Jeffrey Popson officiating. Interment will be in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.

Rocco A. Chiara, 85, of Connellsville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Highlands Hospital. Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St., West Side, Connellsville, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Rita RC Church, with the Rev. Fr. Frank Lesniowski as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Rita Cemetery. A parish wake service will be held today at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Military services will be accorded at graveside by members of the American Legion Post 301, VFW Post 21 and Trotter American Legion Post 762.

Meriel Renee Bigam Bowser, 66, of Mill Run, is with her Lord. Meriel died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in her home, as a result of a hunter's stray bullet hitting her. Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Additional viewing will be held Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m., the hour of a funeral service, in the Indian Creek Baptist Church, Mill Run, with the Rev. John B. Davis officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery.

Alice V. Fosbrink, 79, of Connellsville, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at her home. She was born April 10, 1922, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late Anna Mae Foster. She is survived by four children, Arthur Fosbrink Jr. and his wife Geraldine of Connellsville, Christine McCarney and her husband Donald of Connellsville, Patricia Boone and her husband Robert of Dawson and Joann Rice and her husband Tom of Mount Pleasant; nine grandchildren, John McCarney, Robert Boone Jr., Tammy Boone, Penny Boone, Kerry Fosbrink and his wife Michele, Daniel Boone, Samantha McCarney, Jason Rice and his wife Lauri and Joey Rice and his wife Erica; six great-grandchildren, Trevor Burkholder, Donald McCarney, Nicholas Boone, Taylor Micklus, Jacob and Elisa Rice; and one half-brother, Frank Foster Jr. of Connellsville. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Arthur Wade Fosbrink in 1989, and her stepfather, Frank Foster, who raised her. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, today from 1 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. 2 to p.m., the hour of services in the funeral home, with the Rev. Evelyn Stillwagon officiating. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.

Anna Amanda (Housel) Dyer, 57, of Youngwood, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born Dec. 21, 1943, in Mill Run, she was a daughter of the late John Harrison and Phoebe Elizabeth (Pirl) Housel. She attended Deliverance Tabernacle Church, New Stanton. Surviving are five daughters, Junita Knopp of Youngwood, Lisa White of Scottdale, Melissa Smith and husband, Ernest, of Youngwood, and twins, Jackie and Faith Dyer; several grandchildren; and a sister, Mary E. (Housel) Thomas of Mount Pleasant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Dyer, in 1998; five half brothers, Kenneth, Ed, Clarence, William and John Housel; an infant brother, Franklin Housel; and a half sister, Susan Huffman. Friends will be received at the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., 730 W. Main St., Mount Pleasant, Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at a time to be announced. James H. Shugarts, 81, formerly of Luthersburg and Connellsville, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at the Laurel Nursing Home in Hamburg, Pa. Born on Nov. 20, 1920, in Troutville, Pa., he was the son of the late Ira W. and Mary E. (Grape) Shugarts. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II. He was married to Irene (Kopnitsky) Shugarts and she preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 2001. He retired in 1982 after 34 years of service as a labor representative with the United Steel Workers. He was a graduate of Sykesville High School in Sykesville and a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Connellsville. She is survived by a daughter, Glenna Heck of Hamburg; one son, James H. Shugarts Jr. of Youngwood; five grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and one sister, Anna G. Rueby of Tucson, Ariz. Visitation was held on Nov. 29, 2001, at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home Inc. in DuBois. Funeral services were held on Nov. 29. Burial followed in Morningside Cemetery. Memorials may be placed with the American Cancer Society.

Ruby Harah Burley, 91, formerly of Somerset, went to be with her Lord, Dec. 14, 2001, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home in Grantsville, Md. Born Sept. 2, 1910, in Somerset, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Flora (Witt) Harah. Also, she was preceded in death by husband, Raymond in 1988; sister, Elizabeth; brothers, Charles, Ray and Merle Harah and stepmother Pearle (Sandles) Harah. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Judith) Puffenberger of Somerset and son, Robert Burley, married to the former Evelyn Walker of Killingworth, Conn.; grandchildren, Robert Puffenberger, Mrs. Kirk (Amy) Cober, Brett Puffenberger, Mrs. John (Kimberly) Johns, Mrs. Brian (Patricia) Ayer, William Burley (and wife Kristina) and Debra Burley. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. She graduated from Connellsville in 1928 and Indiana University of Pa. in 1930. She was a retired school teacher from the Rockwood School District. She also taught in the Southampton School in Somerset County and in Londonberry Township in Bedford County. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Rockwood, the North American Benefit Association, AARP, the Retired Teachers Association and the Somerset County Retired Teachers Association. Friends were received the MILLER FUNERAL HOME in Rockwood. A service was held today at Christ United Methodist Church in Rockwood with Pastor Randall Bain officiating. Interment was in Rockwood I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church at 621 Broadway St., Rockwood, Pa. 15557.

Tomas S. Long, 3, of Belle Vernon, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in the Monongahela Valley Hospital, Washington County. He was born in Mount Pleasant, March 7, 1998, a son of Thomas G. Long of Connellsville and Margie Povlik of Belle Vernon. Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers, Jason and Andrew; and a sister, Jenna; his maternal grandmother, Mary Wimer of Normalville and her companion, Lloyd Lilly; paternal grandmother, Georgia Long of Connellsville and her companion, Kenneth Whipkey, of Connellsville; paternal grandfather, Thomas Long of Connellsville and his companion, Linda Panullo; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Kenneth E. Clark. Friends will be received in the RALPH E. GALLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dawson, today, from 2 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday until 11 a.m., the hour of the service at the funeral home. Officiating minister is Dr. Marvin C. Watson. Interment will follow in Cochran Cemetery, Dawson.

Richard Louis Nicholson, 61, of Normalville, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001. He was born June 27, 1940, in Connellsville, a son of Hazel Marietta Nicholson of Normalville, and the late Weldon Nicholson. Richard was a Protestant by faith. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Shirley Fay Prinkey Nicholson, to whom he was married 40 years; two sons, Vernon R. Nicholson and his companion, Crystal, of Normalville and Rocky A. Nicholson of Connellsville; the following grandchildren, Stacy, Randi and Becky; a brother, Danny Nicholson; a sister, Diana Firestone and her husband, Neil, all of Normalville; two nieces, Joyce and Jamie; and three nephews, Danny Jr., Bob and Jason; and Richard's mother-in-law, Dolly Prinkey of Normalville.
