He died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, in Carlisle Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1930 in Adams County, he was a son of the late Delmar and Esther Beam Starner.
Mr. Starner was retired from PennDOT as a foreman with 32 years of service and also retired from refrigerator maintenance with Knouse Foods, Gardners plant, after six years of service.
He was a Republican committeeman for Dickinson Township; a member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Goodyear; Sheriff's Association; National Rifle Association; Upper Adams, Adams County and Mt. Holly Springs Fish and Game associations; and Biglerville Historical and Preservation Society.
Surviving are his wife, Helen M. Cline Starner; two sons, Leslie D. of Gardners and Lynn R. of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Lloy Brough of Gardners; eight brothers, Allen, Lowell, Galen, Larry, Sherle, Terry, Barry, and Benny; two granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Starner Bender, who died Dec. 11, 1995.
The Rev. Kenneth G. Swick will officiate at Wednesday's service. Burial will be in Goodyear Cemetery, Dickinson Township.

Robert E. Maxwell, 74, of 8 Fritz Ave., Duncannon, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 at his home.
He was born Jan. 10, 1923 in Duncannon, the son of the late Jesse and Catherine Roth Maxwell.
A retired employee of Conrail and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and VFW Post 255, both in Duncannon.
He is survived by his wife, Giovanna "Jackie" Ciravegna Maxwell, two sons, Ronald R. of Middletown and Donald L. of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Elnora Kulp of Duncannon; and two granddaughters.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday 10 a.m. in his church with the Rev. John F. Greaney officiating. Burial will be in Duncannon with military honors.
Friends will be received Friday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon.

Leona M. Lebo, 70, of 7 Windcroft Court, Carlisle died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997 in Thornwald Home, Carlisle.
Born March 15, 1927 in Mt. Holly Springs, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Sarah M. Nickel Keller and the widow of Stuart E. Lebo Sr.
She was a 1945 graduate of Carlisle High School and a member of First United Church of Carlisle.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas M. of Carlisle, Stuart E. Jr. of Scofield, Wis. and Mark J. of Harrisburg; a sister, Carol Nickle of Carlisle; two brothers, Maurice Keller and Clarence Keller, both of Carlisle; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle with the Rev. Lynn R. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, North Middleton Township.
Friends may call Saturday from 1-2 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorial services for Helen Smith MacFarlane, 81, of 404 Bethany Drive, Mechanicsburg, formerly of Paxtang, Camp Hill and Fairview Township, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Baughman Memorial United Methodist Church, Third and Bridge streets, New Cumberland.
She died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997 in Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg.
Mrs. MacFarlane was retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Health and Welfare, Harrisburg, and was an Avon representative. She was a graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg.
She was a member of Baughman Memorial United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women and women's Bible class. She was a former member of Epworth United Methodist Church and past chair of Camp Hill Republican Women.
Surviving are her husband, John W. MacFarlane Sr.; a stepson, John W. Jr. of Coraopolis; two grandchildren; and a nephew.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

Graveside services for Joan A. Potter, 65, of 208 Towpath Road, Duncannon, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Cemetery, Duncannon.
She died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.
Born Sept. 14, 1932 in Penn Township, Perry County, she was a daughter of Viola M. Barnett Cunkle of Duncannon and the late John E. Cunkle. She was the widow of Ray H. Potter.
Mrs. Potter was a retired employee of Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.
In addition to her mother, surviving are three sons, John C., Jeffrey L., and Jeremy A., all of Duncannon; two sisters, Mary L. Wright and Judy A. Johnson, both of Duncannon; and five grandchildren.
There will be no viewing or visitation. The Rev. Bernard Fortna will officiate at Friday's service.

Harry G. Cornman, 86, 1149 Easy Road, Carlisle and formerly of Porter Avenue, Carlisle, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997 in Sarah Todd Memorial Home, 1000 W. South St., Carlisle.
Born Dec. 20, 1910 in Adams County to the late Charles and Mable Adams Cornman, he was the widower of Myrtle "Pete" Wilson Cornman.
He was retired from New Cumberland Army Depot and was also employed by the Carlisle Shoe Co., Carlisle Ice House, and Carlisle Barracks. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1299, Carlisle.
Surviving are two daughters, Carrie E. Raudabaugh of Carlisle and Delores Kipps of Del City, Okla.; a brother, Credin Cornman of Carlisle; two sisters, Christine Evans and Elizabeth Miller, both of Carlisle; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., with the Rev. Al Ham officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Hannah Mae Gernert, 77, of Mechanicsburg, formerly of Columbia Cross Roads, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997 at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle.
She was born Jan. 6, 1920 in Shamokin, a daughter of Harry and Frances Savage Yoder and the widow of William G. Gernert, to whom she was married for 40 years.
She attended the Pentecostal Tabernacle of Elmira, N.Y. She was an avid Mets fan and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and collecting clocks.
Surviving are a son, David Gernert of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Harry "Bud" Yoder of Pitman; a sister, Alberta Slear of Northumberland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Yoder and Eleanor Creal, and two brothers, Daniel and Arthur Yoder.
Friends may call at the Gerald W. Vickery Jr. Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St., Troy, today from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.
Interment will be in the family Cemetery in Columbia Cross Road. The Rev. John Bedzyk will officiate.
