Joanne Cowan Hough, 61, of Scottdale R.D.1, wife of Jack D. Hough, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 6, 2000, at her home. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. Mary Oravetz Shander, Southwest
Mary Oravetz Shander, 93, formerly of Southwest (Hecla) and Greensburg, went to her eternal rest Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at the HCR Manor Care in McMurray. Mary was born Aug. 16, 1907, in Mount Pleasant Township, the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Kesock Oravetz. She was a member of the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Greensburg and also a member of the St. Nicholas Rosary Society and St. Mary's of Trauger Rosary Society. Her memories will be cherished by her family: a brother, Matthew Oravetz of Norfolk, Va.; two nephews, Bob Oravetz of McMurray, with whom she made her home for the past 10 years, and Michael Oravetz of Mount Pleasant; and two nieces, Mary Ellen Oravetz of Norfolk, Va. and Anna Mary Brackenridge of Baton Rouge, La. She is also survived by seven great-nieces and -nephews and four great-great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Shander, on June 7, 1975, and two brothers, Steve Oravetz, on Dec. 15, 1972, and Demetrius Oravetz, on March 3, 1989. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME, INC., MAIN STREET, MOUNT PLEASANT, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Greensburg, with the Rev. Father Regis J. Dusecina as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Visitation Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. Parastas will be sung in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Friday.

Eleanor S. Goodwin, 97, of Greensburg, formerly of Connellsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in the Redstone Highlands Nursing Home, Greensburg. She was born Jan. 28, 1903, in Dunbar, a daughter of the late John B. and Margaret McDowell Senor. She was a graduate of the former Dunbar Township High School and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Mozart Club, all of Connellsville. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. of Connellsville. She is survived by two sons, William Goodwin and his wife Janice of Jefferson Hills, Ray Goodwin and his wife Ann of Key Biscayne, Fla.; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Merselis of Massachusetts. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles Ray Goodwin; two sons, Kenneth and Robert Goodwin; a grandson, Gary Goodwin; two sisters, Rebecca Holsing and Mary Senor; and four brothers, Edward, William L., John G., and Harry Senor. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC, 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Joanne Cowan Hough, 61, of Scottdale, R.D.1, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 6, 2000, at her home. Joanne was born on April 17, 1939, in Mount Pleasant, a daughter of the late Walter C. and Esther Henson Cowan, who passed away in February 1970 and February 1990, respectively. Joanne married Jack D. Hough on Aug. 30, 1957. Joanne was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She was a retired clerk with the former Mount Pleasant Bakery where she worked for 27 years. She was also employed at the Country Pie Shoppe for four years. Joanne was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Scottdale and was a graduate of Scottdale High School with the Class of 1957. Joanne is survived by her devoted family, her husband of 43 years, Jack D. Hough; her two sons, Walter W. Hough and wife, Marlene (Rosky) of Mount Pleasant and David D. Hough and wife, Alicia (Petagno) of North Huntingdon; her five grandsons, Matthew, Timothy, Nicholas, Corey and Joshua; her sister, Margaret Minerd and husband, James, of Dunnellon, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Mary Hough of Scottdale; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by a twin sister, Joan in 1939 and a sister, Marilyn Kelly in 1994. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. Samuel L. Little, 73, of Connellsville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at Beverly Health Care Center in Uniontown. He was born June 10, 1926, in Mount Pleasant, a son of the late Samuel L. Little and Effie Brant Little. He was Protestant by faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. DeWitt Little of Connellsville; a daughter, Linda Little and a son, Samuel L. Little III, both of Indiana state; two stepdaughters, Vicki J. Foore and Gina Foore and a stepson, Donald E. Foore, all of Indiana state; four grandsons; and two great-grandsons. Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. Mamie V. Yancosky, 83, of Mount Pleasant, died Sept. 8, 2000, at Harmon House Convalescent Center, Mount Pleasant. She was born Nov. 10, 1916, in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of the late William Angelo Crivella and Concetta Nesta. She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church of Mount Pleasant, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society of the church and its Christian Mothers, and the Ladies Guild, of which she was past president. She was also a member of the Kosciuszko Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Slovak Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Sons of Italy Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters of America. She is survived by her loving family, Annie Forsythe and her husband, Dennis, of Scottdale, Joseph "Coke" Yancosky and his wife, Carol, of Mount Pleasant, Connie Thomas and her husband, Terry, also of Mount Pleasant, Bernadette Kattera and her husband, Dave, of Mount Pleasant, and Toni Brown of Palm Coast, Fla.; her grandchildren, Jim Forsythe, Sean Forsythe, Denise Adler, Steve Yancosky, Joseph Yancosky, Michael Yancosky, Jennifer Thomas, George Thomas, Terri Renee Thomas, Anthony Thomas, April Thomas, Jaclyn Kattera, Samantha Brown, and Benjamin Brown; great-grandchildren, Joey Forsythe, Rachel Adler, Hannah Adler, Brook Yancosky, Jessie Yancosky, Adam Thomas and Breanna Thomas; her sister, Helen Krzemien and her husband, John, of Mount Pleasant. In addition to her parents, Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Kathryn A. Yezek Pravlik, East Huntingdon Township
