Clema McNair Student
Clema ``Bonnie'' McNair Student, 77, of Rosedale, Pa., went to be with her Lord and her beloved Frank on Monday, April 3, 2000.
She was born February 22, 1923, in Confluence, Pa., daughter of Lester H. McNair and Laura Smith McNair.
Mrs. Student was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance.
Her beloved husband, Frank Student, died November 8, 1998. Also deceased are a brother, Charles Norman McNair, and her parents.
Surviving are three children: James E. Bryner of Millerstown, Pa., Frank Phillip Student and Paula L. and husband, John Hunyady, all of Uniontown; and three grandchildren: Craig Phillip Student, Abigail Dawn Student, and Amelia Diane Student.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday until 9:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m., in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, with the Rev. Fr. David Nazimek as celebrant.
Entombment will follow in Sylvan Heights Garden Mausoleum.
Blanche E. Tisot
Blanche E. Nutt Tisot, 83, of Belle Vernon, Pa., died Monday, April 3, 2000, at 10:20 a.m., in the Cherry Tree Nursing Center, Uniontown.
She was born March 20, 1917, in Perryopolis, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Grace Robison Nutt.
Mrs. Tisot was a resident of the Belle Vernon community for the past 54 years.
She was a homemaker and Protestant by faith.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and Betty Tisot Sr., of Donora; a daughter and son-in-law, Gaylene and James Garland Simon of Vanderbilt; a brother, Thurman Nutt of Belle Vernon; five grandchildren, Al Barton and wife, Adele, Charles R. Tisot Jr., Laura Elaine Povirk and husband, Christopher, Jeannine Shaffer and husband, Michael and Kristen Youkin and husband, Thomas; and two great-grandchildren, Lisa Povirk and James Povirk.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Tisot in 1989; five brothers, Clarence, Charles, Norman, Carl and John Nutt; and three sisters, Anna Mae Randall, Agnes Nutt and Irene Layton.
Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, family owned and operated, 626 Broad St., Belle Vernon. Services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., in the funeral home, with the Rev. Hugh Taylor, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Donora, officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
Nora A. Welsh
Nora A. Welsh, 79, of Parma, Ohio, formerly of Connellsville, Pa., died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Parma Care Center, Ohio.
Prior to her retirement, she worked for Anchor Hocking Glass Company, in Connellsville.
She is survived by two sons, Albert Rudolchick and wife, Sally of Connellsville, and Harry Rudolchick of Elyria, Ohio; a daughter, Charlotte Porterfield and husband, Ray of Brooklyn, Ohio; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Buttermore of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; and a brother, Arthur Benson of Connellsville.
Friends will be received in the Paul G. Fink Funeral Home Inc., 418 North Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2000, at 10 a.m.
August M. Bittner Jr.
August "Augie" M. Bittner Jr., 81 of Dunbar Township, Pa., died Tuesday, May 2,
2000, at his residence.
He was a graduate of Connellsville High School, Class of 1936. Prior to his
retirement in 1982, he was employed by Steel Scaffolding Company.
Surviving are his wife of over 50 years, Mary A. (Masterbray) Bittner; his
children, Mrs. Christine Satovich and husband, George of New Salem, Mr. Joseph
Bittner of Dunbar Township, Mrs. Celeste Bittner-Habib and husband, Jeffrey of
Camp Hill, Pa., and Augustine Bittner and wife, Penny of Louisville, Ky.; four
grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Paul G. Fink Funeral Home Inc., 418 North
Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday from noon to
9 p.m., where a Blessing Service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m.
James H. Dray
James H. Dray, 67, of Richeyville, Pa., died Tuesday, May 2, 2000.
He was born July 25, 1932, in Beallsville, Pa., the son of the late Edwin E. and
Dorothy Baker Dray.
James was formerly employed by Bethlehem Mine Corporation, Mine 51, as a
foreman, and he retired from PennDOT.
He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
James was a member of Centerville American Legion, where he was Past Commander,
and he was also a member of the Centerville Sportsman Club. He was a 1950
graduate of Centerville High School.
Surviving are his wife, Hilda (Arias) Dray, whom he married on Nov. 11, 1955;
two sons, James E. Dray of Uniontown, Pa., and Lawrence C. Dray of Stow, Ohio;
two granddaughters, Sarah Dray and Katie Dray; one grandson, Jared A. Dray; and
two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Frances) Cicero of Washington, Pa., and Mrs. H. Newton
(Kathryn) Williams of Falls Church, Va.
Friends will be received in the GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, Route 40, Beallsville, on
Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, May 5, 2000, at 10 a.m.,
the hour of service. Interment will follow in Taylor Cemetery, West Pike Run
Township. Full military rites will be accorded at the graveside by the
Centerville American Legion.
Ruth M. Fike
Ruth Marie Fike, 82, of 600 Bruceton Rd., Markleysburg, Pa., died Monday, May 1,
2000, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 19, 1918, in Fearer, Md., the daughter of the late William
Reese and Emma (Frazee) Reese Frantz.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Claude C. Fike.
Mrs. Fike was a member of the Asher Glade Church of the Brethren and was a
homemaker.
Surviving are three sons, Vernon P. Teets of Barberton, Ohio, W., Wayne Teets of
Akron, Ohio, and Melvin E. Fike of Markleysburg, Pa.; one daughter, Linda E.
Tressler of Confluence, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Shirley Potter of Middletown,
Va., and Lila Griffith of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two brothers, Darwin Reese of
Bruceton Mills, W.Va., and Paul Reese of Friendsville Md.; one half-brother, Lee
Frantz of Friendsville; one sister, Verna Sisler of Friendsville; eight
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the NEWMAN FUNERAL HOME, P.A., Friendsville, Md.,
today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday
at 1 p.m., in the Asher Glade Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Samuel Moon
officiating. Interment will be in Asher Glade Cemetery.
Sol B. Litman Jr.
Sol B. Litman Jr., 79, of Uniontown, Pa., died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at his
home.
He was born March 18, 1921, in Uniontown, Pa., the son of the late Sol B. Litman
Sr., and Gladys Browning Litman.
Sol was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Pipe Fitters Local 354.
He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanne A. Grimm Litman; two sons, Dan and his wife,
Janine of Pittsburgh, and Barry and his wife, Mary Carol of Uniontown; a
daughter, Pamela Ferguson and her husband, Roger of Virginia Beach, Va.; five
grandchildren; and three sisters, Jeanne L. Dick of Uniontown, Mary Ann Thomas
of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Ella K. Miller of Bonita Springs, Fla.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2000, at 11 a.m., in
LaFayette Memorial Park, with the Rev. Thomas R. Finnie officiating. The family
requests, in lieu of flowers, that contributions be given to the Albert Gallatin

