Melanie S. Moon, Winder, Ga.
Melanie S. King Moon, 49, of Winder, Ga., formerly of Everson, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Atlanta, Ga. She was born Oct. 13, 1950, in Mount Pleasant, a daughter of the late Alonzo A. and Marion (Smith) King. She graduated from Southmoreland High School, Class of 1968. She was formerly employed by West Penn Power Co., Greensburg. She is survived by her husband, Melvin, of Winder, Ga.; two sons, Christopher A. Moon of Orlando, Fla., and Jonathan W. Moon of Uniontown; a granddaughter, Skylar C. Moon of Uniontown; a brother, Lindsay A. King of Mount Pleasant; and a sister, Joyce E. King of Greensburg. A memorial service will be held in Winder, Ga. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
Lloyd D. Harr
Lloyd D. Harr, 68, of Vanderbilt, formerly of Connellsville, died suddenly Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in the Highlands Hospital. He was born May 28, 1932, in Connellsville, a son of the late Lloyd F. and Leanna Nicholson Harr. Lloyd was a resident of Vanderbilt for the last 3 1/2 years. He was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1949. Prior to his retirement he worked for the NuKote Chemical Co. in Dunbar and was also a self employed upholsterer. He also formerly taught night classes at the vo-tech school in Uniontown. He was a member of South Connellsville Rod & Gun Club and was an avid hunter. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Army as a medic. LLoyd attended the Dawson Baptist Church and was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Connellsville. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Naomi Tissue Clark Harr; his daughters, Cindy Nicholson and her husband, Richard, of Connellsville, Karla Jane Stoots and her husband, David, of Dickerson Run, Linda Greenawalt and her husband, Roger, of Vanderbilt, and Willa Bowser and her husband, John, of Vanderbilt; his sons, Charles Clark and his wife, Pat, and William Clark and his wife, Loretta, all of Vanderbilt; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Russell Harr and his wife, Connie, of Connellsville, and Robert Harr and his wife, Marie, of Topeka, Kan.; his sisters, Dorothy Jean Richter and her husband, Albert, of Ohio, Joyce Reese and her husband, Ernest, of Dawson, and Frances Fender of Connellsville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Lipovsky Harr in 1995; an infant daughter, Tammy Harr; and a brother, Homer Harr. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, today and Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. George Rath officiating. George S. Ondich
George S. Ondich, 89, a longtime, respected, self-employed electrician, of Overholt Drive, Scottdale (East Huntingdon Township), passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 30, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant. George was born in Scottdale on May 16, 1911, a son of the late George and Mary Kovach Ondich. George married the former Anne Bohatch on June 28, 1937. George was a retired, self-employed electrician, well-known throughout the Fay-West area as proprietor of Ondich Electric in Scottdale for over 40 years. Years ago he was employed at the former Overholt Distillery. He was a longtime member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Visitation Roman Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant where he was an active parishioner and served as usher. He was a member of the Slovak Club in Mount Pleasant and formerly was active in the Knights of Columbus and Scottdale Lions Club. He and his wife Anne enjoyed attending the many events at West Overton Museum together. George is survived by his loving family, his wife of 63 years, Anne Ondich; his son, Gregory Ondich of Washington, D.C.; his six daughters, Barbara Ondich Pavick and husband Michael of Murrysville, Monica Ondich Irlbacher and husband Edmund of Middletown, N.Y., Canice Ondich Kules and husband Jay of Scottsdale, Ariz., Cabrini Ondich Bruun and husband William of Fort Myers, Fla., Mercedes Ondich Baird and husband Mark of Washington, D.C., and Lisa Ondich and husband Richard Fiedorek of Wayne, Pa.; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Ann Konieczny and husband Thomas of Mount Pleasant. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Matuscak. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. Martha A. Baker, Scottdale
