Margaret L. Thamarus
Margaret L. "Peg" Thamarus, 86, of 714 Lehigh St., Jim Thorpe, died Monday afternoon in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton.
Prior to retiring, she was a sewing machine operator for the former Zales Silk Mill, Jim Thorpe, and later had owned and operated the former Sam's Grill and Bar on Center Street in the community.
Born in East Mauch Chunk, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Heisel) Thamarus.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Frank; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Rudner and Cecelia and Marcella Thamarus.
The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arrangements.
Hilda Q. David
Hilda Q. David, 75, of Northampton, died Sunday in ManorCare Health Services, Bethlehem.
Born in Whitehall Township, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Jeanette (Schaeffer) Leopold.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Northampton.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph of Dayton, Ohio, Richard of Danielsville and Daniel of Schnecksville; a daughter Cheryl, wife of Robert White of Whitehall; three brothers, Woodrow of North Whitehall Township and Kenneth and Clayton, both of Allentown; two sisters, Pauline, wife of Stanley Mohr of Allentown, and Eleanor Muth of Germansville; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Swartz, 84, of Weatherwood, Weatherly, formerly of Nesquehoning, who died Sunday in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, with the Rev. Ben Ehrets officiating, followed by interment
in Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown, Tamaqua R.2. A calling hour will precede the services.
Michael Riebe
Michael Riebe 88, of Mentor, Ohio, formerly of Cleveland, died May 3 in his home. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Pierce) Riebe. They were married for 57 years.
He was a retired clerk for the Cleveland Post Office and also owned his own carpet cleaning business.
Born in Lansford, he was the son of the late Fritz and Susan Riebe.
He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church and the South Euclid Lions Club, both in Ohio.
Riebe was an Army Air Corps veteran.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two sons, Dr. Robert A. and Thomas M., both of Concord; two brothers, John in Virginia and Fritz in Indiana; a sister, Mary Matrician of Lansford; and five grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Andrew.
Funeral services were held in Mentor.

Joseph P. Nanovic
Joseph P. Nanovic, 84, of Palmerton, died Monday in the Manor Care Nursing Center, Carlisle. He was the husband of the late Amelia (Gray) Nanovic.
He was the editor, publisher and owner of the former Palmerton Post newspaper from 1948 to 1983. During the 1970s and 1980s, he was the owner and publisher of the former Slatington News and, from 1983-94, he worked as an administrative aide at the Palmerton and Bethlehem law offices of his son, Joseph T. Nanovic of Zionsville.
Born in Palmerton, the deceased was a son of the late Joseph and Eva Nanovic.
He was a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
Surviving in addition to his son are another son Harold of Harrisburg; two daughters, Sylvia, wife of Ronald Hollenbaugh of Boiling Springs, Pa., and Juanita Harper of Springfield, Va.; a brother, John L. of Jackson Heights, N.Y.; a sister Rose, wife of Lew Bostick of Chardon, Ohio; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mary C. Stettner
Mary C. Stettner of 48 S. Walnut St., Slatington, died Tuesday in her home.
She was an operator for the former Bell of Pennsylvania, Allentown office, for 35 years before retiring in 1981.
Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Ludwig and Rosalie (Geiger) Stettner.
She was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Slatington, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society.
The deceased was a corporal in the 110th Division of the Women Army Corps during World War II.
She was a member of the Allen O. Delke American Legion Post 16, Slatington.
Surviving are two brothers, Ludwig P. of Slatington and John of Allentown; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Switaj of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Caroline, wife of Frederick Jerant of Allentown.
Joseph A. Rustine
Joseph A. Rustine, 90, formerly of Appenzell, Monroe County, died Tuesday in ManorCare Health Services, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Mary E. (Brong) Rustine. They observed their 71st wedding anniversary in December.
He was an animal technician for the National Drug Company, Swiftwater, for more than 25 years before retiring in 1964, and previously was a painter and paperhanger for more than 30 years.
Born in Appenzell, he was a son of the late William and Susan (Frantz) Rustine.
He was a member of St. Mark Community Lutheran Church, Appenzell, and the 20-year club at National Drug.
Surviving in addition to his widow are three daughters, Lorraine Granacher of Stroudsburg R.3, Jean Check of Bethlehem and Ruth Ann Starner of Allentown; two sisters, Helen Overbeck of Nazareth and Mary Bonser of Wind Gap; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet M. Gower.
The Kresge Funeral Home, Rt. 209, Brodheadsville, is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Jane W. Knecht
Mrs. Jane W. Knecht, 87, of Atlanta, Ga., died Saturday, May 10, in her home. She was the widow of Carl Knecht.
She was a missionary teacher in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Arfica, from 1946-60, and also had taught in Lower Saucon Township, Spring Valley and Walnutport schools from 1929-43.
A 1929 graduate of Bloomsburg University, she studied in the North Bergen, N.J., Bible School from 1943-46.
Born in Slatington, she was a daughter of the late William R. and Margaret (Roberts) Williams.
She was a member of The Church in Atlanta.
Surviving are three sisters, Melba Lichtenwalner of Orefield, Agnes, wife of LaRoy Blose of Slatington, and Kathryn Fatzinger of Allentown.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in Atlanta.
