Obituaries by LocationMass of Christian burial for Monsignor Francis J. Taylor, 67, former pastor of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Theresa Church.
He died Saturday, June 7, 1997 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.
Born Sept. 2, 1929 in York, he was a son of the late John Sr. and Stella Duff Taylor.
The monsignor was a graduate of St. Charles College High School, Catonsville, Md. He received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from St. Charles Seminary and a master's degree in education administration from Villanova University, Philadelphia.
He was ordained to the priesthood at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Harrisburg, by the late Bishop George L. Leech in 1954 and appointed honorary prelate (monsignor) by Pope John Paul II on April 10, 1979.
He was involved with the Radio and Television Apostolate on the deanery level in Lancaster and on the diocesan level as a longtime member of the Diocesan Communications Commission. He had been appointed to the Diocesan Respect Life Task Force in 1976 and the Diocesan Commission for Evangelization in 1977.
He was an active leader in marriage encounters and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
He had been assistant pastor of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Harrisburg, a teacher at Harrisburg Catholic High School, now Bishop McDevitt High School and principal of Lancaster Catholic High School. He was associate superintendent of schools, Episcopal Vicar for education and superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Harrisburg.
He also was pastor of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Harrisburg and St Theresa Church before retiring in 1996.
Surviving are three sisters, Stella Stott of Awendaw, S.C., Margaret Krepps of New Oxford, and Rita Fitzpatrick of Red Oak, Texas; two brothers, Deacon John E. of Opelika, Ala. and Charles A. of Clifford Park, N.Y.; 24 nieces and nephews; and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews.
Bishop Nicholas C. Dattilo will preside at Thursday's concelebrated services. Burial will be in the Priest's Circle of Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Swatara Township.
Friends may call from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. An evening vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Efrosini Zarkadas, formerly of 224 Heisers Lane, South Middleton Township, and Mt. Holly Springs, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, in Manor Care Nursing Home, South Middleton Township.
Mrs. Zarkadas was retired from the Deer Lodge, Mt. Holly Springs.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Camp Hill, St. Catherine Philoptoches Society of the church, and Neohoriton Syllogos.
Surviving are her daughter, Vasiliki "Viki" Mallios of Carlisle; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Demetrios Zarkadas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill, with the Rev. George Daskalakis and the Rev. Anthony Demetri officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, North Middleton Township.

Mildred E. Burd, 88, of 128 W. Portland St., Mechanicsburg, died Monday, June 9, 1997 at home.
Born April 20, 1909 in Adams County, she was a daughter of the late George and Susan Spidle Vanasdalan and the widow of James R. Burd, who died in 1987.
Mrs. Burd was retired from Gettysburg Shoe Co., Dillsburg. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg and Mechanicsburg Women's Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Doris Kost of Sebring, Fla.; a brother, Marlin Vanasdalan of Perry, Ga.; a sister, Anna Mummert of Oakland, Md.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday in the Myers Funeral Home, 37 E. Main St., Mechanicsburg with the Rev. Donald J. Ciampa officiating and Wendell S. Junkins assisting. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.

Born March 17, 1914 in California, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Rev. Charles and Clara Gearheart Steerman.
Mrs. DeLancey was a 1931 graduate of Boiling Springs High School and attended the Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing. She was a retired cafeteria manager for the Greenwood School System.
She was a member and former Sunday school teacher at Millerstown United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Retired Teacher's Association, Millerstown Ambulance League, Millerstown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and a charter member of Millerstown Civic Club.
Surviving are her husband, Robert W. DeLancey; three daughters, Marlene C. Leister of Millerstown, Dixie L. Baer of Mechanicsburg and Monta K. Brown of Tacoma, Wash.; a sister, Elma Brugard of Carlisle; a brother Joseph Steerman of Lewistown, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Arthur L. Montgomery and Donald E. Bailor will officiate at Thursday's service. Burial will be in Millerstown Riverview Cemetery.

