Center.

Born August 1, 1928 in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Paul E. Hill and the late Jean Blyth. Jim's great, great-grandfather William Hill founded the town of Slippery Rock calling it Centerville, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Hill served with the first rotation of occupied Japan in the 1st Calvary Division at the close of WW II. Mr. Hill graduated from Grove City College spending his working years with Allegheny Ludlum Steel as manager in the Sales Development department for 40 years retiring in 1993. He was a member of Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church serving as Trustee, Elder, Superintendent of Sunday School and a teacher.

Mr. Hill is survived by his wife, Patricia Grenet Hill whom he marriage on May 28, 1954, three sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Nancy Hill, Sr. of Sarver, Pennsylvania, Tim and Linda Hill of Carmel, Indiana, Tyler Hill of Cabot, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren: Shannon of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, Jeffrey, Jr. and Shane of Sarver, Ryan, Justin, and Daniel of Carmel, Indiana, one sister, Patricia Hild of State College, Pennsylvania, a brother-in-law and his wife Janyce and Bob Kaltenhauser of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, sister-in-law Joyce G. Hall of Butler, Pennsylvania, brother-in-law Ray Fortunato of State College, Pennsylvania, and by a number of loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his sisters Ruth Fortunato and Blyth Hill.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 11, 2006 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend R. Cameron Malcolm, IV of Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Saxonburg Cemetery, Saxonburg, Pennsylvania.