Kathryn A. Yezek Pravlik, 77, of East Huntingdon Township, Mount Pleasant, died at the Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant, Saturday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2000. Kathryn was born Jan. 10, 1923, in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of the late William P. Sr. and Minnie Gerhke Yezek. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Scottdale; was a student of the former East Huntingdon High School; and was a member of the Slovak Club Ladies Auxiliary and the C.S.A., the former Lodge Westmoreland 171. Kathryn was a homemaker and also had a catering service. Her memories will be cherished by her family: daughters, Carol Kauffman and husband, Alton, of Mount Pleasant, and Doris Jean Butts and husband, Kenneth, of Mount Pleasant, R.D.1; four grandchildren, Richard Kauffman, Kendra Golden, Kathy Butts and Adam Butts; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Matthew Golden and Jesse Lee Golden; an adoptive grandson, Andrew Buchta; and her brother, William Yezek and wife, Eleanor, of Mount Pleasant. Amnie E. Lawver, East Millsboro
Amnie E. Lawver, 72, of East Millsboro, Pa. died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000 of natural causes in the Beverly Health Care Center, Uniontown. He was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Springfield Township, a son of the late Amnie and Caroline Stillwagon Lawver. Mr. Lawver was the owner and operator of Lawver Scrap Iron and Metal at East Millsboro. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth DeWitt Lawver; two daughers, Ruth Rankin and her husband, Ron, of Uniontown, and Nancy Koffler and her husband, Paul, of West Leisenring; one son, Amnie E. Lawver Jr. of East Millsboro; one son-in-law, Robert Hersh of East Millsboro; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Lawver and his wife, Wilma, of Weirton, W. Va. and Alonzo Lawver and his wife, Grace, of Brownsville; and two sisters, Thelma Adkins and her husband, Julian, of Florence, Ky. and Aseneth Rose of Pittgas, Pa. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two daughters, Kathy Diane Hersh and Cora Lucille Lawver; one brother, Jack Lawver; three sisters, Louella Furman, Linda Bartko and Dortha Benette; and five infant brothers and sisters. Johanna P. Conko, 88, of Connellsville Towers, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Scottdale Manor Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 12, 1912, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Max J. and Veronica Licking Riedman. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers Society. She was a housewife all of her married life. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She enjoyed knitting and cross stitching. She is survived by five sons, Stephen P. Conko II and his wife, Eleanor M. of South Connellsville, Francis J. Conko of Alabama, James L. Conko and his wife, Theresa, of Monrovia, MO., Bernard A. Conko and his wife, Rose M., of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Charles C. "Chuck" Conko of Uniontown; two daughters, Johanna B. Smith and her husband, William E., and Barbara E. Conko, all of Millersville, Md.; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Hubert B. Riedman and his wife, Geneva, of Connellsville, Lawrence A. Riedman and his wife, Mary, of Harrisburg, and Ralph P. Riedman and his wife, Gertrude, of Chicago, Ill. Eleanor L. Jarvis, 84, of Greenville, Ohio, formerly of Connellsville, passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2000 in the Gade Nursing Home in Greenville, Ohio. She was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Fayette County, a daughter of the late Chandler O. and Evelyn B. Laishley Sampey. She was a Protestant by faith. She is survived by a son, Richard Glen Kensinger and his wife, Grace, of Greenville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Kimberly Tupps, Kristen Booher, Robert Kensinger and Richard Kensinger II; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Zimmerman of Falls Church, Va.; two stepdaughters, Evelyn Jarvis of Ohio and Ruth Ann Scott of Oklahoma; two stepsons, Garrett Jarvis and Robert Jarvis of Michigan. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Denver Jarvis; eight brothers, Harold R., William, Melvin, Edward, James, Paul, Donald and Dale Sampey; and a sister, Virginia Leighty. Catherine M. McCormick, Connellsville
Catherine M. McCormick, 91, of Connellsville, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, in Mount St. Macrina Manor, Uniontown. She was born Sept. 11, 1908, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Arthur and Catherine (Fletcher) McCormick. She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville. During the 1960s, she worked as a cook for the Collins Hotel. Catherine is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Richey, Sarah Miller and Anna Helms; and two brothers, Arthur and Joseph McCormick. Alice H. Wawrzyniak, Scottdale
Alice H. Yingling Wawrzyniak, 75, of Scottdale, died Saturday evening, Sept. 9, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant. A lifelong resident of Scottdale, Alice was born July 2, 1925, a daughter of the late Harry H. and Myrtle Baum Yingling. She was a life member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Scottdale. Alice was a member and trustee of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Mount Pleasant VFW Post 3368, and had served as president in 1977. She was also a social member and supporter of the Scottdale Firemen's Club. Alice is survived by her loving husband, Joseph J. Wawrzyniak; a son, Joseph C. Wawrzyniak and his wife, Betty (Farino) of Scottdale; a daughter, Dolores Thomas of Connellsville; six grandchildren, Theresa Prinkey, Patty Skowronek, Jody Duffey, Tina Smetanka and Jeff and Frank Thomas; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents. Alice was preceded in death by two sisters, Alta Dillon (Feb. 7, 1977) and Gladys E. Pierce (Aug. 31, 1983); and a brother, Allen Yingling (March 12, 1983). Alice's family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., at the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Elizabeth Mary Bertrand, 85, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Hatboro, went to her eternal rest Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at the DeWitt Personal Care Home, Connellsville. She was born Oct. 3, 1914, in Mount Pleasant Township (Hecla), a daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Janesko Blanda. She was a member of several senior citizens groups, a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Horsham, Pa., and attended the Bridgeport Free Methodist Church. Prior to retirement, she was employed for 25 years manufacturing transistors. She is the beloved aunt of Ramona Pasko, Mary Miller, Evelyn Kuhn, Lillian King, Dorothy Kuhn, Linda King, William, Carl, Curtis, Paul, Robert and John King, and Robert Brosky; and several great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard G. Bertrand, Aug. 26, 1991; three sisters, Margaret Previty, Mary Elizabeth King and Helen Brosky; and five brothers, John, Francis, Andrew, Steve and Robert Blanda. She was the last surviving member of her family. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G.
