Robert Lee Sharpe, 63, of Penbrook, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003, in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital.
Born in Johnstown, PA on May 13, 1939, he was the son of the late Ray C. and Leona Sharpe. He retired after 39 years of service from the Commonwealth of PA Department of Revenue. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a Life Member of the Penbrook Fire Company and an Officer of the Penbrook Fire Police.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carolyn Ann whom he married on September 25, 1965; one son, Robert L. Sharpe, Jr., at home and a grandchild, Sabrina Renee Sharpe, of Harrisburg.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family in Apollo. Friends will be received in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, Tuesday, April 15, 2003 from 7 to 9 PM. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 8 PM with Frank Fonner, Chaplin, Progress Fire Company officiating.

E. BERYL PATRICK
Esther Beryl Firestone Patrick, 96, of Hill Farm Estates, Annville, and formerly of Hershey, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.
Born in Carroll Township, York County, on September 28, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma Wetherald Firestone. She was a homemaker, and was formerly employed by the Hershey Chocolate Corporation. She was a member of Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren, West Hanover Township. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, quilting, and reading. She donated many of her doilies for sale at the District Relief Auction of the Church of the Brethren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. Norman W. Patrick, on February 25, 2002.
She is survived by one son and his wife, Roy E. and Miriam Keeney Patrick of Palmyra; one daughter, Sylvia P. wife of Robert L. Heffley of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence P. Keller, on May 22, 1962.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 15 at 2:00 PM in the Hanoverdale Church of the Brethren, 577 Hershey Road, West Hanover Township, with The Rev. Fred L. Bieber, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Hanoverdale Cemetery, West Hanover Township. Friends are invited to call on Monday, April 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, and on Tuesday in the church from 1:00 PM until time of the services.

LLOYD J. CARNEY
Lloyd J. Carney, 85, of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2003, in the Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Scranton, Orange County, Kansas, on July 21, 1917, he was the son of the late James and Ida Montgomery Carney. He was a truck driver for the former Curry’s Fuel Oil, Hershey; was a bus driver for Lower Dauphin School District; and had worked in the baggage room of the former Pennsylvania Railroad. He was an Army veteran of World War II who participated in the defense of Pearl Harbor during its attack. He enjoyed working on cars.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy I. Nye Carney, whom he married on April 8, 1949; and three nieces, Jeannie, Carol and Sharon all of Salina, Kansas.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Monday, April 21, 2003, at 11:30 AM in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with The Rev. Alan C. Wenrich, pastor of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown, officiating. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.
M. ELIZABETH ALEXANDER
M. Elizabeth “Betty” Jones Hepner Alexander, 85, of Rutherford, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at her residence.
Born in Herndon on May 3, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Susanna Jones Hepner. She retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation; and was a clerk at the former Finney’s Food Market, Rutherford. She was a volunteer at the Evangelical Congregational Church Retirement Village, Myerstown, and Dauphin Manor, Swatara Township. She was a graduate of the former Herndon High School. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church and its Helping Hands Sunday School Class. She was a Past President and member of the Harrisburg Welsh Society, and was a member of the Olive Veterans Club. She was a former timekeeper for the Rutherford Swim Team, and a former Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed doing crafts, watching butterflies, and going to picnics.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reynolds R. “Bucky” Alexander, Sr., on January 1, 1993.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Reynolds R. Jr. and Christina DiMartile Alexander of Camp Hill, Richard T. and Judy Risser Alexander of Chambers Hill, and Gary P. and K. Ila Dawdy Alexander of Rutherford; one daughter, Mary Ann wife of Rick L. Geiman of Penbrook; four step-grandchildren, Jaclyn wife of Sean Sariano, Shaun Geiman of Colonial Park, Eric deLage of Rutherford, and Brittany Harder of Chambers Hill; one step great-grandson, Nicholas Sariano of Colonial Park; and two sisters-in- law, Hilda Hepner of Herndon, and Lola Hepner of Kansas City, Kansas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susanna E. Alexander, on October 8, 1978, and one grandson, Cliff Harris on January 18, 1974.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 12 at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. Gordon L. Lewis, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Friday, April 11 from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until time of the services.