William J. "Irish" Donovan, 66, of Mechanicsburg, died Monday, June 9, 1997 in Harrisburg Hospital.
Born Nov. 5, 1930 in Arlington, Mass., he was the son of the late William J. and Irene G. Chadborne Donovan.
He was a retired police officer with the Camp Hill Police Department.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg; West Shore Police Association; Fraternal Order of Police; AOH; Irish Heritage Society; Mechanicsburg Club; American Legion Post No. 109 in Mechanicsburg; VFW Post No. 6704 in Mechanicsburg; and Lycoming alumni.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia R. Donovan; a son, William Bruce of Mechanicsburg; two daughters, Colleen Mary Ellermeyer of Punxsutawney and Sharon Irene Donovan Sheridan of Dillsburg; a brother, Bruce Coulson Donovan of Mechanicsburg; and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in his church with the Rev. Chester P. Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill.

She died Sunday, June 8, 1997 at the home of her daughter in Dillsburg.
Born Sept. 15, 1911 in Kittanning, she was a daughter of the late Harry J. and Mary Ethel Henderson Walter and the widow of Samuel H. Myers, who died Aug. 15, 1985.
Mrs. Myers graduated from Kittanning High School in 1928 and Grove City College in 1932. She also studied at Penn State University, Temple University and Dickinson College.
She began her teaching career as a French teacher at Coudersport High School and taught in Ulysses High School and Northern Potter Joint Schools, both Potter County, between 1940 and 1958. She taught French at the former New Cumberland Junior High School in the West Shore School District from 1960 until she retired in 1975.
She was a 50-year member of Eulalia Chapter No. 148 Order of the Eastern Star in Coudersport, past president of both the Ulysses and Potter County Federation of Woman's Clubs, past secretary of Coudersport's New Century Club, member of GFWC Civic Club of New Cumberland, New Cumberland Council of Republican Women, American Association of University Women-Harrisburg, and Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
She was educational director of the Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Ulysses. She was also an active member of Baughman Memorial United Methodist Church and Woman's Bible Class, New Cumberland.
Surviving are a daughter, Judith Ann Myers Kistler of Dillsburg; a sister, Mildred M. Walter Murphy of Kittanning; one granddaughter; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Henderson Walter.
The Rev. Robert A. Graybill will officiate at Friday's services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township.

John F. Marchi, 68, of South Middleton Township, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997 at Hershey Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1928 in Braddock, he was a son of the late Marino and Amelia Leverotti Marchi.
Mr. Marchi, a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a senior master sergeant. He was a self-employed vocational and rehabilitation counselor.
He attended Carlisle Barracks Chapel and was senior vice commander of the VFW in Boiling Springs. He was a member of Boiling Springs Investment Club; Mt. Holly Springs Lions Club; National Rehabilitation Counseling Association; National Rehabilitation Association; American Board of Vocational Experts; International Rehabilitation Institute; Non-Commissioned Officers Association; Air Force Sergeants Association; Retired Enlisted Association; and the New York Academy of Sciences.
He graduated from St. Mary's University, San Antonio, Texas, with a master's degree.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret L. Burke Marchi; a son, John F. Jr. of Easton; a daughter, Camille Marchi of Owings Mills, Md.; and a grandson.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in the Carlisle Barracks Chapel with the Rev. Andrew Fontenelli as celebrant. Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

Darlene M. Rohm, 48, formerly of RD 1, Loysville, Perry County, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997 in Swaim Health Center, West Pennsboro Township.
Born Feb. 20, 1949 in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth G. and Margaret C. Frysinger Rohm.
She was a 1969 graduate of West Perry High School and attended Penns Creek Bible College in Lewistown. She was associated with the Brethren in Christ Church, Ickesburg.
Surviving are three brothers, Keneth G. Jr. of Bluefield, W.Va., Edward E. of RD 1, Landisburg, and Franklin S. of Dillsburg; two sisters, Sandra M. Eklund, of Lewisberry and Jeanette L. Smith of Shermans Dale; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. James R. God officiatng. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
