Mrs. Lillian V. Ripkey
Mrs. Lillian V. Ripkey of 193 S. Fourth St., Lehighton, died Tuesday in
her home. She was the widow of Walter G. Ripkey, who died Nov. 14, 1976.
She worked for Hofford Mills, Weissport, for six years.
Edward J. Moyer
Edward J. Moyer, 39, of 724 Bridge St., Lehighton, was pronounced
dead on arrival Friday at Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. He
was a concrete finisher for various contractors.
Mrs. Dorothy M. Bilder
Mrs. Dorothy M. Bilder of 114 Broad St., Ashland, formerly of
Tamaqua, died Aug. 26 in Ashland Regional Medical Center. She was the
widow of Robert E. Bilder, who died in 1987. Prior to retiring in 1988 she
was employed as a registered nurse at the former Ashland State Hospital.
Sister M. Rose Leo
Sister M. Rose Leo, O.S.F., 82, of the Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road,
Aston, Delaware County, died Monday in the home. She was a registered
nurse.
Helen Billera
Helen Billera, 84, of 515 N. 20th St., Allentown, died Monday in the
Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.
Larry R. Fisher
Larry R. Fisher, 47, of Saylorsburg, formerly of Catasauqua, died
Monday in his home. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Peischl)
Fisher. He was a laborer for building contractors in Monroe and Lehigh
counties for the past 12 years. Fisher was an Army veteran of the Vietnam
War.
Mrs. Stella L. Kovach
Mrs. Stella L. Kovach, 79, formerly of Allentown, died Monday in
Cedarbrook, South Whitehall Township. She was the widow of John P.
Kovach.
Mrs. Mary A. Haldeman
Mrs. Mary A. Haldeman, 83, of 719 N. First St., Lehighton, died
Tuesday in Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. She was the wife
of the late James H. Haldeman who died Dec. 2, 1976.
Mrs. Jean M. Evans
Mrs. Jean M. Evans, 79, of Heights Nursing Home, Shenandoah,
formerly of Middleport, died Wednesday in Ashland Regional Medical
Center, Ashland. She was the widow of Elmer Evans. Prior to retiring she
was employed by Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, as a licensed
practical nurse.

Mrs. Geraldine M.L. Stern
Mrs. Geraldine M.L. Stern, 85, of Kunkletown R.2 died Wednesday in
her home. She was the widow of Frank R. Stern.
Mrs. Robert P. Bolton
Mrs. Ruth E. Bolton, 67, of Effort died Wednesday in her home. She
was the wife of Robert P. Bolton. They observed their 15th wedding
anniversary last January. She was a secretary for Aircomco, Edison, N.J.,
for 30 years before retiring in 1984.
Mrs. Chester A. Hoffman
Mrs. Esther Hope Hoffman, 78, of Hometown, Tamaqua R.2, died
Thursday evening in her home. She was the wife of Chester A. Hoffman.
They were married 53 years. A graduate of Allentown High School in 1936
and Kutztown University in 1940 in elementary education, her first job
was as a teacher in a one-room school in Beartown, Lancaster County. She
later taught first grade in the Perkasie School District. She moved to
Tamaqua in 1961 and taught as a substitute in the Tamaqua area schools.
She was one of the first head start teachers in 1966 in Ss. Cyril and
Methodius School in Coaldale and later in Nesquehoning.
Mrs. Iva S. Rose
Mrs. Iva S. Rose, 87, of Cresco, died Wednesday in the Brookmont
Health Care Center, Effort. She was the widow of Earl S. Rose, who died in
1988. Prior to retiring, she worked for Seguines Dress Store, Stroudsburg;
Rea and Derrick Drugstore, Mountainhome; and the Buck Hill Falls Dress
Shop.
Tony J. Merkel
Tony J. Merkel, 85, of 1485 Hazard Road, Palmerton, died Thursday in
Palmerton Hospital. He was the husband of Helen M. (Vengrin) Merkel. They
observed their 61st wedding anniversary in August. He retired in 1976
after 25 years as a laborer for Bethlehem Steel Corporation and previously
was self-employed in the beer distribution business and bowling alley
business.
Dr. John Solan
Dr. John Solan, 73, of Whitehall Township died Thursday in Lehigh
Valley Hospital Center, Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Kathryn
(Oleksa) Solan. They observed their 45th wedding anniversary in July. He
was a dentist in Whitehall from 1953 until retiring in 1987. A pioneer in
the use of hypnosis for dental procedures, he was elected president of the
Lehigh Valley Society of Hypnology in 1961. The deceased was an Army
veteran of World War II.
