Frederick S. Garrett
Frederick S. Garrett, 80, of 55 E. White St., Summit Hill, died Thursday in the Gnaden Huetten Nursing and Convalescent Center, Lehighton.
He worked for Mack Trucks, Inc., Allentown, for 22 years before retiring in 1978.
Born in Summit Hill, he was a son of the late William and Amelia (Storch) Garrett.
He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and American Legion Post 316, both of Summit Hill.
Surviving are two brothers, Franklin, his twin, with whom he resided, and William Chapel in Florida; a niece and five nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George and Emerson A. Sr.
The Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home, 54 W. Fell St., Summit Hill, is in charge of the arrangements.
William Solan
William Solan, 89, of 56 E. Railroad St., Nesquehoning, died Thursday in the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mahoning Township. He was the husband of the late Christine (Petrock) Solan, who died in 1991.
He was employed by Schrafft's Restaurant, New York City, N.Y., for 43 years before retiring in 1974.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Peter and Irene (Hansser) Solan, and had been living in Nesquehoning since 1974.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Nesquehoning.
Surviving are two daughters, Lorraine McCluskey of Richmond, Va., and Noreen, wife of Donald Carbucci of Scarsdale, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
The Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, is in charge of the arrangements.
Irvin F. Schoener Jr.
Irvin F. Schoener Jr., 80, of 10 Cherry St., Tamaqua, died Thursday in the Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. He was the husband of the late Evelyn M. (Schock) Schoener, who died in 1990.
He was an engineer for the former Reading Railroad before retiring in 1976.
Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Irvin F. Sr. and Hilda (Miller) Schoener.
He was a life member of the South Ward Fire Company, Tamaqua.
Schoener was a 1935 graduate of Tamaqua High School.
Surviving are three sons, Robert B. of Golden, Colo., Glenn C. of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Matthew Moyer of Tamaqua; a daughter, Dawn M. Kunkel of Danbury, Conn.; a sister, Mrs. Florence Kleckner of Wernersville, Berks County; and seven grandchildren.

William J. Fritz
William J. Fritz, 66, of Seipstown, died Thursday in his home.
He was a self-employed woodworker in Seipstown for the past 10 years, and previously was superintendent of maintenance for the Episcopal House, Allentown, for five years until 1983, and a truck driver for the former Modern Transfer, Allentown, from 1961-76.
Born in Tamaqua, he was a son of the late Raymond D. and Hannah (Fegley) Fritz.
He was a member of the Cetronia Fire Company.
Surviving are a companion, Grace A. Wotring, with whom he resided; two daughters, Elizabeth A., wife of Edward G. Faust of Alburtis, and Carol, wife of Eugene Fegley of Allentown; three sons, William of Hazleton, James of Collegeville and Michael of York; a sister, Mrs. Edith Subacz of Hazleton; a stepdaughter, Anna Mae, wife of William Augustine of Allentown; four stepsons, Harry and James Barron, both of Tamaqua, Ronald Barron of Allentown and Donald Barron in Washington State; 31 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Phyllis Freeman
Phyllis Freeman, 73, of Anchorage, Alaska, formerly of Cordova, Alaska, died Jan. 9 in her home.
Born in Weatherly, se was a daughter of Helen M. (O'Leary) Freund, who died last year.
The deceased was a licensed Realtor in Anchorage, and previously was a substitute teacher and fishing boat worker, 1977-80. In the 1960s, she managed Conway Personnel, Easton, and worked for Snelling and Snelling, Allentown. She was also an executive secretary for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation from 1953-63.
She received a certificate of completion in real estate from Royse and Associates, Anchorage.
Surviving are three daughters, Brenda Schwarz and Sue Babcock, both of Anchorage, and Barbara Howett of Newtown, Bucks County; and seven grandchildren.
Myron E. Jones
Myron E. "Mack" Jones, 86, of 544 Werkheiser Ave., Nazareth, died Wednesday in his home. He was the husband of the late Mary C. (Lauer) Hoffman Jones.
He was a lineman for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 126, Collegeville, for 31 years before retiring in 1978. He recently received his 50-year membership pin.
Born in Slatington, he was a son of the late John J. and Jeanette (Davies) Jones.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Nazareth.
Jones was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of F. and A.M. Lodge No. 440, Slatington; the Valley of Allentown Scottish Rite; Rajah Temple Shrine, Reading; and the Stockertown Rod and Gun Club. He was a life member of the Vigilant Fire Company, Slatington.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Hodgson of Newark, Del., and Sandra, wife of Errol Betzenberger of Nazareth; a sister, Mrs. Mary Yenser of Slatington; and four grandsons.
Harry Kepping
Harry L. Kepping, 76, of Box 570, Drums R.3, died Thursday morning in the Hazleton-St. Joseph Medical Center, where he had been a patient for a week. He was the husband of Mildred (Wagner Trently) Kepping. They were married for 17 years.
He was employed by UGI of Hazleton for 34 years, retiring in 1976, as a construction superintendent.
He was born in Hazleton, a son of the late Harry O. and Bessie (Farmer) Kepping.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Johns.
He was a Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany and France.
Surviving with his wife are four sons, Harry T. of Weatherly, Donald of Bloomsburg, William of Hazleton and Thomas of West Hazleton; a daughter, Maybert, wife of Robert Horensky of Drums; five stepdaughters, Joyce, wife of Gordon Minnick, June Midway and Mildred I. Doney, all of Drums, Kathleen, wife of Nicholas Manyko of Hazleton, and Joanne, wife of Jack Justofin of Sugarloaf; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Grace) Keck and Mrs. Margaret Hinkle, both of Drums; 22 grandchildren, a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
Clinton J. Minnich
Clinton J. Minnich, 85, formerly of 253 N. Third St., Lehighton, died Wednesday in the Gnaden Huetten Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton. He was the husband of the late Nellie (Lentz) Minnich, who died Oct. 1, 1966.
He was employed as a bookkeeper for Mann Homes of Allentown for many years until retiring. Prior to that he was employed by Swift and Company of Lehighton, and Calvin Steigerwalt Farm Implement of Andreas.
Born in Lehighton, he was the son of the late Warren and Pearl (Zellner) Minnich.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a life member of the Lehigh Fire Company No. 1, both of Lehighton.
Surviving are nieces.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Rev. Raymond A. Minnich, who died Aug. 4, 1995.

Edward J. Breslin
Edward J. Breslin 49, of 339 E. White St., Summit Hill, died Thursday in Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale. He was the husband of Donna (Reiber) Breslin.
