Mrs. Dean A. Muthard
Mrs. Delores E. Muthard, 57, of 672 Blue Mountain Road, Ashfield, died Wednesday in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. She was the wife of Dean A. Muthard. They observed their 36th wedding anniversary last July.
Born in Slatington, she was a daughter of Mrs. Erma G. (Eck) Heckman of Lehighton and the late Fulton Heckman.
She was a member of Dinkey Memorial Lutheran Church, Ashfield.
Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are a daughter, Gail Getter of Lehighton; a son John and a sister Judith, wife of Thomas Whiteman, both of Palmerton; a brother, Raymond Grimes of Slatington; and two grandchildren.
The Thomas K. Thomas Funeral Home, 145 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of the arrangements.
Michael P. Contestabile
Michael P. Contestabile, 73, of 5295 Herman St., Germansville, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Tuesday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Brunilda (Malaret) Contestabile. They observed their 20th wedding anniversary in December.
He worked in the packaging department of the Stroh Brewery Company, Fogelsville, for 11 years before retiring in 1987, and previously had worked for the former Schaefer Brewery Company, Brooklyn, for 30 years.
Born in Brooklyn, he was a son of the late Andrew and Teresa (Degenaro) Contestabile.
He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Slatington.
Contestabile was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Louise Meloro of Sayreville, N.J., and Stephanie A. of Allentown; two stepdaughters, Gloria R., wife of David P. Scheetz of Schnecksville, and Alma T. Washburn of Germansville; a stepson, Robert Pagan of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Frederick W. Beineman
Frederick W. Beineman, 74, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Tuesday in the Fort Smith Hospital. He was the husband of Rita Beineman.
He was a buyer for Glidewell Distributing and a bookkeeper for Rogers Avenue Animal Clinic, both in Fort Smith, for the past 18 years, and previously was employed by the American Can Corporation in Fort Smith.
Born in East Mauch Chunk, he was a son of the late Herbert M. and Edna (Weihbrecht) Searfoss Beineman.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fort Smith.
Beineman was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Denise Anne McCulloch of Heber Springs, Ark.; three sons, Douglas F. of Tulsa, Okla., Stephen F. of Russellville, Ark., and Donald E. of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Ednamae Beers and Mary Jeanette Shanfelt, both of Jim Thorpe; a brother Donald of Haddon Heights, N.J.; and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Gertrude E. McLaughlin
Mrs. Gertrude E. McLaughlin, 87, of Elm Terrace Gardens, Lansdale, formerly of West Oaklane, Philadelphia, died Monday in Elm Terrace. She was the widow of Charles McLaughlin.
A 1930 graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, she worked for many years at Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, and also did private duty nursing.
Born in Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Nora (O'Leary) Golby.
Surviving is a niece.
Comisac survivor
Among the survivors of Steven Comisac Jr., 65, of Tamaqua R.3, who died Tuesday in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, is a daughter Deborah, wife of Charles Yuskauskas of Tamaqua. The last name was incorrectly spelled in yesterday's edition.
Angelo R. Sist
Angelo R. Sist of 61 E. Market St., Tresckow, died Wednesday in the Hazleton General Hospital. He was the husband of Mary T. (Dougherty) Sist. They were married for 45 years.
He taught school in Tresckow and served as supervising principal in the former Banks Township School District from 1948-66, and elementary principal from 1966 until retiring in 1972.
Born in Tresckow, he was a son of the late Anthony and Carmella (Mastrull) Sist, and was a lifelong resident of Carbon County.
He was a 1928 graduate of the former St. Gabriel High School, Hazleton, and received his BA in education from East Stroudsburg Teacher's College and his MA in education from New York University, New York City, N.Y.
During World War II, he served with the Army Air Force as a weather observer in England with the 306th Bomber Group, Eighth Air Force.
He served with numerous organizations, including CANDO, Inc., the Hazleton Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Carbon and Schuylkill Rent Control Board, and the Anthracite Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also was a manager of the Tresckow Little League and a member of the Men of Malvern and BPOE Lodge 200 of Hazleton; past president of the Hazleton Lions Club, of which he was a member for 57 years; member of the Pennsylvania Association of Retired School Superintendents and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
In 1994, he received an award for 50 years of perfect attendance with the Lions Club. He was also chairman of the club's blind scholarship committee, which provides financial assistance to blind college students.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son Michael of Camp Hill; four brothers, Michael and Samuel, both of Hazleton, Joseph of Beaver Brook and Anthony Jr. of Burbank, Calif.; four sisters, Anna Panzarella and Theresa Fiore, both of Hazleton, Clementine Massillino of West Hazleton and Jennie DeMara of Tresckow; two grandchildren, a great-grandchild and nieces and nephews.
Mark S. Solt
Mark S. Solt, 68, of 5540 Chenango Drive, Bethlehem, died Wednesday evening in his home.
The Kenneth N. Phifer Funeral Home, Third and Iron streets, Lehighton, is in charge of the arrangements.
Anthony Piech
Anthony "Butch" Piech 72, of Lake Hauto, Nesquehoning, died Wednesday in the Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Margaret (Englert) Piech.
He was last employed at Stanley Vidmar Co. in Allentown and prior to that worked as a miner for the former Coaldale Mining Company until it closed.
Born in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Petuch) Piech.
He was a member of St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lansford.
Surviving with his widow is a sister, Catherine Malay of Tamaqua and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Thomas and John, and two sisters, Julia and Mary.
The August M. Gulla Funeral Home, 130 E. Ridge St., Coaldale, is in charge of arrangements.
