Born Jan. 27, 1935 in Carlisle, where he lived most of his life, he was a son of Frank E. Evans Sr. of Harrisburg and the late Sarah Jane Hinton Evans, who died in 1953.
He had been employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and was also a construction worker for Alexander's Interior and Lambert Interior in Harrisburg.
He was a former member of the West Street AME Zion Church in Carlisle and a social member of the Haines-Stackfield American Legion Post 826 in Carlisle.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Margaret A. Campbell Evans; four sons, James W. Jr. of Steelton, Thomas E.S., Reginald S. and Alonzo F. II, all of Harrisburg; two daughters, Pandora L. Middleton of Harrisburg and Vonda Ardrey of Newport News, Va.; four brothers, Robert of Lancaster, Alonzo F. and William of Harrisburg and Charles of Steelton; three sisters, Helena Turner of Oberlin, Mercedes Thomas of Harrisburg and Barbara Slaughter of Chambersburg; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald B., who died in 1959, and a brother, Frank E. Jr., who died in 1990.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with the Rev. Rosemary Harvey and the Rev. Albert Belton officiating.
Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in West Pennsboro Township.
Friends may call Thursday at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services for Lloyd Minnich Fahnestock, 83, of 2474 McDowell Road, St. Thomas and formerly of Carlisle, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in First Church of the Brethren, 1340 Forge Road, Carlisle.
He died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997 at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born March 25, 1914 in Rothville, he is the son of the late Adam G. and Susan R. Minnich Fahnestock.
Retired from Atlantic Richfield Corp., Mechanicsburg, he was a member of Dry Run Church of the Brethren and a former deacon, trustee, and music director at Lower Cumberland Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Alma R. Lebo Fahnestock; four sons, L. Roy of St. Thomas, Dale B. of York, Dean O. of Carlisle and John A. of Pottstown; a daughter, Ruth N. Miller of Newmanstown; a sister, Fern Ness of York; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul L.; a sister, Leota Fahnestock; a granddaughter; and an infant brother.
The Rev. Ralph Schildt and Rev. Fred Miller will officiate at Friday's services. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Township.

Funeral services for Merle R. Hummel, 73 of 2244 Newville Road, Carlisle, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Newville Church of the Brethren.
He died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997 in the Manor Care Health Services, Carlisle.
Born April 3, 1924 in Marysville, he was the son of the late Levi F. and Laura Smee Hummel.
A retired employee of Montgomery Ward, Carlisle, Mr. Hummel was co-owner of the former Newville Television Co. and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Newville Church of the Brethren, where he was a deacon for 38 years, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the chancel choir, and served on many commissions.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Marietta Martin Hummel; two daughters, Joyce S. Krug of Pequea and Terry H. Hinzman of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a sister, Martha H. Weigle of Carlisle; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Greg Beach and the Rev. David Wilson will officiate at Wednesday's services. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.

Edith M. Kitner, 85, resident of Church of God Home, Carlisle and formerly of Redwood Drive, Carlisle, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997 in Carlisle Hospital.
Born May 20, 1912 in Swengel, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Edith Kleckner Knauss and the widow of Maynard L. Kitner.
She was a 1930 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and a 1935 graduate of Geisinger School of Nursing, Danville. A registered nurse for the Carlisle Pediatric Center, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Carlisle.
Surviving are a son, Michael L. Kitner of Carlisle and a daughter, Jo Ann Kitner of Harrisburg.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St. with the Rev. Michael V. Minnix officiating.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Westminster Memorial Gardens, North Middleton Township.
There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born Feb. 24, 1995 in Harrisburg to Timothy S. Leidy and Roseann Cornman of Lemoyne.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Ronald E. and Phyllis Weller Leidy of Gilbertsville; his maternal grandmother, Carol Cornman of Carlisle; and his maternal great-grandfather, Earl H. Cornman of Carlisle.
Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, North Middleton Township.

Born Jan. 24, 1919 in Newville, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Jenny Yeignst Keck and the widow of Richard Markley.
She was retired from Carlisle Container Co.
She is survived by a son, Robert L. Huntsberger of Newville; a daughter, Lisa J. Markley of Newville; two brothers, Donald and Luther Keck, both of Newville; a sister, Jeanette Finkenbinder of Newville; and three grandsons.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
The Rev. Russell D. Higginbotham officiated at funeral services. Burial was in Huntsdale Cemetery, Penn Township.
Edward Brooks Reeder, 71, of Silver Spring Township, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.
Born Aug. 27, 1926 in Dallastown, the son of the late Brooks S. and Kathleen Nesbitt Reeder, he was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School.
Mr. Reeder was retired from the state Public Utility Commission. He was treasurer of Silver Spring Township Authority, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the U.S. Army National Guard.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Harrisburg, where he was property chairman and a council member. He also belonged to Eureka Lodge 302 F&AM, Mechanicsburg Club, VFW Post 6704 and American Legion Post 109, all of Mechanicsburg, and Harrisburg Consistory, Cumberland County Shrine, Zembo Shrine Temple, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 43.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Stambaugh Reeder; three daughters, Kathy R. Dunn of Dauphin, Marty R. Morris of New Bloomfield and Eddie R. Adams of Ephrata; a brother, Charles R. of Carlisle; a sister, Betty R. Farence of Mechanicsburg; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael L. Heckathron officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Landisburg.
Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Myers Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. A Masonic service will be held Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary E. Rudy, 53, of 620 Lewisberry Road, New Cumberland, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997 at home.
Born July 8, 1944 in Lancaster to the late Richard and Mary E. Rudy Williams, she was a former waitress and owner of the Engleside Diner, Lancaster.
She was previously employed at Toys R Us, Camp Hill and at Duke Convalescent Center, Lancaster, as a nurse's aide.
She is survived by her husband, George D. "Bud" Rudy; three daughters, Tina M. Turner of Narvon, Stacy L. Reynolds and Renee L. Blazer, both of York Haven; two sons, Kenneth E. Rowe of Lancaster and Randolph S. Rowe of York; two stepdaughters, Susan A. Rudy of Carlisle and Cathy A. Miller of Willow Grove; a brother, Thomas Williams of Willow Street; 10 grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland with the Rev. Timothy L. Hoffman officiating.
