Gilbert A. "Gib" DiMatteo, 78, of Market Street, Scottdale, died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 7, 2001, in his residence. Gib's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, today from 2 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Saturday at noon in the funeral home, followed by his funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale, with the Rev. William P. Donahue as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist RC Parish Cemetery, Scottdale. A parish wake service will be held today in the funeral home.

Mary Shutterly Weimer, 85, of St. Charles, Missouri, formerly of South Broadway, Scottdale, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, in Blanchette Place, St. Charles, Missouri. She was born Sept. 10, 1916, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Louis and Catherine Shutterly. Mary was a member of St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Wentzville, Missouri and a former member of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Lambing No. 314. She was a retired secretary for Geibel High School, Connellsville, with 10 years of service. Previously, she had been employed by the unemployment office of Connellsville for several years. Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted sons: Harry C. Weimer and his wife Dorothy (Overly) of Foristell, Missouri and David A. Weimer and his wife Lois (Hough) of St. Peters, Missouri; six grandchildren, Marcia Weimer, Kristine Cruzen, Michelle Hunn, David, Jeffrey and Kevin Weimer; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph A. Shutterly and his wife Polly of Pittsburgh and a sister, Loretta Norton of Connellsville. In addition, to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Harry T. Weimer who died Feb. 11, 1950 and sister, Louise K. Maurer. Mary's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, today from 2 to 8 p.m. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by her funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist RC Church, Scottdale, with the Rev. Leonard W. Stoviak as celebrant. Graveside services and interment will follow in St. John the Baptist RC Parish Cemetery, Scottdale. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Mary S. Weimer.

Martha Jane Luckey Whoric, 64, of Dickerson Run, died Wednesday night, Nov. 7, 2001, at her home. She was born in Dickerson Run on June 29, 1937, a daughter of Adda C. Luckey and the late John F. Luckey. She was a member of East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Vanderbilt and attended Pennsville Baptist Church. She was a retired employee from Anchor Glass Corp. in South Connellsville with 32 years service. In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, David Whoric; daughters, Debbie and her husband, Dwight Sproul, of Ohiopyle, and Jennifer and her husband, Damon Stash, of Scottdale; a son, Christean Whoric of Uniontown; and grandsons, Josh Sproul, Andy Sproul and Luke Stash. At Martha Jane's request there will be no viewing or visitation. Private service and interment will be in Dickerson Run Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Bixel officiating. Arrangements are under direction of the RALPH E. GALLEY FUNERAL HOME, Dawson.

