He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, Anderson, S.C., and attended Bible Baptist Church of Shiremanstown.
He was a junior at Cumberland Valley High School. He was an avid snow skier, mountain biker and baseball player.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Rebecca Evans, at home; a brother, John Chandler Evans, at home; his maternal grandmother, Louise C. Whitfield of Tennessee; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Evans, of Anderson, S.C.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in the Bible Baptist Church of Shiremanstown, 201 W. Main St., with the Rev. Dr. Terry E. Zebulske officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson, S.C.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent James Ryan, 76, of 43 Bullock Circle, Cumberland Crossing, Carlisle, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Marsh Drive, Carlisle.
He died Monday, June 16, 1997 in the nursing home.
Born April 18, 1921 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Marie M. Appenzeller Ryan.
Mr. Ryan was retired from the United States Navy and a Loss Control Engineer for Kemper Insurance Company. He was a veteran of World War II and survived three ship sinkings.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Carlisle; past president of N.E. Region Fleet, Reserve Association, Member Branch No. 106, Mechanicsburg; Third Degree lifetime member of Knights of Columbus, Carlisle; Board of Directors Cumberland Crossing Retirement Community; and Building Committee member of St. Patrick's Church and School Construction.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Dolores M. Stein Ryan; a daughter, Eileen DiRienzo of Bethlehem, Conn.; four sons, Donald of Plainfield, Gerald of Summerville, S.C., Kenneth of Newville and James of Carlisle; a brother, Francis Ryan of Philadelphia; three sisters, Katherine Mather of Abington, Teresa O'Connell of Blackwood, N.J., and Marie Bahry of Richlandtown; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Ryan Jr.
The Rev. Andrew J. Fontanella will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Carlisle.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Daxter Ala Shaffer, 16, of Hampden Township, died Monday, June 16, 1997, in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township, as a result of a traffic accident.
Born July 11, 1980, in Harrisburg, he was the son of Harry P. and Carolyn Shaffer.
He was a junior at Cumberland Valley High School, where he played football. He was also a member of the Hampden Heat Soccer Team.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Tylice M. Marks and Tracie Marks, both of Harrisburg; his maternal grandmother, Marian R. Marks of Greencastle; two nephews and a niece.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 400 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Chester P. Snyder as celebrant.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Upper Allen Township.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Home, 37 E. Main St., Mechanicsburg, with a prayer service recited at 8:30 p.m.

Fred W. Allen, 77, of Cumberland County Nursing Home, Middlesex Township, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, in the home.
Born July 30, 1919, in Massachusetts, he was a son of the late William Howard and Annie Savage Allen.
Mr. Allen was retired from Bethlehem Steel, Steelton.
He was a member of Young's United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 109 and VFW Post 6704, all of Mechanicsburg. He also was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred F. Allen; five daughters, Lucretia Allen of Mechanicsburg, Judy Johnson of Florida, Carol Mann of Dillsburg and Barbara Allen and Debra Roye, both of Carlisle; four sons, William J. and Robert H., both of Mechanicsburg, Ronald F. of Shannon, Ga., and Charles D. of Missouri; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Myers Funeral Home, 37 E. Main St., Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Paul W. Kauffman officiating. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township, Lebanon County, with full military honors.

Born Feb. 3, 1914, in Adams County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Edna Leer Chronister and the widow of Ellis Asper.
Mrs. Asper was a member of Harrisburg Brethren in Christ Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Ella Rothenberger of Harrisburg, Cora Dunn of Leola and Shirley Morales of Orange, N.J.; two sons, Irvin and Clayton, both of Harrisburg; one brother, George Chronister of Harrisburg; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Glenn W. Dalton will officiate at Saturday's service. Burial will be in Air Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg.

John Y. Bear, 76, of 659 Windy Hill Road, Shermans Dale, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, in his home.
Born Sept. 11, 1920, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late John A. and Virgie Yetter Bear.
Mr. Bear was retired from Kinney Shoe Corp., Carlisle.
He was a member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church and was an 8th Air Force veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Ann Hockenberry Bear; two stepsons, Robert Baum of Manassas, Va., and Lee Baum of Gardners; one stepdaughter, Judy Ann Smith of Carlisle; two sisters, Jane H. Bear of Shermans Dale and Grace Steigleman of Carlisle; and three step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church, Carroll Township, Perry County, with the Rev. Peter Beddia officiating. Burial will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, with military honors.

Born Dec. 4, 1915 in Tyrone, he was the son of the late Forrest W. and Merle Grazier Eyer.
Mr. Eyer was a retired engineer of the former Penn Central Railroad.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Marysville.
Surviving are his wife, Ida Mae Welch Eyer; a son, George L. Jr. of Paducah, Ky.; a brother, Forrest E. of Warriors Mark; a sister, Marie Adell Chronister of Florida; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton; a son, James A. Eyer Sr. and a grandson, George L. Eyer III.

Born Sept. 3, 1938, in Southampton Township, Franklin County, he was a son of Evelyn Powell Misner Wenger of Shippensburg and the late Howard E. Misner.
A dairy farmer, Mr. Misner was a member of Orrstown United Brethren Church, Fellowship of Christian Farmers and Pennsylvania Farmers Association.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Joyce E. Shatzley Misner; three sons, David L. and Michael T., both of Shippensburg and Paul B. of Indianapolis, Ind.; two stepsons, Timothy G. Timmons of Shippensburg and Christopher J. Timmons of Orrstown; two stepdaughters, Page Lapinski of Chambersburg and Mary Sanders of Fayetteville; two sisters, Rosalie J. Miller of Shippensburg and Nancy L. Rife of Chambersburg; one half sister, Linda Urgola of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Ann Roles, who died in 1989.
The Rev. Robert P. Conway will officiate at Saturday's service. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.
