He died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997 in the Thornwald Nursing Home, Carlisle.
He was born March 23, 1907 in Blain, a son of the late Harry D. and Carrie J. Sowers Hench and the widower of Edith D. Wise Hench.
Mr. Hench retired from the Blain branch of the Bank of Landisburg in 1980 after 51 years of service. He resigned as a director on the board and past president of the Bank of Landisburg in September 1994.
He was a 1925 graduate of the former Blain Vocational High School and a member and past president of the school board.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Blain, member and past treasurer of the Perry County Republican Club, member and past president of the Cumberland-Perry Bankers Association, charter member and past president of the Blain Lions Club and a charter member of the Fairview Hunting Camp.
He also was a member of Blain Fire Company, Odd Fellow Lodge 706 of Blain, Loyal Order of Moose 925 of Millerstown, Adams Lodge 319 F&AM of New Bloomfield, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Juniata Valley Forest 88, Harrisburg Consistory, and Zembo Temple, Harrisburg.
Surviving are three sons, John W. Jr., and Lloyd D., both of Shiremanstown and Ray E. Hench of Blain; a daughter, Joann W. Motter of Gettysburg, nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth E. Rohm, and three brothers, Harold B., Galand E., and Lester S. Hench.
The Rev. Miriam L. Nicholson will officiate at Saturday's services. Burial will be in Blain Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

Naomi M. "Sid" Koser, 90, of 221 W. Main St., Mechanicsburg died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997 in Holy Spirit Hospital.
Born Aug. 4, 1907 in Mechanicsburg, she was the daughter of the late Philip A. and Blanche Ebert Koser.
Retired from the former Mechanicsburg Ships Parts Control Center, Hampden Township, she was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Myers Funeral Home, 37 W. Main St., Mechanicsburg. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hampden Township. Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

Services for James G. Kyper Jr., 55, of Blue Ridge Haven-West, East Pennsboro Township, will be held Sunday at 8 p.m. in Shepherdstown United Methodist Church, 1934 S. York St., Mechanicsburg
He died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997 at Community General Hospital, Lower Paxton Township.
He was affiliated with the Shepherdstown United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a brother, David F. Kyper of Grantham, two nieces and one nephew.

Pearl K. Shambaugh, 86, of Monroe Township, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997 in Harrisburg Hospital.
Born on March 27, 1911 in Harrisburg, the daughter of the late Edward R. and Grace L. Shaffer Shambaugh, she was retired from Kinney Shoe Corp., Shiremanstown.
She is survived by two sisters, Irma Bentz and Thelma Peffer, both of Manchester, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Trindle Spring Cemetery, Silver Spring Township, with the Rev. William C. Butts officiating.
There will be no viewing or visitation. Myers Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, is handling the arrangements.
Lillie R. Wagner, 98, of Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Middlesex Township, formerly of Dillsburg, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997 at the center.
She was born Nov. 25, 1898 in Franklintown, the daughter of the late George L. and Rebecca M. Arnold Wagner.
She was a retired Cashier for PP&L and was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Filey's of Dillsburg.
She is survived by two nephews, Wayne E. Myers Sr. and Clair Wagner, and three nieces, Dorothy Meyers, Beatrice Schrum and Thelma Wagner, all of Dillsburg.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Cocklin Funeral Home, 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg with her pastor, the Rev. David L. Smith, officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation. Burial will be in Filey's Cemetery.

Services for Charles M. Fogelsanger, 68, of 33 Maple Ave., Walnut Bottom, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., Shippensburg.
He died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997 in Carlisle Hospital.
Born May 27, 1929 in Walnut Bottom, he was a son of the late Lester E. and Mary A. Fehl Fogelsanger. He was the widower of Leah Meals Fogelsanger, who died Nov. 11, 1986.
Mr. Fogelsanger was employed by Martin M. Fehl & Sons, Walnut Bottom. He served in the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes in the 1940s and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Walnut Bottom; Hub City Club; South Newton Township Volunteer Fire Company; Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223; Durff-Kuhn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6168; and Walnut Bottom Rod and Gun Club.
Surviving are one son, Calvin J. of Walnut Bottom; one daughter, Christine R. Riegel of Shippensburg; one brother, Lester D. of Newville; four sisters, Zelona F. McBeth, Dora K. Lautsbaugh and Violet E. Frehn, all of Walnut Bottom, and Linda R. Nenninger of Shippensburg; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mabel A. Karper, 91, of Shippensburg Health Care Center, formerly of Shippensburg Mobile Estates, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997 in the center.
Born Aug. 29, 1906 in Hopewell Township, she was a daughter of the late John and Phoebe C. Kohr Bistline. She was the widow of Bruce Mose Karper, who died July 1, 1974.
Mrs. Karper was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church and its ladies' Bible class.
Surviving are two sons, Jason D. of Chambersburg and Bruce M. of Newville; four daughters, Viola C. Rockwell of Chambersburg, Janet L. Reed of Waynesboro, Mabel A. Lautsbaugh of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Jane Harvey of Jackson, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Edward N. Karper, who died Nov. 21, 1968, and three sisters and one brother.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., Shippensburg, with the Rev. L. Fitzgerald Reist officiating.
Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg.

Evelyn N. Riggs, 90, of Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, 1000 W. South St., Carlisle, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997 in the home.
Born July 8, 1907 in Enhaut, she was a daughter of the late William A. and Clara C. Neubaum Lowder. She was the widow of John S. Riggs.
A 1926 graduate of Steelton High School, Mrs. Riggs was a retired employee of the former Bowmans Department Store in Carlisle and also was a seamstress for Banner Dress Co., Harrisburg.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carlisle, and Order of Eastern Star, Bellaire Chapter 375. She also had taught Sunday school at the former Otterbein United Brethren Church, Boiling Springs.
Surviving are two sons, John L. of Lansdale and William T. of Carlisle; one daughter, Nancy E. Riggs Mullen of Newville; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles E. Riggs.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Eric J. Shafer officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery, Mt. Holly Springs.