Michael J. "Hank" Borris Jr., 58, of Connellsville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, in Highlands Hospital. He was born July 29, 1943, in Connellsville, a son of the late Michael J. Borris Sr. and Nina LeGrande Borris. He was a Protestant by faith. Hank was employed by Anchor Hocking Glass Corp., where he was an upkeep man and group leader for 34 years. Hank lived his life to the fullest, loved his family, and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Hank is survived by his loving wife Mary Catherine "Cathy" Morrison Borris, to whom he was married 39 years; a daughter, Michelle "Sheli" Garrity and her husband Shaun of Connellsville; two sons, Gerald A. "Jerry" Borris and Michael J. Borris III, both of Connellsville; two grandsons, Brett B.J. Borris and Tre Garrity, both of Connellsville; two brothers, Joseph F. Borris and Thomas E. Borris, both formerly of Connellsville. In addition to his parents, Hank was predeceased by three sisters, Phyllis Reese, Patricia Gurki and Mary Louise Reese. Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St., West Side, Connellsville, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday until 11 a.m., the hour of service with the Rev. Dr. Marvin A. Watson officiating. Betty Lee James, 72, of Connellsville, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Uniontown Hospital. She was born Dec. 15, 1928, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Lyle Reagan and Rhoda (Russman) Reagan. She was Protestant by faith. Betty was a graduate of Connellsville High School and a loving homemaker for many years. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Smith H. James of Connellsville; a daughter, Joni Piccioni of Connellsville; a son, Gary James and his wife Bobette of Acme; three grandsons, Mike Piccioni of Connellsville and Justin and Jared James of Acme; a sister, Mary Conaway and husband Robert of Connellsville; a brother, Lyle Reagan of Connellsville; a brother-in-law, Cornelius James and wife Barb of Ohio; and two nephews, David Scott Conaway and wife Linda and Jeffrey Conaway and wife Wanda and family. Kenneth E. King II of Connellsville passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, in Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born March 9, 1973, in Uniontown, a son of Patricia King McKenzie of Mount Pleasant and the late Kenneth E. King I. Kenneth was a member of the Greenwood Heights Church of God. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Mylinda "Mindy" Sue Younkin King, to whom he was married eight years; a son, Kenneth W. King, and daughter, Kaitlyn Nicole King, both at home; a brother, Michael McKenzie of Mount Pleasant; and his paternal grandfather, Kenneth A. King of Mount Pleasant. Christopher Lee Zaffina, 8, of Vanderbilt, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, in the Brownsville Hospital. He was born in Mount Pleasant Feb. 8, 1993, a son of Jeffrey and Theresa Franklin Zaffina of Vanderbilt. He was a third-grade student in Perry Elementary School. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Joseph, and a sister, Krystal, both at home; maternal grandparents, Ruth Ann and Albert Swink of Dawson; paternal grandmother, Freda Stillwagon of Scottdale; and a number of aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Kenneth Stillwagon. Friends will be received in the RALPH E. GALLEY FUNERAL HOME, Dawson, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Applebee officiating. Interment in Dickerson Run Cemetery. Verna V. Stickel, 85, of Weirton, W.Va., formerly of South Connellsville, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in the Weirton Medical Center. She was born Sept. 20, 1916, in South Connellsville, a daughter of the late William L. and Anna Kiehl Wagner. She was a former member of the former Trinity Reformed Church in Connellsville. She survived by two sons, Richard W. Stickel and his wife Jeanne of Weirton, W. Va. and Robert A. Stickel and his wife Patricia of Seville, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Cheryl Pitts of Las Vegas, Nev., Lisa Keslar of Champion, Michael Stickel and his wife Nikki and Richard Stickel and his wife Dina, all of Pittsburgh, Mandy Stickel of Tamarac, Fla., Robert Stickel and Halle Johnson, both of Seville, Ohio; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard A. Stickel; three sisters, Gladys Berger, Margaret and Lucille Wagner; and three brothers, Edgar, William and Robert Wagner. Dolores J. May Quairiere, 68, of Dunbar, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at IHS Greensburg. She was born Oct. 2, 1933, in Connellsville, daughter of the late Harold and Arrieta Deiter May. She was a registered nurse, a graduate of West Penn School of Nursing, and in her earlier years, worked as a registered nurse at Connellsville Hospital. She was also a member of the Dunbar Presbyterian Church. Survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Quairiere; children, Richard Renzi and wife, Tammy, of Dunbar, Robert K. Quairiere and wife, Angie, of Uniontown, Robbie Lynn Fuller and husband, Dave, of Dunbar and David Quairiere and wife, Tina, of Connellsville; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Jean and Betty. Gladys M. Provance Kern, 89, of Connellsville, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in Uniontown Hospital. She was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Dunbar, a daughter of the late George H. and Maggie Martin Provance. She was a graduate of the former Dunbar Township High School with the class of 1930. Gladys retired from the former Bell Telephone Co. where she worked as a telephone operator for many years. She was a charter member of Central Fellowship Church in Connellsville and served as a deaconess and Sunday School teacher and in the Women's Missionary Society. Gladys is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Charles D. Kern, who she married on Dec. 25, 1937; and her daughter, Darlene Colvin and her husband Robert of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; her grandchildren, Lori Ann Cronin and her husband James of Hammondsville, Ohio, Kenneth Lee Thompson and his wife Lisa of Florida, Karen Sue Roe of Winter Springs, Fla., and Jeffrey Michael Colvin of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Luella Provance of Connellsville. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five sisters, Lillian, Hazel, and Irene Provance, Carrie Harper and Inez Lewellen and four brothers, Clarence, Harold, the Rev.
