Born Oct. 3, 1934 in Carlisle, he was the son of Marguerite M. Werdebach of Carlisle and the late Louis R. Werdebach.
He was a 1952 graduate of Carlisle High School and earned an associate's degree in business from Harrisburg Area Community College.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he retired after 28 years of service in 1982 with the rank of senior master sergeant. He served in Korea and Vietnam.
He was employed in the advertising department of The Sentinel at the time of his death.
He was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church, LeTort Star Lodge 18 F&AM of Carlisle, Nemrod Consistory of Harrisburg, the U.S. Air Force Sergeants Association and the Sunday School Associations of Carlisle and Cumberland County. He was a member and past president of Carlisle Lions Club, and a member and treasurer of People United Together Inc., Carlisle.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 37 years, the Rev. Edith L. Jackson Werdebach; three sons, Louis of Alexandria, Va., Michael of Augusta, Ga., and Tony of Carlisle; a daughter, Nina L. Johnson of Hampton, Va.; a sister, Beverly J. Hodge of Harrisburg; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Bible Way Church of God in Christ, 223 Walnut St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Robert Woodall and other pastors of the Carlisle area officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Union Cemetery, Carlisle.
Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle. The Letort Star Lodge will hold a memorial service at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the church on Monday from noon until 1:30 p.m.

Arthur Raymond Miller Jr., 69, formerly of Carlisle, died Sept. 1, 1996 in Liberty, Allegheny County.
Born Dec. 25, 1926, he worked in construction most of his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his mother, Carrie Bricker Yohn; his wife, Betty Bitner Miller; five sons, Roger, Kester, and Danny, all of Carlisle, and James and Carl, both of Liberty; a daughter, Maggie Myers, of Carlisle; two brothers, Jack A. of Appalachia, Va., and Richard of San Antonio Texas; and two sisters, Delores Sampson of Carlisle, and Joyce A. Smith of Gardners.
Services were held in the Liberty First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joy Bemant presided. Arrangements were handled by Fosters Funeral Home, Collingswood, Audueon, N.J.
Robert M. "Midge" Nissel, 83, of Mechanicsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.
Born Nov. 11, 1913 in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of the late William J. and Theresa Glass Nissel and the widower of Elizabeth H. Nissel.
He was retired from the former Pennsylvania Truck Lines, Harrisburg, and was a member of Teamsters Local #776, Harrisburg. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are: a daughter, Carol A. Lindsey, of Mechanicsburg, and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Myers Funeral Home, 37 E. Main St., Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Chester P. Snyder officiating.
Interment will be in Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin.

Born Sept. 6, 1913 in Naugatuk, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah Taft Clark and the widow of William H. Koob.
She attended Bible Baptist Church in Shiremanstown and was a member of Mechanicsburg Area Senior Adult Center.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Browne of Homosassa, Fla. and Sally Sprague of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Grace Seaver of Beacon, N.Y.; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Terry Zebulske will officiate at Saturday's services. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Michael L. Theis II, 53, of 103 Lighthouse Drive, Hampden Township, died Friday, Sept. 5, 1997 in Hershey Medical Center.
Born Sept. 8, 1943 in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Michael L. and Marie B. Fletcher Theis.
A graduate of Villanova University of Philadelphia, Mr. Theis was an employee of Pennsylvania Steel Technology, Steelton.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Mechanicsburg and American Iron and Steel Engineers Association.
Surviving are his wife, Frances M. Yeomans Theis; four daughters, Jennifer M. Latimer of Smithfield, N.C., Kristin Knepper of Mechanicsburg and Laura M. and Kathryn E., both at home; one son, Michael L. III, at home; two brothers, Richard and Ronald, both of Philadelphia; two sisters, Barbara Koletty and Marilyn Warner, both of Philadelphia; and one granddaughter.

Born Nov. 22, 1940 in Lykens, he was a son of Sarah Machamer Snyder of Millersburg and the late George Snyder.
A graduate of Lykens High School and Millersville State College, Mr. Snyder was retired from the former Navy Ships Parts Control Center, Hampden Township.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Mechanicsburg Club.
In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife, Catherine E. Hirsch Snyder; one son, Stephen J. of Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, Catherine M. Zimmerman of Carlisle and Deborah A. Pesich of Niger, West Africa; two brothers, George F. of Lykens and Andrew of Millersburg; two sisters, Sarah "Betty" Paul of Lykens and Shirley E. Snyder of Millersburg; five grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.

Kenneth W. Carpenter, 68, of 431 Cornman Road, Carlisle, died Friday, Sept. 5, 1997 at home.
Born July 17, 1929 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Walter and Minnie Barr Carpenter.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Carpenter was retired from Carlisle Tire and Wheel Company with 32 years of service.
He was a former member of Turnpike Ramblers.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Flo Mellott Carpenter; four sons, Ray C. and Randy L. Neidigh, both of Carlisle, and Larry A. "Mike" and Tony R. Neidigh, both at home; two brothers, Robert and George Carpenter, both of Carlisle; two sisters, Mary Wetzel and Thelma Grogan, both of Carlisle; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. William R. Hess officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, North Middleton Township.

David W. Sunday, 74, of Mechanicsburg, died Friday, Sept. 5, 1997.
A 1941 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, Mr. Sunday was a former well driller and a farmer.
Surviving are one son; one daughter; brothers and sisters; and three grandsons and one granddaughter.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
