Edward Czerwinsky, 88, of Denbo Heights, Brownsville, Pa., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at 5:40 a.m., in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township.
He was born March 21, 1913, in Fayette City, Pa., son of the late William and Helen (Dobosh) Czerwinsky.
He was a Catholic by faith.
Edward was a retired Street Commissioner for Centerville Boro, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II, where he was a Sargent in the 305 Fighter Patrol Squadron. He served from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post 705 of Centerville.
He was also actively involved in music most of his life, taught private lessons on most of the musical instruments, played the accordion, organ and piano and was still giving lessons until eight years ago. He was well known and could be seen at many weddings, anniversaries, church functions, graduations, and many other functions, where he was known as Ed Czerwinsky and his One-man Band.
On Nov. 25, 1947, he married Margaret Andler Czerwinsky, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Janis A. Gonzales and her husband, John of Fort St. Lucie, Fla., and Carol Suitch and her husband, John of Stuart, Fla.; one granddaughter, Janelle Suitch also of Stuart, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Henry Czerwinsky; and a sister, Helen I. Czerwinsky; and a brother, William Czerwinsky and a sister, Sophie Czerwinsky, who died in infancy.
Friends will be received in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main St., Route 40, Beallsville on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, March 26, 2001, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in the Parish of St. Oliver Plunkett, St. Michael Archangel Church, Fredericktown, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Edward S. Litavec as celebrant. Interment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill. A Parish Vigil will be held at 8:30 p.m., on Sunday, in the funeral home. Full military rites will be accorded at the graveside by the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post 705 of Centerville.
Walt J. Elliott
Walt J. Elliott, 54, of Harbison Avenue, Masontown, Pa., formerly of Chester, W.Va., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., following a lengthy bout with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Walt owned and operated Elliott Construction in Masontown, Pa. He is survived by his mother, Wilma Swisher Elliott of Chester, W.Va.; and his wife, Janice Blasinsky Elliott whom he married on 8-1-81and a daughter, Emily Elliott, both at home.
Friends will be received in the Arner Funeral Chapel, 607 Carolina Ave., Chester, W.Va., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday at 11 a.m., the hour of service.
Eleanor E. Landman
Eleanor E. Landman, 81, of Mt. Independence, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at her home.
Eleanor was the last surviving member of her family, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law.
She was born May 1, 1919, in Confluence, Pa., daughter of the late Robert Henry and Rachael Reckner Wilson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by these brothers and sisters, Charles Wilson, Worley Wilson, Ralph Wilson, Olive Conway, Ray Wilson, Sarah Wilson, Maude Koontz, Mae Morrison, Lena Zebley, Florence Wilson and Delmar Wilson.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Donald P. Landman; three children, Nancy Lee Maust and husband, Lloyd Jr., Donald Delmar "Jake" Landman and wife, Jean, all of Bethel Boro, and Patricia L. Payne and husband, Robert of Masontown; two grandchildren, Lisa A. Edwards and husband, Dr. Gregory of Ashburn, Va., and Julie A. Landman of Bethel Boro, and fiancée, Tony Trayter of Scottdale.
Mrs. Landman was a member of the Uniontown Free Methodist Church.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, in the Uniontown Free Methodist Church from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. James Jobes and the Rev. Eugene Cowsert officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
Gilbert E. Myers
Gilbert (Gibby) E. Myers, 74, of Addison, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 22, 2001, with his family by his bedside at Western Maryland Hospice Center, after a long illness.
He was born May 1, 1926, in Markleysburg, Pa., a son of the late William Newton and Mary Pearl Fisher Myers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Gilbert; two sisters, Ruth A. Smith and an infant sister, Pearl; and two brothers, William N. Myers Jr., and Eugene Myers.
Gibby was a member of the Addison Methodist Church, where he served as a caretaker for 23 years. He retired from Snavely Forest Products as a tractor-trailer driver. He was a truck driver for most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Army Infantry Division and the European Theatre.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Eleanor Green Myers of 54 years; five children, Samuel Myers and wife, Bertha of Hyndman, Pa., Twila R. Kramer and husband, William of Warren, Pa., Ricky A. Myers and wife, Sandy of Mill Run, Pa., Tamara R. Rugg and husband, Gary of Addison, Pa., and Sheila D. Hager and husband, Jonathan of Markleysburg; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert A. Myers of Markleysburg, Pa.; and two sisters, Betty J. Rosenberger of Markleysburg, Pa., and Judith M. Woods of Ursina, Pa.
Friends will be received in the RODNEY S. TURNER FUNERAL HOME, Markleysburg, on today from 7 to 9 p.m., on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Timothy Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Addison Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside.
Edna Otto
Edna Neill Otto, 79, of Annapolis, Md., died of cancer Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at her home, after a seven-month illness.
Mrs. Otto was born March 3, 1922, in Gastonville, Pa., the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Garry Neill.
She graduated, in 1940, from Monongahela Pennsylvania High School, and attended the former Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh.
She worked for Metzler’s Department Store in Uniontown, Pa., where she lived for 30 years, before moving to Annapolis 12 years ago. She was the switchboard operator for California University of Pennsylvania, from 1965 to 1987, and for Anne Arundel Medical Center from 1989 to 2000.
During World War II, Mrs. Otto was a glider wing inspector for the Air Force at the Heinz Factory, in Pittsburgh.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Henry Otto, whom she married on June 5, 1942, and who died on Oct. 25, 1970; and a sister, Margaret Furlong.
Surviving are two daughters, Merle Faith Hill of Annapolis, and Reathea Otto Woodburn of Owego, N.Y.; one brother, Thomas Neill of Falling Waters, W.Va.; six sisters, Mary Etta Keeney and Catherine Petras of Finleyville, Pa., Helen Connell and Elizabeth Roley of Monongahela, Wilda Fithyan of Steubenville, Ohio, and Faith Ann Ferencak of Uniontown; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation was held at the TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., from 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday. Visitation will also be held on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., at the KEGEL FUNERAL HOME, in Finleyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m., on Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, in Finleyville, with burial in the Finleyville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company, the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, in Baltimore, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, in care of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, in Finleyville.
Virginia E. Popovich
Virginia Elizabeth Popovich, 69, of Crozet, Va., and formerly of Cornish, Pa., died suddenly Thursday, March 22, 2001, in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va.