Martha A. Baker, 93, of Scottdale, formerly of Connellsville (Poplar Grove) died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in the Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. She was born Nov. 2, 1907 in Connellsville (Poplar Grove), a daughter of the late Phillip and Caroline Brinkman Stenger. Martha was a resident of Scottdale since 1970 and was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a long time devoted member and supporter of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Connellsville. Martha was a Navy Mother and was a very active member of the Red Cross Volunteers in Connellsville and Warren. She was a member of the Order of the Amaranth Mount Pleasant Court #47 and the Order of Eastern Star Scottdale Chapter #383. She is survived by her loving children, David E. Baker and his wife Louise of Uniontown, H. Duane Baker and his wife Rose Ann of Chalk Hill, Charles E. Baker and his wife Helen of Pensacola, Fl., Walter L. Baker and his wife Diana of Los Angeles, Calif. and Fredric Phillip Baker of Las Vegas, Nev.; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, David F. Baker in 1976; a daughter, Dolores Richards; her brothers, James, Phillip, Charles and John Stenger; and her sisters, Minnie Jones, Anna C. Miller, Charlotte Hosfelt, Louise King and Sophia Taylor. Gilbert B. Eutsey Sr., Connellsville
Gilbert B. Eutsey Sr., of Connellsville, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born Sept. 26, 1926, in White, Pa., a son of the late James and Marie Bongaid Eutsey. He was a Protestant by faith. He was a carpenter for several years and a member of Union Local 2274 of Pittsburgh. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was awarded the World War II Victory medal and Army of Occupation Japan medal. He was a member of the Italian Independent Social Club, the Polish Club and a regular member of the V.F.W. Post 21, all of Connellsville. He is survived by his wife, Betty R. Trump Eutsey to whom he was married 51 years; a son, Gilbert B. Eutsey Jr. and his wife, Audrey, of Dawson; a daughter, Bobbie Marie Eutsey of Connellsville; three grandchildren, Michael Eutsey, Kimberly Taconni and Steven Schoolmeesters.; a great-granddaughter, Haylie Eutsey; three brothers, Hobart Joe Eutsey of Stahlstown and Omar Eutsey and Merle Eutsey, both of Kerger, Pa.; four sisters, Nora Nicklow of Orlando, Fla., Ann Myers of Delano, Fla., Dorla Warren of Charleroi and Verna Jane Hauger of Ligonier. Michael A. Ruvo, Connellsville
Michael Anthony Ruvo of West Side Hill, Connellsville, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in Westmoreland Hospital. He was born in Lemont Furnace, a son of the late Antonio and Maria Archangela Brienza Ruvo. He was a Catholic by faith. He was employed by Rack Engineering Co. as a painter for 34 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served six years in the Air Corps. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal with 11 Bronze Stars and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He was a member of VFW Post 21. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Glenna Lucille Jaynes Ruvo, to whom he was married 51 years. He is survived by a son, Larry Michael Ruvo of Connellsville; a daughter, Vicki Jo Ruvo and Gerald W. Newell of South Connellsville; two grandsons, Darren K. Ruvo and Les M. Ruvo and Stacy Spicola of Connellsville; a great-grandson, Jordan Leslie Ruvo of Connellsville; three sisters, Philomena Cunningham of Owensdale, Mary Yankowich of Connellsville and Rose Herchko of Pittsburgh; four brothers, Lt. Col. Victor A. Ruvo of Virginia, Salvatore Ruvo and Anthony Ruvo, both of Connellsville; Vincent Ruvo of Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Filomena Ruvo, and a daughter-in-law, Dianne K. Bennett Ruvo. Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. Bernard F. Shubert, Connellsville
Bernard F. Shubert (Snegs), 62, of Connellsville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, peacefully at his home, comforted by his loving family. He was born Jan. 2 1938 in Monarch, a son of the late George Sr. and Mary (Langor) Shubert. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Donald Shubert. Bernard was a member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville. He worked at Anchor Glass in South Connellsville for over 29 years until his retirement in 1993, and was also a union representative of Local 124 for many years. Bernard served in the United States Marine Corp. 1956-1958 and was a member of AMVETS Post #103 of Hopwood. He served on the board of directors of the Independent Slovak Citizens Club in Connellsville until recently, and the Monarch Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his devoted wife Mary (Lessick) Shubert; his two daughters; Deborah (Debbie) and her husband Calvin Trader of Connellsville and Kathleen (Kathy) and her husband Doug Collins of Connellsville; four grandchildren, Andrea Collins, Kelly Collins, Paige Trader and Annie Trader, all of Connellsville; three sisters, Josephine Cross of Milesburg, Betty Nagy of Monarch and Geraldine and her husband Jerry Dreese of Bellefonte; three brothers, James Shubert and his wife Esther of Connellsville, Robert Shubert and his wife Barb of Little Summit and George Shubert and his wife Nancy of Monarch and many close nieces and nephews. Mary L. Wicker, Scottdale
