Born April 30, 1906 in Lurgan Township, Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Annie E. Watson Swanger and the widow of Paul Reese, who died Oct. 9, 1969.
She was a member of Newburg First Church of God, its Willing Workers Sunday School Class, and Jollie Sixties Club. She also was a member of the Franklin County Society of Farm Women Group 3 and the Otterbein Craft Club.
She is survived by four sons, Martin J. of Shippensburg, Chester L. of Newburg, Cyrus J. of Waynesboro, and Richard L. of Gardners; four daughters, Anna May Rotz and Doris J. Wilson, both of Shippensburg, Ruth E. Miley, Pequea, and M. Lucille Shriner, Carlisle; 34 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Oliver H. Reese, who died July 8, 1985.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Newburg First Church of God with the Rev. Michael S. Smith and the Rev. K. Hull Byers officiating. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery, Lurgan Township.
Viewing will be at the church on Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Clara Schmidt, 93, originally of Philadelphia and formerly of State College, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997 at Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle.
Born on Aug. 12, 1904 in Lodz, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Matilda Kenchen Neuman and the widow of Edmund W. Schmidt.
A Lutheran, she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine, Philadelphia.
Surviving are two daughters, Doris S. Harding of Carlisle and Clara Grau of Gettysburg; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jennie Cheeseman and Katie Pusch.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Oakland Cemetery, Philadelphia. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Lenore M. Murrow Trostle, 82, of Loysville, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997 in Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg.
She was born April 25, 1915 in Loysville to the late Dr. William T. and Florence Steele Morrow.
She was a retired home economics teacher for West Perry School District and previously taught at the former Green Park Union High School and the former Landisburg High School, both in Perry County. She also taught in the Newville area.
She received her teaching degree from Mansfield University.
She was a former bank director at the former First National Bank of Loysville, then CCNB, now PNC Bank.
She was a member of Tressler Memorial Lutheran Church, Loysville, where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years, a Ladies Aid member, and former church council member.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph E. Trostle; a brother, William S. Morrow of New Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, G. Thomas Morrow.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in her church with the Rev. John D. Logan and the Rev. E. Levain Fouse officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, Loysville.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Arrangements are being handled by Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville.

Hyrum R. Barker, 73, of 1 West Penn St., Carlisle, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997 in Carlisle Hospital.
Born Dec. 18, 1923 in North Belle Vernon, he was a son of the late Hyrum and Katherine Blacka Barker.
Known as the "Bicycle Man," Mr. Barker was formerly employed by Double J Farms of Carlisle, Palmer Green of Walnut Bottom, Valk Manufacturing of New Kingstown, Giant Food of Carlisle and Twirly Top of Gardners
He also was a former instructor in leather working at Camp Sinoquipe, the Mason Dixon Boy Scout Summer Camp.
There are no immediate survivors.
Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle. Burial will be at noon Tuesday in Rehoboth Cemetery, North Belle Vernon.
There will be no viewing; however, friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Arthur H. Bair Sr., 88, 609 Charles St., Shippensburg, died Thursday Sept. 11, 1997 at home.
Born Aug. 24, 1909 in Columbia, he was a son of the late John and Louise Bair and the widower of Mary Arma Bair, who died April 11, 1992.
He was retired from the U.S. Expansion Bolt Co. in York, where he worked for 50 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg and a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, York. He was also a member of the Fort Morris Chapter of AARP, Shippensburg.
He is survived by a son, Arthur H. Bair Jr., of Fairfax, Va.; a daughter, Mary Louise Orndorff of Shippensburg; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial mass will be celebrated Sunday at 7 p.m. in Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church with the Rev. Larry Sherdel officiating. Entombment will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.
Friends will be received at the church from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Born June 4, 1930 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Michael A. and Alma M. Spadaccoa Liberator.
He graduated from Clifford B. Connelley Vocational High School, Pittsburgh in 1946. He was a retired employee of AMP Inc. in Carlisle with 35 years of service.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle, American Legion, Post 421, Newville and Big Spring Lodge 361 F&AM, Newville, where he was a past Master. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Evelyn R. Mentzer Liberator; three sons, Richard K. Mentzer of Gardners, David L. Liberator of Carlisle and Roger L. Jr. of Shermans Dale; two daughters, Alma M. Garman and Cheryl A. Peiper, both of Carlisle; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Richard A. Ruff will officiate at Monday's services. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, North Middleton Township.

She died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1997 at Bethany Village.
Miss Powell was born June 19, 1907 in Ebensburg, a daughter of the late David and Ellen Elder Powell.
She was retired from the Naval Supply Depot, Mechanicsburg and was a former employee of Army Ordinance Division, York and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Division of Documents.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg and was a promoter for the Central Association of The Miraculous Medal.
Surviving are a niece, Jenine Kristan of Delmont, and a nephew, Lee Mathis of Pittsburgh.
The Rev. Chester P. Snyder will officiate at Monday's mass. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, West Hanover Township.

Born April 22, 1922 in Carlisle Springs, he was the son of the late Harvey E. Sr. and Tressie Goodling Sheaffer.
He was a self-employed stonemason having worked for Harvey E. Sheaffer and Sons and retired from A.C. Kuhn, Inc. He was a member of St. Matthias Lutheran Church, Carlisle Springs and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Martha Gutshall Sheaffer; two sons, Lloyd E. of Carlisle and Lynn S. of Mechanicsburg; two daughters, Barbara Garman of St. Mary's, Ga. and Judy Snyder of Carlisle; four brothers, Arthur, Harvey, Jr., the Rev. Sterlen, and Paul, all of Carlisle; four sisters, Dorothy Sheffer of Boiling Springs, Sarah Ludt and Ruth Hoy, both of Carlisle, and Mary Ilgenfritz of Valparaiso, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Sarah A. Heintzelman will officiate at Saturday's services. Burial will be in Kutz's Cemetery, Middlesex Township. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
