Frank S. Swartz Sr.
Frank S. Swartz Sr., 75, of Uniontown, Pa., died Monday, April 19, 1999, in Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born March 15, 1924, in Hays, Pa., son of Andrew Swartz and Mary Mizerak Swartz.
Mr. Swartz was a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church.
He was a United States Army Veteran who served during World War II in the Northern France Campaign, the Campaign of Western Europe, and the German Campaign. He received three Bronze Battle Stars, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, and the Purple Heart.
He was a steelworker employed at U.S. Steel's Homestead Works, and a member of U.S. Steel Local 1397, Fairchance Fire Hall, Uniontown V.F.W. Post 47, and Continental Gun Club.
His wife, Mildred Stefanic Swartz died, April 22, 1988. Also deceased are his parents, brothers, Andrew Jr. and John, and a brother in infancy.
He is survived by four children: Frank S. Swartz Jr. and his wife, Doreen, of Uniontown, Paul Swartz at home, Samuel Swartz and his wife, Jajay, of Madison, Wis., and Donna Jean Lee Tringes at home; four grandchildren: Amanda, Brittany, Samantha, and Skye; brothers and sisters: Mary Hunchuck of Uniontown, Ann Warsack of Carmichaels, Pa., Katherine Elek of Maple Heights, Ohio, Marge McClain of Uniontown, Helen Casteel of LaVale, Md., George Swartz and Joseph Swartz both of Uniontown, and Michael Swartz of Garfield, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC, 139 West Fayette St., Uniontown, Pa., on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday, April 26, until 10:30 a.m. when a Blessing Service will be held.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary (Nativity) R.C. Church.
Interment will follow in Mount Macrina Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by Uniontown V.F.W. Post 47.

Greensboro R.D. 1
Charles A. Barbe Jr.
Charles A. Barbe Jr., 88, of Greensboro R.D. 1, Pa., (Sugar Grove), died at 8:10 p.m., on Monday, April 26, 1999, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was born April 21, 1911, in Mapletown, Pa., a son of the late Charles A. and Eva Hayden Barb Sr.
Mr. Barbe resided in Monongahela Township, Greene County all of his life and worked most of his life as a heavy equipment operator. He retired as a State Inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Mr. Barbe owned and operated Hilltop Driving Range and Recreation Center and Charlie's Recreation Center in Greensboro. After his retirement from PennDOT, he owned and operated Hilltop Trailer Park.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Waynesburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances G. (McClelland) Barbe, whom he marriage on Dec. 17, 1934, and who died on Nov. 8, 1998.
Surviving are three sons, Mervin L. Barbe and his wife, Carol of Frederick, Md., Charles A. Barbe III, and his wife, Maryalice of Rochester, N.Y., and Bruce M. Barbe and his wife, Barbara of Southlake, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Eva Louise) Miller of Chardon, Ohio, and Mrs. Dave (Judy S.) Ross of Greensboro R.D. 1; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, H. Miller Barb and Ewing Barb, both of Mapletown; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine St., Route 88, Carmichaels, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown.

Brownsville
Effie Christopher
Effie Christopher, 95, of Brownsville, Pa,. died Monday, April 26, 1999, in LaFayette Manor, Uniontown.
She was born Sept. 16, 1903, in Luzerne Township, Fayette County, Pa., the daughter of the late Margaret Christopher Taylor.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sylvia Davis; and a nephew, William "Skip" Davis
Surviving are a niece, Jerry Davis, Low Hill, Pa.; a great-niece, Vivian Orlandi, Richeyville, Pa.; great-nephew, Rex Davis, Forest, Va.; great-greatnephews, Terry and Gene Orlandi, and great great-niece, Wendy Mucho, all of Richeyville; and several great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews.
The family will receive friends in the CONFER FUNERAL HOME, 515 Front St., Brownsville, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 29, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow, in the funeral home, with the Rev. John V. King of Brownsville United Methodist Charge. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.

Uniontown
Dorothy Cromwell
Dorothy (Frank) Cromwell, 83, of Uniontown, Pa., died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in Uniontown Hospital.
She was born May 28, 1915, in Indianapolis, Ind., a daughter of the late Charles and Lena Frank.
Also preceding her in death were six brothers and sisters.
Surviving are a son, W. L. "Bill" Cromwell Jr., of Uniontown; a daughter, Ellen Cromwell Cercle and her husband, George of Lake Park, Minn.; four grandchildren, Jefferey B. Cromwell, Melissa Prokop, W. L. "Luke" Cromwell III, and Robert A. Cromwell; and six great-grandchildren, Christopher and Joshua Trainor and Michael Prokop, Sarah and Aaron Cromwell and Harrison Cromwell.
Friends will be received in the JEROME W. SHELL FUNERAL HOME, 164 South Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, Pa., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Donald J. Immel officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.