Mary Louise Selemon Wicker, 82, of North Hickory Street, Scottdale, died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 15, 2000, in St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born Nov. 27, 1917, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Nemchik Selemon. Mary was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Scottdale. Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted son and daughter-in-law, William O. Wicker and his wife, Karen (Enberg), with whom she resided; her granddaughter, Crystal Wicker; and her brother, John Selemon of Lorain, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Wicker, who died Aug. 8, 1972; two sisters, Ann Harshman and Helen Sefchik; and two brothers, George Selemon and Michael Selemon. John W. Cole, 80, of Connellsville, passed away early Friday, Nov. 10, 2000. He was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Connellsville, a son of the late Henry R. and Mazie Skelton Cole. John was a member of Wooddale Church of the Brethren all his life. He was employed by West Penn Power Co. as a storeroom attendant for 24 years. John was a life member of VFW Post 3368 in Mount Pleasant. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served 14 years in the military and attaining the rank of first lieutenant. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association, DAV life member, and Scottdale Elks 777. John is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Highberger Cole, to whom he was married 56 years; a daughter, Georgann Karantonis and her husband, Karl John, of Naperville, Ill.; a son, John E. Rev. A.W. Evans, Pittsburgh
The Rev. A. W. Evans, 80, of Pittsburgh, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at home. He was born May 22, 1920, in North Braddock, a son of the late John T. and Sarah Ann Birch Evans. He attended the Pittsburgh Episcopal Seminary and was ordained in 1956 at St. Peter's Church, Butler. In 1963, he founded All Souls Episcopal Church, North Versailles. He served as chaplain at the Allegheny County Work House, Blawnox, was a former rector of the Church of Good Shepherd, Hazelwood, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and Korea. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pene Brzozowski; and two brothers, Edward and Robert Evans. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis M. Argall Evans; three children, David W. Evans and his wife, Jackie of Atco, N.J., Sue Evans of Gibsonia and Jane Jensen and her husband, Dean, of Moon Township; a son-in-law, Stan Brzozowski of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren, David Gregory Brzozowski, Lara Seng and her husband, Dan, David Geoffrey Evans, Matt and Scott Jensen; and nieces and nephews. George Ellis Hixson Sr., East Huntingdon Township
George E. "Bud" Hixson Sr., 89, of Scottdale R.D.1, passed away Sunday afternoon, Nov. 12, 2000, in Jo-Ella's Personal Care Home, East Huntingdon Township. George was born on June 14, 1911, in East Huntingdon Township, a son of the late Frank G. and Catherine Hagerman Hixson. George was a devoted father, grandfather and brother to his family and a longtime resident of East Huntingdon Township. Years ago he worked as a truck driver for Monessen Sand & Gravel in Monessen. In 1942, he returned to farming in East Huntingdon Township and was employed at the former Ruth Lumber Company in Scottdale and at U.S. Steel's Christy Park division. He retired from the East Huntingdon Township road department in 1976. George was also a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. George is survived by his loving family: two sons, Louis F. Hixson and wife, Joan, and George E. Hixson and wife, Glendine, all of Scottdale, R.D.1; five daughters, Dorothy J. Malik of Lawton, Okla., Nancy Grimm and husband, C. Frank Grimm and Marlene Garlowich and husband, Edward J. Garlowich, all of Scottdale, R.D.1, Janet Ellenberger of Clearfield and Karen S. Cramer of Scottdale, R.D.1; 27 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vera Ansell and Florence Smouse, both of Scottdale, R.D.1. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth J. Burkhardt Hixson on Aug. 3, 1994; a son, Raymond I. Hixson in 1992; a daughter, Mary Ruth Hixson in 1936; three sisters, Blanche Fretts, Grace Hough and Gladys Kelly Harmon; and four brothers, Gilbert, Vernon, Roy and Boyd Hixson. Marie C. Koury, 81, of Connellsville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000. She was born June 14, 1919, in Connellsville, daughter of late Adam and Anna Phillips Koury. She was a retired Anchor Hocking Glass Corp. employee with 38 years service. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church and also St. George Maronite Catholic Church in Uniontown. In additional to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, George J. Koury Sr. and Michael P. Koury; and three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Cecelia) Faris, Mrs. Michael (Anna Louise) Debnar, Agnes Victoria Koury. She is survived by two sisters, Jessie Y. Koury of Connellsville and Mrs. William (Dolores) Dougherty of Alexandria, Va.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
