David E. Carbaugh Sr., 89, of 450 Booz Road, Newburg, died Thursday, June 26, 1997 in his home.
Born Aug. 6, 1907 in Fayetteville, Franklin County, he was a son of the late Samuel Carbaugh and Emma Gearholt Carbaugh Lawyer and the widower of Alice H. Mixell Carbaugh, who died March 8, 1988.
Mr. Carbaugh, founder of the former Fiddling Dave and The Sage Riders country and western band, was retired after 29 years from Letterkenny Army Depot.
He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, Newburg, and AARP.
Surviving are four sons, Leroy S. of Shippensburg, Martin P. of Newburg, David E. Jr. of Biglerville and William D. of Newburg; a daughter, Betty J. Eyer of Englewood, Fla.; a sister, Beulah Manns of Quincy; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., Shippensburg, with the Rev. J. Roy Bower officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, East Pennsboro Township.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Brian M. Dennis, 28, of 36 W. Willow St., Carlisle, died Thursday, June 26, 1997 in the Hershey Medical Center.
Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle will announce arrangements when complete.

Services for John G. Hanna Sr., 95, of 711 W. Main St., Mechanicsburg, will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Cumberland.
He died Wednesday, June 25, 1997 in Messiah Village, Upper Allen Township.
Born Sept. 4, 1901 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Edward and Emma Britton Hanna and the widower of Helen M. Henry Hanna.
Mr. Hanna was a supervisor for AT&T, Harrisburg.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Cumberland, Bell Pioneers, and a charter member of Lowther Manor Lodge No. 781, F&AM, Camp Hill.
Surviving are a son, John G. Hanna Jr. of Mechanicsburg, and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Richard G. Lorenz will officiate at Wednesday's service. Private burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Township.
Friends may call from 12 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Retired Lt. Col. James Hugh Pitts, 58, of 15 Persimmon Drive, Boiling Springs, died Thursday, June 26, 1997 in Holy Spirit Hospital.
Born March 16, 1939 in Watauga County, N.C., he was the son of the late Allen Hugh and Helen Dotson Pitts.
Mr. Pitts, a graduate of Appalachian High School, Boone, S.C., also graduated from the University of Auburn Air Assault Course and Command and General Staff College. He was a Vietnam veteran and an Army officer for 26 years.
He was awarded the Silver Star (first Oak Leaf Cluster), the Distinguished Flying Cross, Soldier's Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (first Oak Leaf Cluster), the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (with three Bronze Stars), the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, the Legion of Merit, Ranger Tab and the Air Assault Badge.
Surviving are his companion and mother of his daughter, Chaplain Major Mary A. Pitts; a daughter, Amy Katheryn Pitts of Boiling Springs; a brother, Hubert B. of Hickory, N.C.; two sisters, Carol P. Rainey of Tallahassee, Fla. and Diane D. Lambert of Boone, N.C.; and five nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard A. Pitts.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. July 10 at Fort Ritchie Chapel, Fort Ritchie, Md.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at the convenience of the family in Boone, N.C. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of the arrangements.

Services for Fay L. Robinson, 78, of 248 Bradford Drive, Hurst, Texas and formerly of Carlisle, will be held at the convenience of the family.
She died Wednesday, June 25, 1997 in Harris Methodist HEB Hospital, Bedford, Texas.
Born Jan. 23, 1919 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late William C. and Leona Lightner and the widow of George D. Robinson.
Mrs. Robinson was a licensed practical nurse for many years.
Surviving are a son, Dale R. of Hurst, Texas; two daughters, Leslie Arangi of Norfolk, Pa. and Lona Ross of DeBary, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mabel Robinson of Carlisle; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, David L. and George W. Robinson.
Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle. There will be no viewing.

A Mass of Christian burial for Donald R. Sweeney, 64, of 813 1/2 Fairfield St., Monroe Township, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg.
He died Wednesday, June 25, 1997 in Hershey Medical Center.
Born May 7, 1933 in Harrison Township, Mr. Sweeney was retired from the former M.D.S. and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg.
He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey Ann Shane Sweeney; four sons, Jeffrey A. of Tenn., Randi S. of Mechanicsburg; Kelly R. of California and Brian L. of Monroe Township; a daughter, Jodi Lynn Sweeney of Monroe Township; his mother, Ruth Lobaugh of Arnold; three brothers, Wesley of Orlando, Fla., Rodney of California and Merle of Arnold; and a sister, Shirley Jean Moore of Mechanicsburg.
The Rev. Chester P. Snyder will be celebrant for Saturday's service. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg.

Services for Richard L. Daugherty, 62, of 13 Mill Drive, Dillsburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville.
He died Sunday, June 29, 1997 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.
Mr. Daugherty was a fuel subcontractor for Agway of Carlisle.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Dillsburg, and a member and judge for the Antique Automobile Club of America, Hershey.
Surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Boova of New Jersey and Karen Hersh of Dillsburg, and two grandchildren.
Burial will be in Perry Heights Cemetery, Marysville.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Leo A. Fishel, 77, of Hampden Township, died Monday, June 30, 1997 at Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township, Camp Hill.
Born July 4, 1919, in Mechanicsburg, he was a son of the late Lloyd N. Sr. and Ruth I. Miller Fishel
Mr. Fishel was a 1938 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, where he was a member of the band. He retired from the former Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served in the 191st Chemical Warfare Division, he was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Hampden Township; American Legion Post No. 1001, Harrisburg; VFW Post No. 6704, Mechanicsburg; Loyal Order of Moose, Marysville.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret E. Matthews Fishel; two sons, George R. of Shermans Dale and Geoffrey T. of Shavertown; a daughter, Pamela K. Frazier of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Pauline L. of Mechanicsburg; a brother, L. Newton Fishel Jr. of Bowmansdale; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in his church with the Rev. Dr. Richard E. Denison Jr., his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg and from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at his church.
Memorial contributions can be made to his church, 6260 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg 17055 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 2600 N. Third St., Harrisburg 17110.
