Jeff Door
Jeff Door passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sherri Door. Jeff was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Mich., on March 25, 1942. Jeff and Sheri moved to Winslow in September 1971, where they opened a furniture store downtown and in February became the local Sears Catalog Agency. In 1981, they moved to Second St. and became Western Auto. Jeff loved NASCAR racing, Diamondbacks, Cardinals, Lions and Wildcats. He also loved working in his yard and tending to his dogs. Jeff was also an accomplished organist and loved to sing and praise the Lord. He was a long-time member of the local Elks Lodge.
Other survivors include his son, Dave and Tracy Herms of Winslow; daughter, Debbie and Pete Champnoise of Michigan; son, Jeff Door III of Phoenix; daughter, Jayne and Tim Hooper of Michigan; and 8 grandchildren: Tresa and Jesse Champnoise, Kristin and Tony Herms, Johnny and Daphany Door, and Michael and David Hooper; and one great-grandson, Hunter Champnoise; as well as sisters, Dolores Wood and Susie of Michigan; brother, Dick Westlake of Texas; sister, Yvonne Piacenti of California; also his loyal employees, Ken TeWinkle, Debbie Rogers, Ozzie Davis, Karri Matlow and Jack Shoupe.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004 at the First Baptist Church, 411 N. Warren, Winslow, Pastor David Daffern officiating. Viewing was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at Greer s Mortuary Chapel.

Allen Begay
Graveside Services for Allen Begay, 68, were held Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 at the Hardrock Cemetery, Hardrock.
Allen Begay passed away Jan. 11, 2004 at the Winslow Campus of Care. He was born on March 8, 1935 in Hardrock to parents Tse Cody and Annette Begay. During his working years, he was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad until his retirement in 1981.
He is survived by wife, Lorraine Vaughn Begay; sons, Sevier Begay of Winslow, Gary Begay of Window Rock, Larry Begay of Winslow, Loren Begay of Leupp, Nathaniel Begay of Winslow, Garrikson Begay of Phoenix; daughters, Marlinda Huma of Polacca; Sandra Begay of Winslow; brother, Russell Begay of Pinon.
Arrangements were under the care of Greer s Mortuary of Winslow.

Arthur C. Brown
Holy Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be recited and celebrated for Arthur C. Brown on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph s Catholic Church, located at 220 W. Second St., Winslow with Father Dan Hussey celebrant. Interment will be at Desert View Cemetery.
Arthur C. Brown passed away at Winslow Campus of Care on Jan. 9, 2004. He was 94 years of age and was attended by family and caregivers. Arthur was born on Jan 12, 1909 in the upper Greaswood area. After attending the Ft. Wingate Indian School, he married Nora Dene Yazzie at Keams Canyon in 1942. Arthur, shortly thereafter, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a Code Talker, and served in the Pacific Theater until the end of World War II. He was later awarded the Silver Code Talkers medal by an Act of Congress of the United States of America.
Throughout his life, Arthur was best known as a carpenter in the White Cone area. Often he gave so much to others, asking little or nothing in return. It was Arthur s way of being, which he passed on to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Nora, of White Cone; children, Maryann Dickson of Fruitland, Albert C. Brown of Albuquerque, Marie of Albuquerque, Arthur C. Brown, Jr. of Phoenix, Susie Reynolds of Phoenix, Bessie Chare of Idaho, Paul C. Brown of Holbrook, Felix C. Brown of White Cone, Michael C. Brown of White Cone; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, Alfred and Alex Tosie Brown.
We will miss you, Chee! Our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and elder. Semper-Fi - Marine.

Mary Marquez
Oct. 12, 1929 - Dec. 27, 2003
Mary Guerrero Marquez, 74, of Modesto died of Parkinson s Disease Saturday at Hy-Lond Convalescent Hospital.
Mrs. Marquez was a native of Arizona, lived in Modesto four years and previously lived in San Leandro 44 years. She was an electronic production assembler.
She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and the Teamsters union Local 78 for 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond P. Marquez of Modesto; children, Ronald R. Marquez Sr. of Modesto, Janeith Darlene Marquez of Hayward, Carol Jean Gonzales of Manteca, Barbara Marcum of Fremont and Mary Louise Sanchez of Patterson; brother, Roy Guerrero of Escondido; sister, Julia Passmore of Pittsburg; and 10 great -grandchildren.
The rosary was recited Monday, Jan. 5 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. A Mass was held Tuesday at the church. Private cremation.

