E. Wade Butler Sr., 76, of Mechanicsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997 in his home.
Born June 3, 1921 in Moosie, he was a son of the late John James and Lucy Leopard Butler and the widower of Ann W. Butler.
Retired from the former Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot, Mr. Butler was a member and Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg.
Surviving are two sons, E. Wade Jr. of Baltimore, Md. and Wilson, N.Y., and Marty F., at home; a brother, James J. of Hyattsville, Md.; two sisters, Agnes Garvey of Scranton and Lucy King of Northridge, Calif.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 E. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Chester P. Snyder as celebrant. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Upper Allen Township.
There will be no viewing; however, friends may call from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions can be made to his church, P.O. Box 2012, Mechanicsburg 17055.

A funeral liturgy for Ann E. Smith, 74, of York, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 309 S. George St., York.
She died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997 in York Hospital.
Born July 13, 1923 in New Oxford, she was a daughter of the late Frank I. and Margaret Lowe Smith.
A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Miss Smith attended Bell Senior Center.
Surviving are a brother, David of Alamonte Springs, Fla.; a sister, Rene Bear of Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Michael C. Letteer will officiate at Thursday's service. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, New Oxford.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Baumeister, Orcutt & Small Mortuaries, York, is handling arrangements.

Gordon E. Miller, 83, of 3 Heath St., Lincoln Estates, Gettysburg, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997 in The Shepherd's Choice.
Born Aug. 31, 1914 in York, he was a son of the late John W. and Minnie Zeigler Miller and the widower of Nellie Linn Weibly Miller, who died in 1994 after 35 years of marriage.
Mr. Miller formerly owned and operated a grocery store in Mechanicsburg. He attended Open Door Church of Chambersburg.
Surviving are his stepdaughter, Leone Secrist of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Bertie Minichbach Stowe of Berks County, Ethel Flinchbaugh and Guyla Pardue, both of York; a brother, Norman of York; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dugan Funeral Home, 111 S. Main St., Bendersville, with the Rev. E. Edward Keyser officiating. Burial will be in Bendersville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Sarah Jane Phelabaum, 80, of 538 First Street, Carlisle, were held at the convenience of the family.
She died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997 at the Carlisle Hospital.
Born June 20, 1917 in Perry County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Addison and Sarah F. Bear Wolfe and the widow of William Phelabaum.
Surviving are two daughters, Nina M. Bayer and Marie A. Carr of Carlisle; three sisters, Emma McClintock, Mildred Morrison and Mary Reisinger, all of Carlisle; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nona Phelabaum.
The Rev. Gerald J. Kole officiated at funeral services. Burial was in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Services for Martha M. Rexroth, 87, of 24 W. Hanover St., Biglerville, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dugan Funeral Home, 111 S. Main St., Bendersville.
She died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997 in Gettysburg Hospital.
Born Nov. 3, 1909 in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of the late George and Barbara E. Funt Wampler and the widow of Harold E. Rexroth, who died in 1968.
Mrs. Rexroth had been employed by the former Rice, Trew & Rice Co., now Inland Container Corp., Biglerville, for many years.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Biglerville.
Surviving are two daughters, Helen M. and Darlene R., both of Biglerville; a son, Earl L. of Tucson, Ariz.; one grandson; and five great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Joel L. Zeiders will officiate at Tuesday's service. Burial will be in Biglerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Benjamin F. Sheriff, 76, formerly of East Locust Street, Mechanicsburg, will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg.
He died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997 at Cumberland County Nursing Home, Middlesex Township.
Born Dec. 13, 1920 in Carlisle, a son of the late Joseph F. and Fianna Fuller Sheriff, he was retired from the former Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot, Hampden Township.
Mr. Sheriff was a member of American Legion Post 109 and a founding member of The Mechanicsburg Museum Association. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys R. Kimmel Sheriff; a stepdaughter, Mary J. Snyder of Mechanicsburg; a stepson, Scott M. Koser Jr. of Gaithersburg, Md.; two brothers, Charles W. and Seth R. of Mechanicsburg; two sisters, Mae Hartman of Mechanicsburg and Mary Neidig of Carlisle; five step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Township. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Mechanicsburg Area Foundation, P.O. Box 312, Mechanicsburg 17055.

Mary M. Shuman, 84, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997.
Born Oct. 26, 1913 in Hazelton, she was the widow of Joseph Shuman.
Mrs. Shuman was retired from the Navy Ship Yards, Brooklyn, N.Y.
Surviving is her sister, Helen of Hazelton.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. John Kratz officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hampden Township.
Friends may call from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

James W. Chamberlin, 72, of 265 Newburg Road, Newburg, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997 at home.
Born Feb. 13, 1925 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Urie and Blanche Rotz Chamberlin.
Mr. Chamberlin retired in 1986 from Shippensburg University, where he was head custodian at Heiges Field House.
He was a member of Middle Spring Presbyterian Church and Fort Morris Chapter AARP. He was a life member of Vigilant Hose Company and Cumberland Valley Hose Company, both of Shippensburg ,and a life member and charter member of Newburg Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes Means Chamberlin; a son, James E. "Ed" of Newburg; two daughters, Janice C. Ile of Newburg and Brenda K. Fink of Shippensburg; two brothers, Berkley L. and M. Dean, both of Shippensburg; two sisters, Bertha Yocum of Newburg and Sarah Heefner of Shippensburg; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, 135 Middle Spring Road, Shippensburg, with the Rev. James R. Richwine and the Rev. Lois Richwine officiating. Burial will be in Middle Spring Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg, is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions can be made to his church or to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg 17201.
