Joseph W. Messersmith
LOWER PAXTON TWP. - Joseph W. Messersmith, 60, of Fritchey Street, died Sunday, Dec. 22 at the Community General Osteopathic Hospital.
He was a self-employed certified public accountant in the Harrisburg area, a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Millersburg, the AICPA and the PICPA.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Boyer Messersmith.
Services were held Thursday, Dec. 26 at the Hetrick Funeral Home in Susquehanna Twp. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lower Paxton Twp.
Memorial donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association, 3544 North Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, 17110 or the American Heart Association, 1019 Mumma Road, Suite 200, Camp Hill, 17043.

Doris L. Conley
YORK HAVEN - Doris L. Shuler Conley, 76, died Saturday, Dec. 21 at her home.
She was a volunteer at the Red Land Senior Citizens Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L., and a daughter, Jo-Ellen Conley Kauffman.
Surviving are three sons, Larry Conley of Millersburg, Barry Shuler of York, and James Conley of York Haven; two daughters, Wendy Conley and Cindy Sutton, both of Dover; a sister, Anna Page of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Donald Shuler of New Cumberland; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, Dec. 27 in the Stone and Murray Funeral Home in New Cumberland. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lower Paxton Twp.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Red Land Senior Center, 60 Newberry Commons, Etters, 17319.

John H. Sloan
CONNELSVILLE - John H. Sloan, 76, of Connellsville, formerly of Williamstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 24 at his home.
Born in Williamstown, he was a son of the late George F. and Lillie B. Wise Sloan.
He was a 1943 graduate of Williamstown High School, received a bachelor of science in music education from Penn State University in 1947, a masters degrees in music education from the University of Michigan in 1951, and doctoral degree from West Virginia University in 1962.
He was a former band director for the Connellsville Joint School System and administrative office worker for the Connellsville Area Schools.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the African and European theatres. He was a life member of Connellsville BPO Elks No. 503, a former member of the Ashlar Loge in Lykens, a member of the Connellsville American Legion No. 301, the Bullskin Twp. Lions Club, King Solomon's Lodge No. 346, the Lodge of Perfection Uniontown Commandery No. 49, the Olivet Council in Greensburg, the Syria Shrine Temple, Fayette County Artist and Actors and St. John's Lutheran Church in Connellsville. He was a member of F & AM in Connellsville where he served as Master in 1988; Royal Arch Chapter No. 283 were he served as high priest in 1962; and a member of the brass band since 1957.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty C. Christian Sloan and a brother, Carl Sloan.
Surviving are his daughters, Beth Kunak of Connellsville and Rebecca Andyjohn of South Connellsville; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, Dec. 27 at Brooks Funeral Home, Inc. in Connellsville. Burial was in Green Ridge memorial Park in Pennsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 126 East Fairview Avenue, Connellesville, 15425 or the Shriner's Children's Hospital, Erie, in memory of John H. Sloan.
Arrangements were handled by Brooks Funeral Homes, Inc. in Connellsville.

Pauline E. Hollenbach
HERNDON - Pauline E. Hollenbach, 87, of Susquehanna Lutheran Village and formerly of Front Street in Herndon, died Tuesday, Dec. 24 in the village.
Born in Millersburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Erma Noll Wert.
She retired from the former Creative Playthings in Herndon.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Herndon; Idella Rebekah Lodge No. 58; and Herndon and Lower Northumberland County Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hollenbach and a brother, Warren Wert.
Surviving are three brothers, Elwood Wert of Shiremanstown, Walter Wert of Boulder City, Nev., and William Wert of Hollidaysburg, Fla.; and a sister, Catherine Spicher of Hagerstown, Md.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 30 at her church. Burial was in Northumberland Memorial Park in Stonington.
Lodge services were also held Monday, Dec. 30.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Capital Region Unit, 3211 North Front Street, Suite #100, Harrisburg, 17110.
Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc. of Millersburg handled the arrangements.

William G. Ramsey
FISHING CREEK VALLEY - William G. Ramsey, 96, of Fishing Creek Valley, died Tuesday, Dec. 24 in the Camp Hill Care Center.
Born in Penbrook, he was a son of the late Solomon and Kathryn Pankake Ramsey.
He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Dauphin Fire Company. He had served as a Forest Fire Warden with the Department of Environmental Protection for more than 40 years.
Surviving are his wife of more than 71 years, Mary Zettlemoyer Ramsey; a son, John Ramsey of Fishing Creek Valley; two daughters, Thelma Hinds of Dauphin and Helen Abrell of Broad Run, Va.; two brothers, Harry of Harrisburg and Ralph of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 30 in the Hoover Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. in Linglestown. Burial was in Millers Cemetery in Fishing Creek Valley.

Emma C. Miller
WILLIAMSTOWN - Emma C. Miller, 91, of 139 Spruce Street, died Wednesday, Dec. 25 at the Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Williamstown, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Catherine Shammo Miller.
She was retired from the state Department of Revenue and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Williamstown.
Surviving are her brother, Harry Miller of Altoona and two nephews.
Services and burial was held Saturday, Dec. 28 at the Methodist Cemetery in Williamstown.
Memorial donations may be made to her church, East and Vine Streets, Williamstown, 17098 or Williamstown EMS, P.O. Box 74, Williamstown, 17098.

Anna Mary Lefever
MILLERSBURG - Anna Mary Lefever, 82, of 142 North Stone Road, formerly of Leola, died Thursday, Dec. 26 at home.
Born in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Lillian Hess Kreider and a step-daughter of the late Ada Kreider.
She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Stumptown Mennonite Church in Bird-in-Hand.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy H. Lefever, and a brother, Elvin Kreider.
Surviving are a son, Jay Lefever of Chambersburg; a daughter, Janet Mateer of Elizabethville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Howard Kreider of New Providence; and a sister, Minnie Kratz of New Providence.
Services were held in Stumptown Mennonite Church. Burial was in the church Cemetery.

Elwood G. Daniels
LOWER PAXTON TWP. - Elwood G. "Lefty" "Dan" Daniels, 78, of Lower Paxton Twp., died Wednesday, Dec. 25 in the Osteopathic Hospital.
Born in Millersburg, he was the son of the late Guy and Katie Latsha Daniels.
He was a 1943 graduate of Millersburg High School and served as a 1st Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He retired from AMP, Inc. and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of America and the Robert Burns Lodge No. 464, formerly Euclid No. 698, of Harrisburg.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Mattis Daniels; a son, Christopher E. Daniels of South Hanover Twp.; a sister, Janet Tobias Zurver of Millersburg; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 30 at his church. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, South Central Pa Chapter, 2001 North Front Street, Building 2, Suite 321, Harrisburg, 17102.