Margaret Rennie
Margaret McGinnies "Scotty" Rennie, 80, of Connellsville, Pa., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at home.
Prior to her retirement, Margaret worked as a seamstress for Connellsville Sportswear and later, she was employed by Anchor Hocking Glass Plant.
Margaret is survived by three sons, Gordon R. Rennie Sr., and wife, Beverly of Delaware, William S. Rennie and wife, Joni of Connellsville, and James S. Rennie and wife, Linda of Greensburg; a daughter, June I. Ward and husband, Randy of Delaware; and nine grandchildren;

Mary A. Ross
Mary A. Gallis Ross, 71, of Uniontown, Pa., died Thursday, March 22, 2001, unexpectedly in Uniontown, Pa.
She was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Youngstown, Pa., daughter of the late Joseph L. and Anna Gusic Gallis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Ross Sr., on Aug. 6, 1971; and six brothers, Frank, George, Joseph, Steve, John and Lawrence Gallis.
Mary was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Fayette County Historical Society.
She is survived by a son, James A. Ross Jr., and his wife, Toni of Uniontown; a daughter, Cathy Richmond and her husband, Dr. G. Wendell Richmond of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Lyne Richmond and Brian Ross Richmond, both of Glen Ellyn, Ill, and James a Ross III and Maria Ross, both of Uniontown; two brothers, Michael Gallis and his wife, Betty and Anthony M. Gallis and his wife, Judith, all of Uniontown; a sister, Anna M. Gallis Horvath of West Leisenring; and several nieces and nephews.

Pansy V. Schiffbauer
Pansy V. Ringer Schiffbauer, 97, of Nemacolin, Pa., died at 2 a.m., on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Country Care Manor, Fayette City, Pa., after a short illness.
She was born Sept. 8, 1903, in South Union Township (Revere), Fayette County, Pa., a daughter of the late Thomas Franklin Ringer and Dora March Frey Ringer Jeffries.
Mrs. Schiffbauer had resided in Nemacolin, since 1926, and was a member of the former Nemacolin Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Schiffbauer, whom she married on Dec. 15, 1920, and who died on March 3, 1959; a son, Bill J. Schiffbauer; three brothers, Thomas J., Gilbert M., and Donald W. Ringer; one half-brother, Charles Jeffries; and four sisters, Edna Goe, Nellie Cumashot, Mary V. White and Olive L. Hastings.
She is survived by a son, Benford L. Schiffbauer of Palatka, Fla.; two daughters, Donna M. Schiffbauer, with whom she shared her home, and Jane Walters of Dover, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Linda and Elaine Voytek, Bill, Bob, James B., James W. and George Schiffbauer, David (Rusty) Walters and Kim Arunski; 19 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; nine great great-grandchildren; and one great, great great-grandchild.

Walter F. Smith
Walter F. (Chef) Smith, 55, of Uniontown, Pa., died Tuesday evening, March 21, 2001.
He was born Jan. 10, 1946, in Knoxville, Tenn., son of the late Robert and Modestine Griffin Smith. He served in the U.S. Army for over two years.
Surviving are one brother, James Smith and wife, Charmaine of Uniontown, Pa.; one sister, Waujeana Mitchell and husband, the Rev. Claude Mitchell of Grindstone, Pa.; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
