Born Dec. 8, 1928 in Mahanoy City, he was retired from the former Navy Ships Parts Control Center, Hampden Township. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Englis Wertz; two sons, John and Mark L. of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Lisa L. Shoemaker of St. Peters, Mo.; his mother, Priccilla Kasper Wertz of Mahanoy City; three sisters, Margie J. Rooney of Springfield, Cathy Chambers of Seneca and Ann Myers of Pittsgrove, N.J.
Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville with full military honors.
Friends may call from 10:30 until 11 a.m. Dec. 29 in the funeral home.
Funeral services and burial for James R. Griffin, 26 of 139 S. Pitt St., Carlisle, will be held in Arlington National Cemetery.
He died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997 in Hershey Medical Center.
Born March 21, 1971 in Enterprise, Ala. to Jimmy Griffin of Florida and Lee Wheeler of Carlisle, he was a graduate of Baumholder American High School, Baumholder, Germany and attended the Colorado School of Mines and the University of Colorado.
Mr. Griffin served with the U.S. Army in Saudi Arabia and the Colorado National Guard with the Green Berets. He was a team leader at Lear Corp., Carlisle.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Tomoko Nakamura Griffin; a son, James Ryu Griffin; his stepfather, Garry F. Wheeler of Carlisle; a sister, Kathryn Kercher of Carlisle; maternal grandparents, Norman and Mary Herrin of Enterprise, Ala.; and paternal grandparents, L. F. and Carrie Griffin of Enterprise.

Charles Uriah Hamilton, 90, formerly of South Baltimore Avenue, Mt. Holly Springs, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997 at Sarah Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle.
Born Nov. 9, 1907 in Adams County, he was a son of the late John and Barbara Powell Hamilton. He retired from the former Eaton-Dikeman Co., Mt. Holly Springs.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Elizabeth Riley Hamilton; six daughters, Ruth Reichert and Nellie Reynolds of York Springs, Margie Murray and Pearl Arnsberger of Mt. Holly Springs, Shirley Weidner and Patricia Griffie of Gardners; three sisters, Margarite Noel of McSherrystown, Jessie Noel of Bonneaville and Alice Kennedy of Gardners; 20 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles U. Jr., and two brothers, Glenn and Raymond.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Gibson-Hollinger Funeral Home, 501 N. Baltimore Ave., Mt. Holly Springs, with the Rev. Kenneth G. Swick officiating.
Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Gettysburg. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

He died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997 in his home.
Born Dec. 21, 1932 in York to the late John A. and Mabel Meisenhelter Lehr, he was a graduate of North York High School and was retired from Sprint after 30 years of service.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Independent Telephone Workers of America.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Marian L. Miller Lehr; a son, Jon P. of Carlisle; two daughters, Karen Klersy of Bangor and Lynne Cheffins of Carlisle; two brothers, Ted of York and Jay of Southern Pines, N.C.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lisa A. Lehr, three brothers and three sisters.
The Rev. Richard A. Ruff and the Rev. Sharon F. Kelly will officiate at Friday's services. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.
There will be no viewing, however, friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday in the church.

Funeral services for Lehman E. Strawser Sr., 79, of 2340 Ritner Highway, Carlisle, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Brethren in Christ Church.
He died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997 in Carlisle Hospital.
Born on Jan. 2, 1918 in McAlisterville to the late Lee E. and Pearl E. Stuck Strawser, he attended Stony Run School and was a member of the school band. He owned and operated dairy and poultry farms and also a hatchery in McAlisterville.
After moving to Carlisle in 1956, he established a business in construction and mechanical contracting. He was an active member of the Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church and its Sunday school class, and was also involved in missions work.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Ruth Eleanor Ehrenzeller Strawser; four sons, Lehman Jr. of New Bloomfield, Larry of Carlisle, Donald E. and Ronald G., both of Huntingtown, Md.; two daughters, Ruthann Stansfield of Newville and Suzanne Renno of Lancaster; two sisters, Ruth M. Stuck and Orpha M. Strawser, both of McAlisterville; 27 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Kenneth O. Hoke will officiate at Saturday's services. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

Gladys E. Alexander, 92, of 1906 Maple St., New Cumberland and formerly of Marysville, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born Aug. 27, 1905, in Cambridge, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Carolyn Reidell Martin. She was the widow of Robert C. Alexander.
She was a retired clerk for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Surviving are a son, Robert M. Alexander of Cleveland; a daughter, Ann Lebo of New Cumberland; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Thomas R. Springer officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Marysville.

Ruby K. Dice, 84, of 265 Duncan Road, Shippensburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, in Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Dec. 22, 1913, in Pleasant Hall, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Mabel Hammond Newton.
A 1932 graduate of Chambersburg High School, Mrs. Dice was a member of Prince Street United Brethren Church and its Golden Rule Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Roy J. Dice; two sons, Harold E. of Fredricksburg and Merle A. of Shippensburg; a daughter, Gladys L. Bender of Shippensburg; a sister, Abbie Heck of Shippensburg; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., Shippensburg, with the Rev. Garry L. Culler officiating. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Greene Township, Franklin County.

Argoretta M. Lute, 74, of North Middleton Township died Dec. 22, 1997, at her granddaughter's home in Fairview Township.
Born Feb. 12, 1923, in Liverpool, she was the daughter of the late McKinley and Ruth Cauffman Foltz.
She was a graduate of Mechanicsburg High School and retired from Piezo Crystal Plant in Carlisle after 22 years of service.
Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Richard Lute, of 8 Heather Drive, North Middleton; a son, Carl L. Johnson of Glen Burnie, Md.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Sandra Schultz officiating. Burial will be at convenience of the family.