Brownsville
Joseph Dennis Donkers Sr.
Joseph Dennis Donkers Sr., 56, of Brownsville, Pa, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Yough Lake while fishing.
He was a member of Hiller Volunteer Fire Department serving as treasurer and engineer, Masonic Lodge No. 60, and the "Amish Guys", and a veteran who served in the United States Army.
His father, Joseph E. Donkers, and a grandson, Joseph Thomas Donkers, are deceased.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred Flick Donkers of Brownsville, Pa.; his wife, Linda P. Raven Donkers; two children: Lynn Ann Donkers of Carnegie, Pa., and Joseph Dennis and wife, Regina Donkers Jr., of Merrittstown, Pa.; two grandchildren: Taylor Morgan Donkers and Alexandra Nichole Donkers; and a sister, Shirley Shupe of Brownsville.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park St., Brownsville, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. where Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Thomas N. Logston officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park.
Fire companies visitation will be held today at 7:30 p.m.

Connellsville
J. R. Dunston
J. R. Dunston, 82, of Connellsville, Pa., was called home Tuesday morning, April 27, 1999.
He was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Connellsville, Pa., the son of the late Jacob R. and Edith M. (Smith) Dunston.
J. R. was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, with Company C of the 41st Armored Infantry Regimen, in the 2nd Armored Division, and participated in the invasion of North Africa during operation Tourch. Prior to his retirement in 1973, J. R. worked as a letter carrier for 35 years for the U.S. Postal Service. He also formerly worked for Lenox Crystal in Mount Pleasant, and retired from there.
J. R. was a life member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church on Lincoln Avenue, in Connellsville, and his family had the distinction of being one of the founding members of that church. During his many years of membership, J. R. was very active in the church and held numerous offices. J. R. was also a member of several other organizations including the Connellsville V.F.W., the Disabled American Veterans, the Connellsville Community Ministries, the I.O.O.F. General Worth Lodge 386, and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
J. R. is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Jean Brooks Dunston; his children, Colleen Ray Carroll of Mill Run, Pa., and Richard E. Dunston, of Troy, Ohio, and their spouses, Robert Carroll and Cheri Dunston; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Erin Carroll and Christian and Courtney Dunston; sisters-in-law, Gail Dunston, Audry Brooks, Dolly Ritenour and Catherine Johnson; a brother-in-law, Ralph M. Brooks Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Arthur H. Dunston.
Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Greene St., Connellsville, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a prayer service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., in the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Elmer Reamer officiating. A committal service will follow, in the chapel, at Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, followed by interment there. Military services will be conducted, at the Cemetery, by the Connellsville V.F.W. and the American Legion Honor Guard. The General Worth Lodge 386 will conduct a service on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Route 40 West, Uniontown, PA 15401, or the Albert Gallatin Hospice, 20 Highland Park Dr., Uniontown, PA 15401, in his memory.

Brownsville
Jean E. Fekete
Jean E. (Nicklow) Fekete, 72, of Brownsville, Pa., died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in Uniontown Hospital.
She was born July 26, 1926, in Markleysburg, Pa., the daughter of Eli Nicklow and Rodie Bird.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Alex Fekete Jr., on Aug. 4, 1989; and a sister, Rose Moyer.
She attended Bible Baptist Church.
Surviving are her beloved husband, Alex Fekete Sr.; a son, Samuel Nicklow of Hopwood; a granddaughter, Lisa Amber and a great-grandson, Matthew, both of California, Pa.; two brothers, Artie Bird and Eli Nicklow, both of Uniontown; and two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Wilma) Barhite and Mrs. Floyd (Betty) Anderson, both of Colorado.
Friends will be received in the DOLFI FUNERAL HOME, Uniontown, this evening from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, April 30, from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, with Pastor Gary Herring, Uniontown Bible Baptist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Uniontown
June Spurgeon Fitzgerald
June T. (Tallentire) Spurgeon Fitzgerald, R.N., 79, of Uniontown, Pa., died Sunday, April 25, 1999, in National Health Center, Merritt Island, Fla.
She was born May 23, 1919, in Uniontown, Pa., daughter of Russell Bruce Tallentire and Gladys Crone Tallentire.
Mrs. Fitzgerald was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Green Gardeners Garden Club, and Uniontown Hospital Auxiliary.
June was a graduate of Uniontown High School and the Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing.
Her first husband, Allen C. Spurgeon, her second husband, J. Patterson Fitzgerald, two brothers, Homer Tallentire and Bruce Tallentire, and her parents are deceased.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Anderson and her husband, John, of Washington, W.Va., and Kim Spurgeon of Kirkland, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, Pa., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Visitation continues Friday, April 30, in Asbury United Methodist Church, Beeson Blvd. at Dunbar, Uniontown, Pa., from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James P. Fogg officiating.
Interment will follow.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions may be made to Green Gardeners Memorial Fund, c/o Mrs. Charles Gabler, 321 Saratoga Drive, Uniontown, PA 15401 or to your favorite charity.
