Mrs. Mabel Hartung
Mrs. Mabel Hartung, 86, of the Majestic House, Tamaqua, formerly of Grier City, died Thursday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. She was the widow of Walter Hartung, who died May 14, 1971.
Born in Germansville, she was a daughter of the late David D. and Cora (Neff) Krum.
She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Tamaqua.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Benjamin H. Deeble
Benjamin H. Deeble, 82, formerly of Quakake, died Wednesday in the convalescent unit of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Mildred (Hess) Deeble.
The couple resided at the home since October, moving there from the Wilmington, Del., area.
Prior to retiring in 1976, he was a foreman for A.T. & T., Upper Darby, where he worked for 19 years.
From 1941-45, he was a fireman and engineer on the former Reading Railroad, and, from 1954-57, he worked as a realtor for the A.W. Binns firm.
Deeble worked in security from 1977-88 for the Burns Detective Agency, Upper Darby.
Born in Delano, he was a son of the late Samuel and Anna (Krick) Deeble.
He was a member of the Evangelical Christian Church, Newark, Del.
A 32nd degree mason, he was a 50-year member of F. and A.M. Lodge No. 238, Tamaqua, and the Allentown Consistory. He also belonged to the Brotherhood of Railway Engineers and the Telephone Pioneers.
He helped form the first Boy Scout troop in Tamaqua and worked with handicapped scouts in Upper Darby.
From 1944-52, he was secretary of the Tamaqua School Board.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Benjamin H. of Wilmington; a daughter, Gloria Romero-Espanol in New Mexico; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ernest E. Hess
Ernest E. Hess, 74, of 6920 Jay St., Slatington, died Thursday in his home. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Hugo) Hess. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary last June 1.
He retired in 1986 after 28 years of service as a courier for the Lehigh Valley Dairy, Allentown.
Born in East Allen Township, he was a son of the late Earl E. and Bertha C. (Hartzell) Hess.
He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Slatington.
An Army veteran of World War II, Hess belonged to American Legion Post 470, Bath.
He was also a member of the Petersville Rod and Gun Club and a former member for 30 years of the Snyder Church Consistory.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Bruce E. of Allentown; a sister, Harriet M. Kellner, and a brother, Kervin R., both of Northampton; and four grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Keith E.
Mrs. Anna Gazdick
Mrs. Anna Gazdick, 81, of 544 E. Railroad St., Nesquehoning, died Thursday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. She was the widow of John E. Gazdick, who died on March 7.
Born in Hauto, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Kathryn (Kitchko) Halupa, and was a lifelong resident of the community.
She was a member of St. John Slovak Lutheran Church, Lansford; the Gnaden Huetten Chapter No. 203, Order of Eastern Star, Lehighton; Nesquehoning Women's Club; and the Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 8008, Nesquehoning.
Surviving are two brothers, Paul Jr. of Chula Vista, Calif., and Samuel of Dumont, N.J.; two sisters, her twin, Olga, wife of Albert Beneck of Hellertown, and Kathryn Mullin of Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County; and nieces and nephews.

Archibald D. Heller
Archibald D. "Archie" Heller, 84, of Kellersville, died Wednesday in his home. He was the husband of Eugenia "Jean" (Harps) Heller.
He was a farmer and a sales representative for the Dekalb Feed Company before retiring.
Born in Hamilton Township, he was a son of the late David and Emma (Young) Heller.
He was a member of Reeders United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee.
Heller was president of the Kellersville Cemetery Association for many years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Sydney J. McSweeney of Granville, Ohio; three sisters, Verlo Shupp of Snydersville, Leila Henning of Bethlehem and Beulah Fellencer of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a so, Joseph Archie.
Rev. James M. Carr
The Rev. James M. Carr, 89, formerly of 152 S. Cedar St., Hazleton, pastor emeritus of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Minersville, and a resident of Holy Family Villa, Bethlehem, died Thursday.
Born in Tresckow, he was the son of the late James M. and Anna (Hare) Carr.
He attended Tresckow Elementary School and the St. Gabriel High School, Hazleton.
He studied for the priesthood at Mt. St. Mary Seminary, Emmitsburg, Md., and was ordained on May 26, 1934, by the Most Rev. Gerald O'Hara in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia.
He served as an assistant pastor at St. Charles Church, Cornwalls, 1934-36; St. Stanislaus Church, Lansdale, 1936-41; St. Agatha Church, 1941-53, and St. Madeline Sophie, both of Philadelphia, 1953-60.
He was administer of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Coaldale, 1960-61, and pastor, 1961-63; administrator St. Vincent de Paul, Minersville, 1963-72; and pastor, 1972-77; and was named pastor emeritus on Oct. 1, 1977.
Surviving are cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, William P., Raymond, the Rev. Joseph V., Harold J., and the Rev. Robert E.; and two sisters, Anna and Mary Carr.
Horowitz services
Memorial services for Clara Horowitz, 75, of Indian Mountain Lakes, Albrightsville, who died on April 5 in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday from the Indian Mountain Lakes Recreation Hall, Albrightsville.
