Mrs. Helen H. Jeffrey
Mrs. Helen H. Jeffrey, 96, of 110 S. Main St., Mary D, died Sunday in her home. She was the widow of Norman N. Jeffrey, who died in 1962.
Born in Aristes, Columbia County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mabel (Miller) Stillwagner.
She was a member of the Advent Lutheran Church, Tuscarora.
Surviving are two daughters, Mabel, with whom she resided, and Gloria, wife of Kenneth Nester of Orwigsburg R.1; a sister Dorothy of Mary D; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Grace L. Gould, who died in 1980; and a great-granddaughter who died in 1995.
The Jon M. Zizelmann Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Eva E.Hirschel Nemeth
Mrs. Eva E. Hirschel Nemeth, 90, of Gracedale, Upper Nazareth Township, died Sunday in the Muhlenberg Hospital Center, Bethlehem. She was the widow of John A. Nemeth and LeRoy Hirschel.
Born in Whitehall Township, she was a daughter of the late Irwin J. and Alma A. (Epler) Wisser.
Surviving are a son, Robert Hirschel of Whitehall; a stepson, Stanley Nemeth of Walnutport; three daughters, Barbara Shanaberger of Coplay, Beatrice Boyer of Allentown and Miriam Duchodni of Salisbury Township; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Gloria and Pearl Hirschel.
Wendell H. Rehrig
Wendell H. "Randy" Rehrig, 81, of 1180 Main Road, Franklin Township, Lehighton, died Saturday morning in the Palmerton Hospital. He was the husband of Mildred (Schweitzer) Rehrig. They observed their 57th wedding anniversary last June 10.
He was a retired weighmaster at the West Plant of the former New Jersey Zinc Company, Palmerton, where he had worked for 37 years.
Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Edwin and Daisy (Liesbenberger) Rehrig, and would have observed his 82nd birthday on Dec. 5.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Big Creek, Franklin Township.
Rehrig was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Asiatiac-Pacific Theater of Operations.
He was a member and secretary of the Poho Poco Rod and Gun Club, Franklin Township, and was a past secretary of the Lehighton Joint School Authority.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter, Cora Ann, wife of Lynwood Carpenter, with whom he resided; a son, Ronald E. of Lehighton; and four grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Clair S., who died in 1995.
The Mayes-Melber Funeral Home, 200 Franklin St., Weissport, is in charge of the arrangements.
Earl W. Shearer
Earl H. Shearer, 59, of Coopersburg, died Friday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown.
He was last employed by Horwith Trucking Company, Northampton.
Born in Shelly, he was a son of the late Ephraim and Jenny (Bergstresser) Shearer.
He was a member of the Coopersburg Fire Company Social Club.
Surviving are two sons, Earl W. Jr. of Coopersburg and Roger of Easton; four daughters, Louise Huhn and Robin Dottery, both of Quakertown, Barbara Miller of Slatington and Elizabeth, with whom she resided; two brothers, Elmer of Coopersburg and Raymond of Quakertown; two sisters, Grace Skrilitz of Quakertown and Helen Kline of Allentown; and 13 grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son William.
Lloyd E. Brown
Lloyd E. Brown, 73, of Saylorsburg, died Wednesday in the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Muriel (Notestine) Brown.
He was an industrial power electrician for Union Metal, East Stroudsburg, for 18 years before retiring in 1988, and previously was a policeman in Stroudsburg for seven years and a Monroe County deputy sheriff for five years.
Born in Pennsboro, W. Va., he was a son of the late Henry Clay and Leida Ann (Todd) Brown.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Stroud Lodge; the Kunkletown Rod and Gun Club; and the National Rifle Association.
Surviving in addition to his widow are two daughters, Gloria J. Shupp of Brodheadsville and Donna M. Murphy of Saylorsburg; a son, William L. of Effort; two stepsons, Thomas I. Bartleson of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Terry Bartleson of Martins Creek; a brother, Billy Joe of Alum Creek, W. Va.; nine grandchildren and nephews.
Mrs. Carl H. Frey
Mrs. Betty J. Frey, 68, of 6459 Bake Oven Road, Germansville, died Friday in her home. She was the wife of Carl H. Frey. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary last month.
A presser and folder, she worked for the former Ambro Mills, Neffs, for 11 years before retiring in 1968, and previously was employed by the former Penn State Mills, Allentown, for 15 years.
Born in Fogelsville, she was a daughter of the late Freddy and Gertrude (Muthard) Brown.
She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Heidelberg Union Church, Heidelberg Township.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Faye L., wife of Anthony A. Manalio of Bridgewater, N.J.; two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Carl of Allentown and Mrs. Minnie Wolford of Neffs; and a grandson.
James D. Jones
James D. Jones, 73, of 1504 Fernwood Road, Slatington, died Thursday in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly S. and Jackie C. Hankee, with whom he resided.
The deceased was the husband of the late Marion E. (LaBold) Jones.
He was a journeyman in the bindery department of the former R & S Printers, Northampton, for 14 years before retiring in 1988.
Born in Slatington, he was a son of the late John and Jeanette (Davies) Jones.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a past adjutant and honor guard for the Allen O. Delke American Legion Post 16, Slatington, for many years, and a member of the former Delke Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Slatington.
Jones was a life member of the Vigilant Fire Company, Slatington, and a member of the Diamond Fire Company, Walnutport.
Surviving are a son, J. Timothy of Slatington; two daughters, Kimberly and Gwyneth A., wife of Ray C. Neff Jr. of Slatington; a brother, Myron E. of Nazareth; a sister, Mrs. Mary D. Yenser of Slatington; and five grandchildren.
Mrs. Carrie I. Koch
Mrs. Carrie I. Koch, 87, formerly of Tamaqua R.3, died Saturday evening in the Orwigsburg Manor, Orwigsburg, where she resided since Aug. 13, 1992. She was the widow of J. Gordon Koch, who died on June 3, 1975.
She was employed by the former Atlas Powder Company, Reynolds, and later co-owned the former New Ringgold Hotel with her husband until 1975.
Born in Reynolds, she was a daughter of the late George E. and Nora I. (Hill) Stamm.
She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, McKeansburg.
Surviving are a brother Raymond of New Ringgold R.2; and a sister, Catherine Slover of Ontario, Calif.
