He died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997 at home.
Born Aug. 5, 1929 in Newville, he was a son of the late Russell W. and Margaret A. Bloser Stum.
Mr. Stum retired after 26 years of service with Cincinnati Milacron Co. in Carlisle. He had been an officer with Carlisle Borough Police for 11 years.
A Protestant, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had attended Newville High School. He was a member of the Carlisle Eagles Club, the national chapter of AARP and a life member of the National Riffle Association.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Mary G. Hippensteel Stum; two sons, Daryl P. of Batavia, Ill. and David R. of Neffs; one stepson, Robert J. Gardner of Carlisle; two brothers, Walter G. and Clair, both of Carlisle; a sister, Mary L. Clouse of Lewes, Del.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Howard A. Kerstetter will officiate at Thursday's services. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.

Services for Mary E. Stine, 90, of Cumberland County Nursing Home, Carlisle, formerly of 100 Locust St., Shippensburg, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., in Shippensburg.
She died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997 in the home.
Born March 27, 1907 in Shippensburg, she was a daughter of the late Rose Stine.
A Protestant, she was retired from the former Penn Pants Factory in Shippensburg.
She is survived by a cousin, Lois Jean Turner of Hagerstown, Md., and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Gerard J. Kole will officiate at Thursday's service. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.

Services for Creedin S. Gitt, 66, of 416 Limestone Road, Carlisle, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle.
He died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997 in his home.
Born Sept. 24, 1930 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late David and Ruth Hinkle Gitt.
A 1949 graduate of Carlisle High School, Mr. Gitt was retired after 23 years of service as chief master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force with two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a former employee of Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot, Hampden Township.
He was a member of Allison United Methodist Church of Carlisle, Carlisle Y's Men Club, Retiree Council at Carlisle Barracks, Cumberland County Historical Society, Train Collectors Association and formerly a Webelo and Cub Scout leader.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Ursula Bialk Gitt; a son, Lt. Col. Dennis L. of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Diane E. Haligas of Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Raymond of Mt. Holly Springs, Robert of Elizabethtown and Richard of Fredericksburg, Texas; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Robert A. Kaylor and Bishop D. Frederick Wertz will officiate at Saturday's service. Burial will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery.

Services for Blake E. Martin, 68, of Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg.
He died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997 in Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Jan. 14, 1929 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Blake E. and Edna M. Senseny Martin.
A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Martin was a graduate of Chambersburg High School, Shippensburg State College and Dickinson Law School.
He was a retired public defender in Franklin County with 27 years of service. He formerly worked in the law offices of J. Stewart Glen and Crider, Hankins & Martin. After retirement, he was associated with the law office of David C. Cleaver.
He served as president of the Public Defenders' Association from 1979 to 1982 and received the first Gideon Award in 1994.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg and a former Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Martin was also a member of Charles Nitterhouse Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1599; Deitrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612; Elks Lodge 600, from which he received the Citizen of the Year Award in 1993; Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; Alliance Club; Pennsylvania Bar Association; American Heart Association; and Sons of the American Revolution.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Rice Martin; one sister, Nancy L. Martin of Chambersburg; and a foster brother, C. Paul Gladfelter of Chambersburg.
The Rev. Ray L. Kauffman will officiate at Monday's service. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.

Emma Siddall Steever, 82, of Carlisle died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997 at home.
Born Dec. 28, 1914 in Chalfont, Bucks County, she was the widow of Albert W. Steever.
A 1936 graduate of West Chester State Teachers' College, she was a lifelong educator who retired in the early 1980s from Upper Moreland School District.
The Steevers were charter members of Horsham Bible Church, where Mrs. Steever served as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women's Mission Society.
A resident of the Hatboro-Horsham area since the early 1940s, Mrs. Steever moved to Carlisle with her son and daughter-in-law after her husband's death in 1995.
She is survived by her son, Albert W. Steever Jr., and daughter-in-law, Dorothy B. Steever; two grandchildren, Lisa Murphy of Middletown and Jonathan Steever of Indianapolis; and three great-granddaughters.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Horsham Bible Church. Friends may call at the church from noon to 1 p.m.

Alta K. Nolt, 66, of 403 Centerville Road, Newville, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997 at home.
Born Dec. 2, 1930 in Earl Township, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Issac and Katie Kurtz Sensenig.
She was a member of Oakville Mennonite Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jonas W. Nolt; four sons, Mark S. and Edward S., both of Newville, and James S. and Ervin S., both at home; seven daughters, Ruth S. Martin, Rhoda S. Bauman and Wilma S. Gingrich, all of Ontario, Canada, Erma S. Zimmerman and Julia S. Martin, both of Dundee, N.Y., Ellen S. Martin of Newville and Kathryn S. Ramer of Shippensburg; three brothers, Allen K. and Isaac K. Sensenig, both of Ephrata, and John K. Sensenig of Lititz; two sisters, Martha K. Hurst and Katie K. Reiff, both of Lititz; and 42 grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Oakville Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the church Cemetery in North Newton Township.
Friends may call at the Nolt home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. For religious reasons, the family requests no flowers.

Helen M. Conley, 83, of Lynwood, Calif., formerly of Carlisle, died Jan. 1, 1997 at home.
Mrs. Conley was born Oct. 27, 1913 in Carlisle.
Surviving are her husband, Edward Conley, a former serviceman at Carlisle Barracks; one sister, Georgia Corvino of Walnutport, Pa; two daughters, Karen Luke of Mira Loma, Calif., and Renee Larsen of Taylorsville, Utah; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Rose Hills Memorial Park, South Workman Mill Road, Whittier, Calif., on Jan. 6, 1997.
J. Lloyd Zeigler, 78, of 3D Todd Circle, Carlisle, formerly of Highland Avenue, Carlisle, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997 at home.
Born March 5, 1919 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Joseph and Myrtle Ruhl Zeigler.
A graduate of Carlisle High School, Mr. Zeigler received his bachelor's degree from Shippensburg University and his master's from Penn State University.
He was a retired principal for South Dickinson Elementary School, Carlisle.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Carlisle, where he also taught Sunday school; PSEA; and Mora Club of Harrisburg.
He was also a Boy Scout leader for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Irene O. Oliver Zeigler; one son, Lloyd E. of Breezewood; one sister, Evelyn Bankert of Carlisle; and three grandchildren, Kimberley Hanlin, Donna Rosario and Matthew Liess, all of Newville.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Michael V. Minnix officiating.
Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.