Michael T. Scaramuzzo
Memorial services for Michael T. Scaramuzzo, 21, were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at Christ s Church of Flagstaff, 3475 E. Soliere Ave., Flagstaff, Pastor Nick Desmond officiating.
Michael Scaramuzzo passed away on Jan. 10, 2004 in Winslow. He was born on Dec. 5, 1982 to Brian L. and Florentina Scaramuzzo in Tucson. Michael attended Coconino High School. He was a sweet, kind, loving and generous person, always thinking of others first.
He is survived by his father, Brian Scaramuzzo of Winslow; mother, Florentina Kloehn of Mississippi; daughter, Victoria Scaramuzzo of Mississippi; son, Vance Scaramuzzo of Mississippi; and sister, Michelle Scaramuzzo of Winslow.
Arrangements were under the care of Greer s Mortuary of Winslow.

Arthur Charlie Yazzie
Funeral services for Arthur C. Yazzie, 82, of Birdsprings, were held on Friday, Jan. 16, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Maranatha Assembly of God located on the corner of Fleming and Alfred, Winslow, with Pastor Henry Chase officiating. Interment was at Desert View Cemetery.
Arthur C. Yazzie was born on July 2, 1921 in Dilkon to parents Charlie and Ella Hoskie Yazzie. He passed into eternal life on Jan. 8, 2004 at the V.A. Medical Center in Prescott. Arthur was a Veteran of Foreign Wars, serving his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as part of Troop E, 85th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. His decorations and citations include European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with 3 Battle Star Combat Infantry Badge and Good Conduct Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Lee (Curley) Yazzie of Birdsprings; son, Samuel Yazzie of Tuba City; daughter, Irene Wilson of Birdsprings; brother, Jimmy Yazzie of Dilkon; and sister, Stella Nelson of Dilkon.
Arrangements were under the care of Greer s Mortuary of Winslow.

James T. Yazzie
Funeral services for James T. Yazzie, 64, were held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 at the Leupp Presbyterian Church in Leupp. Interment was at the Old Leupp Presbyterian Cemetery.
James T. Yazzie was born on Oct. 8, 1939 in Leupp to parents Tsinijinnie Yazzie and Kathrine Canyon. He passed away at the Toyei Industry Group Home in Toyei, near Ganado, on Jan. 26, 2004.
He made Canyon Diablo in the Leupp area his home. In his childhood, he attended an eight-year educational program at Inner Mountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah. Disabled all his life, he made the best of things by using his hands and personality to bring joy to himself and others.
His hobbies included modeling clay, journaling, drawing, repairing bicycles and other things. He was a participant in the Special Olympics track and field. He loved to spend time with relatives, friends and neighbors; making them laugh with the funny things he would say. His favorite family outing was a fishing trip to the fish farm in Oak Creek Canyon.
He is survived by his siblings: Betty Smith, Flora Smith, Patricia Pete, Lorraine Bia, Henry T. Yazzie and Priscilla Begay; and many, many nephews and nieces.
James was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Evelyn Yazzie, Beatrice Kirk, Pete Yazzie and Justin Dick Yazzie, who died in WWII.
Arrangements were under the care of Greer s Mortuary of Winslow.

Bonnie K. Lowe
Services for Bonnie K. Lowe, 85, of Winslow, will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Greer s Mortuary chapel located at 316 W. Second St.
Bonnie was born on February 15, 1918 in Palestine, Texas to John N. and Jessie Chason Killion. At the age of 5, the family moved to Portalles, NM, where Bonnie attended grade school at Rogers and High School in Portalles, NM. She moved to Superior in 1935 and moved to Winslow on February 19, 1952. Bonnie opened Winslow s first humane society July 1, 1967 and had been really devoted to animals all of her Iife. She spent 2 decades at the animal shelter until her retirement.
Her survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Bob) Stahl of Tucson, Linda (Ronald) LeBlanc of Pocatello, Idaho; one brother, W.M. Killion of Alta Loma, California; two sisters, Charm Kwis of Prescott, AZ and Agnes Shaw of Livermore, CA; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jay B. Lowe, her parents, one sister and ve brothers.
Arrangements under the care of Greer s Mortuary of Winslow.