Bernard S. Prah Sr., 64, beloved husband of the late Norma; dearest son of
Martin J. Prah and Anna J. (Unetich) Prah; loving father of Bernard S. Prah Jr.,
Robert J. Prah and Catherine Pavosevic; dear brother of Joseph, Edward, Mary
Jane Lucia, Teresa Perrotta, Cecelia Cain, Martin Prah (deceased) and Anna Prah
(deceased); and dearest grandfather of eight; and great-grandfather of one.

Ernest Ropele, 75, of Chicago, Ill., and formerly of Clarksville, Pa., died
Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago.
He is survived by one daughte,r Sandra L. Ropele of Fredericktown, Pa.; three
sisters, Rominia Evans of Fort Pierce, Fla., Margaret Denny of Sharon, Pa., and
Elizabeth Belschner of Penn Hills, Pa.; two brothers, Henry Ropele of Sharon,
Pa., and Aldo Ropele of Clarksville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the

Crystal L. Shaffer
Crystal L. Shaffer, 67, of Uniontown, Pa., died Monday, May 1, 2000, in
Uniontown Hospital.
She was born April 4, 1933, in Uniontown, Pa., a daughter of the late Jesse and
Margaret (Pierce) Franklin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph X.
Shaffer, in 1994; and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are nine children: Ralph E. Shaffer, Harold E. Shaffer, Henry H.
Shaffer, Richard L. Shaffer and Ruth Jordan, all of Uniontown, Pa., John P.
Shaffer of Footedale, Pa., and Bobby E. Shaffer of Hopwood, Pa., Sandra Verbus
of Cardale, Pa., and Evelyn Frazier of Masontown, Pa.; numerous grandchildren
and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ella Mae Fabian and Agnes Casteel, both of
Uniontown, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Albert Smalley
Albert Smalley, 67, of Uniontown, Pa. died suddenly May 1, 2000 in the Uniontown
Hospital.
He was born in Edenborn, Pa., the son of Anna Smalley Shultz.
He was preceded in death by his wife Peral Metts Smalley; stepfather, Joseph
Shultz; and a brother, Franklin Smalley.
He was a Methodist by faith; a member of the AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, North
Union VFW Post 8543, and American Legion Post 4 of Carmichaels.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Albert F. Smalley of
Uniontown, and John M. Smalley of Grays Landing; two stepchildren, Linda Simmons
and Arthur E. Metts of Uniontown; eight grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren.

Viola M. Springer
Viola M. (Fabrycki) Springer, 57, of Uniontown, Pa., died Sunday, April 30,
2000, at Beverly Health Care, in Uniontown, Pa., after a brief, courageous
battle with Cancer.
She was born May 6, 1942, in Martin, Pa., the daughter of the late Frank Sr.,
and Sophie L. (Dudkiewicz) Fabrycki.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank
Fabrycki Jr.; and a sister, Antoinette M. Plourde on March 25, 2000.
She was manager of One Hour Martinizing, in Uniontown, until her illness.
She truly loved her work, and she was also a loving and dedicated wife, mother
and grandmother.
She is survived by her loving husband and childhood sweetheart, Holbert J.
Springer Sr.; her children, Holbert J. Springer Jr., and wife, Rena of
Uniontown, Pa., Holly D'Amico and husband, Matthew of Greensburg, Pa., and her
baby, Jamie Kuritz and husband, Daniel of Uniontown, Pa.; four grandchildren,
Jason, Justin, Alyssa and Matthew; and the following brothers and sisters,

Leona M. Swift, 70, of Republic, Pa., passed away Monday, May 1, 2000, in
Uniontown Hospital.
She was born March 14, 1930, in Rowes Run, Pa., a daughter of the late James and
Margaret Lowther Broadwater.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl S.
Swift Sr., in 1994; sisters, Geraldine Yothers and Nellie Jeffries; and
brothers, James, Harry and Bill Broadwater.
Surviving are a daughter, Mildred Lippincott of Mount Holly, Pa.; sons, Earl
Swift Jr., of Republic, Kenneth Swift of Quakertown, Pa., and George Swift of
Los Angeles, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-
grandchildren; two step great-grandsons; sisters, Betty Christner of Grindstone
R.D., Ethel Cayton of Connellsville, and Mildred Grahek of New Salem.

Mary M. Vargo, 91, of Fayette City, Pa., died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in Mon
Valley Hospital.
She is survived by brothers, Samuel Vargo and John Vargo, both of Fayette City;
and a sister, Ann Cupps of Oakmont, Pa.

Alice E. Weeder
Alice E. Weeder, 85, of Holbrook, Pa. (Greene County) passed away on Monday, May
1, 2000 at the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home in Waynesburg, Pa.
She was born at Prinnytown, W.Va. on August 17, 1914, a daughter of the now late
Edward and Bertha Maude Smith Sapp.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis
"Pappy" Weeder; and a daughter, Bertha Marie Corey.
She was a Protestant by faith and attended several local churches through the
years.
Many years ago, she was employed by the Houze Glass Factory in Point Marion, Pa.
She is survived by a special companion and dear friend, William "Bill" Thomas;
one sister, Genievie O'Brien of Fairchance; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME in Smithfield,
Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday until 11 a.m., when