CARL G. RITTER
Carl G. Ritter, 78, of Chambers Hill, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in the Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Butztown on March 15, 1925, he was the son of the late Lester and Bertha Hawk Ritter. He retired after 35 years of service as an Engineering Supervisor from the former Bell Telephone Company. He was a 1943 graduate of Bethlehem Technical High School. He was a Navy veteran having served in World War II on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was Past President of its Congregation Council and former Knights of Zion. He was a member of the U.S.S. Ticonderoga Organization, the Bell Telephone Pioneers, and the Delaware River Shad Fisherman’s Association. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and woodworker.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene L. Person Ritter whom he married on November 8, 1946; one son and his wife, Carl G. Ritter, Jr. and Deborah Keefer of Milan, Michigan; one daughter, Debra K. wife of Thomas J. Weninger of Allentown; two brothers, Daniel W. Shaffer of Bethlehem and Robert Beddoe of Nazareth; and three grandchildren, Jason E. Keefer of Santa Monica, California and Shalena M. Weninger and Kayly A. Weninger both of Allentown.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2003, at 3 PM in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Alan C. Wenrich, his pastor, officiating.
Inurnment with military honors will be held Monday, April 7 at 2 PM in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Township. Friends will be received in the church’s Leatherman Hall following the service.

STEWART L. BOSE
Stewart L. Bose, 91, of Hummelstown, passed away Monday, March 31, 2003, in the Integrated Health Services of Hershey at the Woodlands of natural causes.
Born in Harrisburg on February 24, 1912, he was the son of the late Harvey and Kathryn Wagner Bose. He retired from the Hershey Chocolate Company where he was a foreman in the Scrap Department of the Wrapping Room. He was a Marine Corps veteran having served in World War II. He was member of Zion Lutheran Church of Union Deposit where he had formerly served on the Church Council. He enjoyed gardening and watching the birds and wildlife.
He is survived by one daughter, Shirley M. wife of Francis E. Kreiser of Hummelstown; two grandchildren, Kimberly A wife of Troy R. Feehrer and Jeffrey Stewart Kreiser and his fiancée Elizabeth A. Webster both of Hershey; one foster grandson, Ronald B. Bouch, Jr. of Hummelstown; and one great grandson, Zachary Stewart Feehrer of Hershey.
Funeral service will be held Friday, April 4 at 3 PM in Zion Lutheran Church of Union Deposit, 5 West Main Street, Hershey, with The Rev. Jeffrey C. Compton, his pastor, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Hanoverdale Cemetery. Viewing will be in the church from 2 PM until time of the services.

ROSALIE JUNE BOWERS
Rosalie June Wingert Bowers, 84, of Middletown and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Monday, June 2, 2003, at The Middletown Home.
Born in Chambersburg on May 12, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Ira Heller Wingert and Minnie Ann Perry Wingert.
She retired as an Administrative Clerk from the PA Liquor Control Board. She was Protestant by Faith. She was the youngest girl in the graduating class of 1936 of the former Swatara Township High School. She was an Army Veteran having served in World War II. She was a member of the former Swatara Township High School Alumni Association; the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees; Golden Age Club of Hummelstown; WAC-VETS; and the American Association of Retired Persons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Bowers on August 1, 1985.
She is survived by a step daughter, Winifred J. wife of Joseph C. Naples of Middletown; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews

RUTH M. LENKER
Ruth M. Straub Lenker, 83, of Elizabethtown and formerly of Grantville and Hershey, passed away Friday, May 30, 2003, in the Masonic Home in Elizabethtown.
Born in Derry Township on April 17, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Sarah Snavely Straub. She retired from the Nationwide Insurance Company. She was a graduate of the former Swatara Township High School. She was a member of the East Hanover Church of God. She enjoyed reading, cross stitching and doing New York Times crossword puzzles; and was an avid Phillies baseball fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland H. Lenker, on April 4, 1983.
She is survived by one son, Terry R. Lenker husband of Barbara Heinbach Lenker of Hummelstown; one daughter, Judith A. Rankin wife of Jack E. Rankin, of Palmyra; three sisters, Pauline Gassert, Lillian “Dolly” Gibson wife of Lester Gibson, and Edie Fisher all of Pine Grove; one brother, Joseph Hawk of Hershey; four grandchildren, Deborah S. Boyer wife of Andrew Boyer and Steven T. Lenker husband of Jodi Bair Lenker both of Harrisburg, Lesle A. Rotter wife of Paul Rotter of Douglasville, and Linda Rankin of Fuqua Varina, NC; and five great-grandchildren, Faith Lenker and Zachary Lenker both of Hershey, Madelyn Rotter of Douglasville, and Kyle Drewry and Jessica Drewry both of Fuqua Varina, NC.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Straub, and a sister, Helen Keesey.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6, 2003 at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown with The Rev. Richard R. Hanshaw, Jr., officiating.
